I have a 2016 wrangler for my rural post office route. 236,000+ miles on engine with no problems 👍 Had transmission rebuilt at 200,000. Never skimp on oil changes. Full synthetic. Still LOVE my Jeep!!
The 3.6L Pentastar is a great engine! I love my 2012 Wrangler, it's just a little expensive to work on. You need $50 worth of intake gaskets to replace the spark plugs, because the driver's side bank is hidden under the intake. The automatic transmission in my 2012 was outsourced to Mercedes (I don't know if they still do), very smooth shifts and the tap shift is great! I daily drive mine and it's worth every penny!
16 MPG highway with the auto trans was typical. Less when in FWD of course. The Aisin-Warner four speed overdrive auto trans was almost bullet proof as well.
the 4.0 engine was a design from American Motors ( Rambler!) & was a very reliable & long lasting one. I had a 4.0/258 ci. in a 72 Gremlin & it would not quit running!
The 4.0 straight 6 gave me 23 mpg on my 90 Cherokee, driving through the Adirondacks of NY, and Green Mountains of Vermont. Wasn’t the gas’s hog you claim them to be!
I’ve got 2009 with the 3.8 minivan motor, just reached 180k Miles and it’s never left me stranded, never been rebuilt or swapped, oil change under every 5k and that thing has been on some joy rides, such a fun and reliable car to drive.
That Chrysler warranty was fantastic. I’ve heard multiple people who made out big time on that warranty. I had a 17 JK and rear brakes locked up on it at like 35,000, rear axle seals started leaking at 42,000 miles it was a lease. Gave it back, what a piece of junk. My 89 wrangler was more dependable.
This!! My 2012 heads were warped at 300miles they replaced one of them. The water pump went out right after. The heater core was full of casting sad. Radiator went out. Three gears went out and they replaced those. And now 80k miles it’s knocking like crazy again.
What kind of Kmart special axle seals are they putting on these rolling piles of junk? How about buying a car that doesn't need a damn warranty? I bought a Silverado in 2003. I drove that thing hard enough to wear out several F-150's and Dodge Rams. In my old age I am slightly ashamed at how badly I treated that truck. Yet, it's been only tires, brakes, oil, oil pressure sensor at 150,000 miles and the rear axle seals at 160,000 miles. That's it. Seeing as how QC has fallen off a cliff, I guess I'll be driving my Silverado until I cross over the Jordan.
@@The_John_Galt I do drive hard but the same with our 13, water pump, axel seal, rear brake were toast and heater core with radiator replacement " casting sand" issue. Now lifters are ticking at 120k.
@@thefontzchannel that is brutal man. Mine tapped for the first 5 seconds on startup it was almost like every time you started it you were praying the oil made it to the top end.
My dad has a 16 Sahara. Only reason he has an auto is so that my mom could drive it in case her Kia breaks down (it's a Kia, what do you expect?). Rides well, and he has had one computer related issue he fixed himself while approaching 70k miles. And before that he had an 08 Sport model that he traded in at 120k miles with no issues but routine maintenance.
I have a 2011 with 130k miles and the transmission is being rebuilt. Didn’t offer lifetime then. When I bought our 2014 rubicon I did buy the lifetime warranty and it is very worth it. Love my Jeeps
Jeep rocks! Still driving my '97 Jeep GC that I bought in 2002. Straight six and runs as good as it did the day I bought it. I may ask to be buried in it. LOL
91 Wrangler here four-banger. 😜 Motor rebuilt about 300,000 mi ago. Bored out 30k over. I swap out the oil every 3,000 religiously. Valvoline conventional. Granted I replaced a lot of parts under the rebuild. Not one problem . And I never opened up the rear or the tranny . Just swapped out fluids😜✌️
I've had a YJ, TJ and now the JK. The JK is the first one that my wife didn't totally hate. Still need to watch the frame in the rust-belt. But the JK floors haven't rotted out yet like the other 2. Getting close to 100k miles. I still love it. 2014 Rubi
Truth. Not sure why it took Jeep so long to realize it, BUT people really just like the outside look of a Jeep. Most people still want the inside feel/look of a car/suv.
