Dumb man with zero skills in electricity takes apart and "fixes" a camera. Let's try to fix the Sony X3000 focus. It went out of focus years ago, and apparently it's easy to fix. But likely not for me. How will this end?

Sony x3000 amzn.to/2T3dUnn Still $400 lol. Buy through my affiliate link and the Sony ZV1 will have a wider than 24mm screen, cause surely Sony wouldn't market another vlogging camera with 24mm on the wide end. I hope they didn't have a boardroom meeting about it.

I do repair cameras from the 60s and older. As soon as I see a cable, I immediatly close the camera again.

I started out with the Sony DSC F828. It burned out in a little over a year. I replaced it with a Sony a200. It also tore up in about a year. I switched brands to a Canon 60D, it held up and I sold it to upgrade to the 7D, it also held up to very heavy use, I went to the 6D and the 5DMIII, 4 or 5 years later, they're still working hard. Canon has its flaws and all that, but they've been able to keep up with my work load. (For weddings, not for vlogging or anything)

You probably do not drink...but I would love to see you take a shot every single time you realized you made a small mistake. That is usually how I fix things and I end up having to buy another one the next day. I do drunk fixing and hungover replacing. Oh and let's not forget the endless amount of specialized tools I have purchased to just fix the one thing I did not.

I broke the USB port off my 5dm3, and I was like "oh I'll just open it up and solder it back on." As soon as I took the back of the camera off, I ripped the microscopic ribbon cable on the motherboard in half and completely bricked what was otherwise a perfectly functional camera.

God, you're a genius! That was the best teardown video ever. I humbly bow to your media-creation abilities. If you really want to get the Sony working, you need only refer to my simple checklist: 1. Follow one of the teardown videos which explains how to take it apart properly without breaking anything. 2. Struggle like a nincompoop with ten thumbs until... 3. Success! 4. Or... 5. Abject defeat and buy a new one. But, hey, you tried!

You cannot adjust the focus by twisting the lens. The whole lens unit needs replacing. I've done it recently. I'll make a tutorial video. I guess you have pressed the pcb board back to the lens assembly and it's a matter of a few shakes until it falls out again. Like sitting on a butt shaped chair during an earth quake.

love my fdr x3000.. been using the3m for years.. antigropro.. and I to agree the focus is always sharp on the background. its sad. but I still don't plan on switching over. I have a bunch of gopro 8s and x3000 at work and I always choose the Sonys

I must admit I was hoping at the end you would show it wrapped with a little duct tape to help keep it together! Most of my electronic fixing experiences all have a little of the silver/grey threaded hold anything together tape involved!

I did a similar Sony RX100 IV repair to the rear LCD. I enabled "false colors" by breaking one of the cable clips and making the connection between the monitor and camera much looser and worse.

Ha ha, the naked X3000's color still looks nicer than the Idolcam's. The focus is only a bit off at arm's length but sharp all the way to the infinity with far less artifacts in the footage. It would still be an excellent tiny camera if you hadn't broken it.

Reminds me of when I did a similar thing on a piece of crap camera about the same size. I wanted to remove the IR Cut filter so it could film in full spectrum (infrared, UV, normal light). I put it all back together and it never turned on again. Small things like that can be a real pain in the ass to disassemble.
