Hi, everyone and thank you for turning in each week! To enter the giveaway, simply leave a comment down below, and the winner will be picked at random and announced next week on our Instagram.
In this episode, Jeff and I talk about push sticks; more specifically to never use the plastic push stick that comes with most saws. I’ve actually never used a plastic push stick, but Jeff has had a bad experience with one and I’ve seen plenty of other woodworkers on Instagram talk about a similar, exploding plastic push stick, experiences.
Thanks for watching!

Fundamentals at its best. Push sticks will inevitably make contact with the blade somewhere along it's contact points, so wood is the only thing really you should use. Great job fellas. 🎯

I enjoy both channels, one for the small shop (like mine) and the larger production shop. Both provide an entertaining and educational use of my time. My current wooden push stick has a nice “over the wood” design but it’s 3/4” wide. It is nearly always too wide to allow for safe usage. A thinner wooden stick would be more practical.

Jon, I started my Woodworking hobby in 2020 and I don't remember how I came across your channel but I am so happy I did because the details you provide in your build plans are absolutely awesome. As a subscriber, it was a natural progression for me to subscribe to TodaysCraftsmen, and just yesterday, I made the miter sled. I don't have a band saw and I am still terrible with a jig saw so I won't try this push stick but I will certainly buy a couple when they are available. Keep up the content Gentlemen because I am sure other "newbies" like me will continue to learn and grow.

100 percent facts on the plastic sticks. Wood push sticks go right through the blade without a problem. I have had two plastic sticks blow up. Even when they don’t blow up you still finch enough to be unsafe. I have had several kickback episodes on several table saws. Make sure to get yourself a comfortable push stick and get comfortable using it. And yes i still have all my fingers as of today.

I was always scared of using the plastic push stick because I thought it would blow up in my face if it hit the blade, just based on the plastic material alone. I ended up tracing the plastic one on plywood because my saw had storage for it on board. This video was educational for me because I didn't realize the design flaw as well. I would also be interested in a template of John's design so that I can make my own. Great video guys!

I use mine but never near the blade. Not some much worried about it exploding but more to keep it fancy. I have worked in a cabinet shop since I was a teenager and its always been shop made push sticks. So when I got a table saw at home and it came with a plastic stick that was the fanciest push stick I have ever had, cause I don't make nice ones like Jon does cause sometimes they might not last that long, plus I have a couple of different designs I make cause I like different ones for different operations. I recently purchased a microjig because I wanted to see what it was all about. Its a nice system but the ergonomics ares so far off of how I make my push sticks its hard for me to get used too.

Very fortunate that the 2 or 3 times ive ran a plastic push stick into the blade, it was a softer plastic and got chewed up. Nonetheless, typically only use wood now.

Really enjoying the channel. There was talk in the beginning about a project based instruction. Is that still in the works?