Scotty you quoted "he hasn't had a lick of problems with it" well .. axle seal leak. Brake caliper failed, heated seat failed. Sounds like a few licks to me.
200,000 miles on my 2012 Chrysler T/C van which was a good vehicle. I had the lifetime warranty and probably had $8,000-9,000 in repairs on warranty. Chrysler sold the warranty to a 3rd party and it was getting harder to get repairs approved. They would say “ that’s normal wear, can’t repair it twice under warranty”. I switched dealers and that helped some with the warranty issues. That was a great program while it lasted.
As Scotty said the older technology is simple and lasts so long. Just like manual transmissions. And the older Jeeps, too. Scotty said some people love them with manual transmission.
With the JK series Wrangler, 2012 or newer, they're good vehicles. I've never met a terrain that stopped me. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. BUT! Get that extended warranty. . . Speaking from experience!
I had a 1998 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo - it got 20 mpg when it had 225K it had a 4.0 inline straight six It was a great engine That’s why they don’t make it anymore.
@@keithball6480 anything that is good they will stop making Ford mustang 289 engine Bullet proof Poof no more 4.0 another bullet proof engine Poof No more Chevy 4.2 inline six vortex bullet proof Poof No more
got a 2017 Sahara 75th edition two door, mainly for winter but it is great all year round, never open the freedom panels because they leak when I do. so far I like it.
Brand new 300 miles the head was knocking and warped, they replaced it and the same time the water pump went out, casting sand inside the engine. Soon after the heater stopped working fasting sand was inside the heater core…. Then three gears in the transmission went out. 50k miles the radiator went out. Now after 80k miles the valves are knocking like an 80s diesel. Debating what to do next. That’s just some of the stuff that’s went wrong.
We have that unlimited warranty on our 2013 Chrysler minivan. Last year, with 120k+ miles, both A/C evaporators went out. That repair alone paid for the warranty. We have saved thousands in repairs. Notice that they don't offer that warranty anymore.
I had a 2014 Rubicon. It rode hard but I could drive it through 2 ft of unplowed snow in upstate New York. And in the Catshill mountains I drove some trails and it would just slide over rocks and it wasn’t raised at all. Great vehicle but the infotainment system screen crapped out was replaced under warranty.
Take care of it. Mine has casting sand issues. Heads replaced, radiator, heater core, three gears in transmission, water pump. Now at 80k miles it’s knocking again
I had an old CJ7 4 cylinder with a manual transmission. That thing was slow and rough riding but off-road, I swear that thing could have climbed a tree.
Good to see some positives on the channel for Jeeps. I own a 2003 TJ Rubicon with the 4.0L and a 2016 Rubicon Unlimited Hardrock with the 3.6L both with manual transmissions. Overall, both are great vehicles and easy to maintain and service.
I had a 2016 wrangler with upgraded ko2 tires, fox shocks etc. I sold it mostly because the transmission shifter would often vibrate out of gear into neutral, on the highway it would vibrate so bad I had to hold it so it wouldn't pop out of gear. It was common with standard transmissions, too bad, I kind of liked it, except for that.
Makes me miss my 95 rio grande. Took that thing off-roading a bunch. Transmission failed 3 times but I got up to 200k miles and drove it from TN to CA 6 times in one summer. Worst problem I had was the steering column. Now I drive a H3 hummer lol
I also have a 2015 2dr. I loved hearing him say that and I can attest to the fact that I've had very few issues and I just love the thing. Im just at 125,000 miles.
Outside of A/C and cruise the only option I would build into a new car would be constant camera recording from the front, interior, rear, and if possible surround, recording the instant that the engine is engaged and doesn't stop recording until functional shutdown. I wonder if M-B or BMW or Audi offer any such perks? When the police can make a quad out of you and get away scot-free I'm thinking it's time to employ such technology just for your own safety not only physically but legally. Some world we've created. Merry Christmas!
