For those that want to do this project I followed these directions to the letter and would like to offer this advice...If you dig the pit only a couple of feet deep you will save on water and when you throw the hub assembly in you can forego the purchase of a sump pump.

Design is superb but, I would pin the work stop at 90° for square cutting, and have it adjustable for angle cuts. Say 15° to 45° in 15° increments. Stamp each position, drill and have removable pin for anchoring work stop at each position.

He never says its a cost saving thing or that its even worth doing he just tells a story of creativity building it but also in the way he telks the story with the sounds of the build and way he films each process of his creation is so creative in its self.

The idea of a power hacksaw isn't so much speed as accuracy, and a blade will outlast a lot of cutting discs. The only change I'd make is to have a metal bracket welded on the table aimed up in line with the toggle switch. Then rotate the toggle switch to push down to turn on. Have the metal bracket just long enough that when the reciprocating saw cuts through the material, the bracket engages the toggle switch and turns off the saw. Otherwise, cool useful project. Kudos. Just ignore the naysayers in the chat. They are all upset they didn't think of this.

Lots of people are saying you could just buy a chop saw. But I've worked with modern machines and let me tell you they don't hold up like the old ones do. You buy a new saw it breaks down and you replace it. You get an old one and refurbish it or build one out of solid steel like that one and you can count on it when you need it. Also no proprietary parts to get gouged on.

Good work. You are getting a lot of negative comments below, most of them undeserved. Yes, you could have made this using fewer components and different mechanisms, but you have made a viable power hacksaw, that may be overbuilt? You showed us how a Scotch yoke works, how to use otherwise unusable " junk", and you made it yourself using your own time doing what you wanted to do. My concerns are not with the construction. You may want to slow the blade down to 90 strokes or so a minute for steel, and you probably should beef up your vise, something you already know. Regardless of how you made this machine, it is a heavy duty power hacksaw any shop would want at a very low cost. Incidentally, power hacksaws cut straighter than band saws. They are especially good at sawing very thin slices off accurately. Thanks for posting this video and you have a new subscriber. Jerry
