I ran a 160 amp AHP stick welder off a 4000 watt Champion generator. Ran great and got me by. That said, you did better with your purchase because having your welder/generator will force you to crank your engine up more often and keep your carburetor from gumming up. Also, run Valero Super Unleaded when possible and always run stabilizer in your fuel to keep things working good. I now have a Miller Trailblazer 325 with EFI. It's in a whole different class but I rarely run more than 145 amps. There are occasions when I go up to 220 amps but I'm building some serious implements and machinery. This was a probably the best bang for your buck and is certainly more mobile than mine. I did keep my 4,000 watt champion for that reason. Very nice machine. Congrats. I used the same tactic on my wife. "Honey. We need a generator to keep our babies cool in the summer and warm in the winter if we lose power". When it was delivered, it just happen to have 50 foot welding leads. LOL!

Way to go! It's like when I WAS married, I bought a full time 4wd Blazer (back in the 80's) and told my then wife it had a lot of space in the back for shopping. It soon became her full time shopping vehicle. I watched another You Tuber with a welding channel, say that laying a weld is like writing script letter E's.

I can justify to my wife buying anything as long as I use it for home improvements. Oh, you're right, the driveway and house do need to be cleaned. Boom, 3500 psi Honda powered pressure washer with the high end Italian made solid brass pump. So you want to scrape the popcorn ceilings and paint do you? Boom, new Graco sprayer. Repaint the back deck you say. I might need a couple of new drills because, well my other ones are old and some deck screws need to be replaced. I learned a long time ago that when your wife comes home with a bunch of Macy's bags, just keep your mouth shut and go to the hardware store and buy some tools to work on the castle.

This is the first time that I have commented on your channel, one I would advise you on is to put a base board under your fencing so that the damp does not rise up to the the fence to make it rot quickly this is how use to construct fencing in the UK, so sit your nice fence onto the base board in between your posts hope this is of any use. Great channel 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻

11,000 watts will be enough to run most of your house (if not all) Connect it to your electrical panel with a 50 amp cord, #6 conductors, and it will be able to run your AC, refrigerators and at least most of your other electric needs. You MAY have to cycle off your AC to run things like a clothes dryer or electric water heater. I use a 10,000 watt generator to power my "whole house" in Florida for hurricanes. Works great! If we have to run the clothes dryer or the water heater (50 gal.) I just turn off the AC, heat the water, then turn off the water heater and turn the AC back on. Once the water is heated up, it is good for all day. We have used it for up to 4 days at a time.
@murphymmc
@murphymmc 4 года назад
Yeah, don't mention anything about throwing the main switch on your panel or better yet, a disconnect so you don't backfeed the line and fry some line worker trying to restore your power. Do not assume that anyone buying a generator will know anything.
@rt198ptom8
@rt198ptom8 4 года назад
I looked at the specs. The welder is a 4000-watt generator not 11000 watts. From the web page " Generator produces 4,500 Watt surge power; 4,000 Watts continuous power". The welder has one 240V plug and it is only 20 amps so hooking it to the main panel would be limited to 4800 watts (actually 4000 watts according to the specs). It has four 20 amp 120V plugs (9600 watts total but the generator is limited to 4000 watts). Also noticed in the review section the welder runs at full throttle all the time. Most decent generators will vary throttle with the load which makes things quieter and more fuel-efficient. Definitely a compromise but in the end will work with some extension cords to keep the refrigerator, etc running. Good luck with the AC, hot water heater, etc.

I always wanted to learn but have had a pacemaker since i was 15 (well, not the same one - on my 5th one now). The spike in EM energy that welders causes can pause a pacer in your heart so... I’m not able to learn. Sucks but, it is what is it. Still enjoying my Finish Carpentry T-Shirt!

Rich...Hypothetical Apocalyptic became Realistic last year during a 105 F Heat Wave when an Arsonist set Fire to the Countryside. That incident Destroyed 3 Miles of Power Poles. We were without Power for two weeks waiting for Repairs. You couldn't Beg, Borrow or Steal a Generator anywhere! We did manage to score the last one in the area at Sears. With it we could Run the Lights, Ceiling Fans, Television, Charge Cell Phones & Laptops and two Side-by-Side Refrigerators and the 220 Volt Well Pump for Water. Its nice to be able to Flush the Toilets and have Hot Water for Bathing!! 8K isn't enough to Run the Whole House Air Conditioner or the Dryer. Tip: Turn the Fuel Valve OFF while Idling and let the Carburetor Run Out of Gas when not in use and use some Fuel Stabilizer in the Tank when Storing. Today's Gasoline turns to Gum when Sitting for a few weeks!!! We used the Generator about 8 times last year in Rolling Blackouts or when the Wind Blows Hard...Power Company Turns the Juice Off in Fear of Possible Wind Caused Fires. You will need to Learn how to Connect the Gen to your Electrical Panel Safely or Install a Special Switch. Lastly...I would Recommend Purchasing a Small 2.2K (1.8K) Generator too. They Run 8 Hours on a Gallon of Gas and are Very Quiet and you would be surprised how many Devices it will Run before being Overloaded!!!! That Big Generator will Gobble Gasoline which might be in Short Supply in an Emergency!!!!!

I think can make 2 male plugs. Plug one in to generator and plug other into one outlet that it tied to all of the lights in house. It will operate all lights i think and fridge but not ac as it draws more amps and may be on separate breaker. An electrician may know more about this. But I did it when a hurricane came and one cord ran all the lights in the house pretty much. So you you guys know incase you need the info

Make sure you use some prep and etch on that oil field pipe. Scrub and wash it off after 24 hrs. Take the time to prime it first before painting it with restoelum rusty primer. If not your paint will peel off after a couple months. I gave my neighbor the same advice but ignored me , now his fence is peeling like crazy even though he used good restloeum rusty gloss paint. He regretted instantly. It takes more time but we’ll work the extra elbow grease. My pipe fence still looks great after several years.

You need a transfer switch on your breaker panel so that you can connect up to 6 circuits from your house to the generator. That way, you don't need to use extension cords connected to the generator when power goes out. You flip a switch on your breaker panel, connect the generator to the transfer switch, and you then have half of your house powered, as though the power is still live.

so to figure out how much watts you need for a generator take the voltage of the hobart handler 140 welder (115volts) and times it by the amps drawn (20amps) and thats how much watts it draws.(2300watts) or for a stickmate 160I its 240volts at 27.8amps is 6672 watts continuous but that welder can run on 120volts at 20.7amps=2484 watts. the stickmate is easier for new people but the handler 140 is cleaner and still very easy to use.

Fit up looks awesome it's a fence those gaps give you a place to stick that rod , now as your gate goes think about a rolling gate you're on a little bit of a slope you don't want to swinging gate! You need a rolling gates its little bit of work to fabricate the roller assembly and obviously you need to pass the gate length across the fence another project for your welder seems like it would work great at your location the rolling gate great content video too.... Just from experience. A face shield is a must with cut off wheels and wire wheels. It will save a trip to the er to have the brushes removed from your face or a broken disk removed if it should break and shatter. 4” disks make a bloody mess and 7” disks cause catastrophic losses. Great job on the fence and working hard .