I work at a Jeep dealer and what I learned is any Jeep newer than 2006 are junk. The better jeep to buy that has front and rear solid axle and 4 doors is any Jeep zj, 4.0 Jeep wj and any Jeep xj. The 2 door jeeps to buy is Jeep Tj, Tj, and xj
Damn phone I drive a 97 Cherokee 4.0 over a quarter of a million miles never been down I keep the oil changed but starts and goes every day . . Not much rust either for an Indiana car everything works on it I've had a few over the years . . And will look for another one god forbid this one goes bad
Love you Scotty I've had three Jeeps 2000 2002 wranglers. 4.0 straight 6s 5 speeds. I have aJeep gladiator 2022 now call Willy's edition I paid 46 Grand lots of options strong 290 horsepower pentastar V6. 8 speed transmission Dana 44s front and back. Straight axles in the front and back which is unusual nowadays. I'm retired not expired. And I enjoy it very much. I've had luxury trucks Big Horn edition. But I live in Kentucky now from Illinois and I don't regret either the Jeep or the move thanks for your input, ♥️🤍💙🤠😳
I’ve had a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ with the 4.0 l6, but unfortunately the engine cut its life short because the engine blew it’s guts out. I’ve took care of the Jeep very well but the previous owners never did and they really beat the heck out of it. Just days before the engine blew up I heard a rattling noise from the engine every time I rev it I really couldn’t figure it out what’s wrong with it. Until I found out after that I had a rod knock that it the piston rod shot right the oil pan and completely destroyed my engine. I really love Jeep’s but 90s and early 2000s are my favorite when Daimler Chrysler was around. I’ll get another Jeep someday but only as a weekend off road Toy instead of daily driving. Because basically I turn my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee into endless money pit for 3 years.
Bought my 2 door 2012 jeep 6sp manual brand new. It's been dead reliable. Never had to do anything other than a few batteries and camshaft position sensors and fluid changes over the years. Love my jeep jk
Way back when I was in high school a guy I knew had either a 1970 or 71 Jeep with the straight 6 and manual transmission. That thing was indestructible. It was so overbuilt you could beat it to death and it didn't phase it. But now I wouldn't touch a Jeep especially after the merger with Fiat.
I owned a 97 XJ with 3"Lift and 32" tires for 17 years. It got a whopping 12.5 avg mpg. Straight 6 cylinder. But, it would take you anywhere, in any conditions AND BRING YOU BACK!
Am I the only one that is still running around with a 2003 Jeep Liberty with a V6 engine and 250k miles on it? What do you think of these 03 Liberties, Scotty?
@@bobl8687 got a YJ in Vermont. Not a speck of rust. In the fall .I touch up the undercoating. Then shoot the bottom down with used motor oil three times during the winter.
I had a 94 wrangle it had 200,000 still ran strong,I just got rid of my 2006 Jeep Patriot a year ago it had 160000 on it. I can honestly say that I will definitely own a Jeep again.
i have a 99 xj with amc 4.0l and AW4 trans. i get 18mpg highway and can tow cars from texas to wisconsin the last real cj jeep was produced in 04 everything after that is counterfeit if there is a MAF its not a jeep
Surprised He has not replaced the "Left Cylinder Head" "Cams & Lifters" both sides A Radiator the "Front Ball Joints" both sides and all the "Door Seals" for water leaks
I don't know why Toyota won't sell a modern day 4 door FJ40. Very few people were buying the $100,000 Landcruisers. But sell a super stripped Landcruiser with a DIESEL for 4Runner money... heck I'd buy one.
Scotty Here's the question If all manufacturers actually built their cars well, how much would it really cost!? You wouldn't puss people off, you'd have a good name and happy customers!
I have 97 wrangler 4.0 5 speed with 297,000 miles and it gets right at 20mpg on the high way and that’s not driving Ms daisy Drivin even though it’s always drivin Ms daisy drivin.. It has original everything and I would hop in it now and take it from Va to Cali worry free
Had a deer accident with my car last night. A chevy cruze and I hope to get a new 2022 or 2023 jeep wrangler sport asap. I have 3 people to carry including myself. You think 2016 is the last year to consider one? I will buy this week probably.
