Yes I have subscribed I saw straight away that you and I think the same way I started having golf in 2005. Fi The first pro I had a few lessons with wasn't really interested so I moved on and tried another and it was the thing and on it went until I finally got so fed up that I stopped playing outright then my buddy got me interested again. I found that the information that they gave me was very vague I never really understood how the club really works
I’ve had an awful take away for forty years - hands out club behind and never set on plane - if I try and just, let it happens this is what happens.I need to find a way to to set them properly on plane - will try this but am not hopeful
I'm just coming back to the game after 17+ year hiatus. Practiced now for two months. Trending 4.4 handicap. BUT I absolutely cannot figure out a backswing. Do a lot of work with wedges, and cannot for the life of me consistently hit the ball in the same direction. Straight, then push, then fade, then draw, then hook. Natural shot is draw - which I do NOT like. Want a power fade. Can you help me with virtual lessons?
I've been a category 1 golfer for 50 consecutive years but have struggled with wrist hinge since I don't know when! This video is very helpful and will try and introduce to my game. Thak you.
In 20+ years of playing golf I have never managed to understand wrist hinge in relation to the takeaway…… but this video has finally made it click! It has now led me to understand how to use the ground to push off and ‘swing’ with momentum rather than ‘hit’. The difference in power and accuracy is incredible- I’m honestly 2 clubs longer and without the low pull hook of death. Thanks so much Alex- this has genuinely made golf so much more enjoyable for me. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
This is the best tip I’ve ever used. After only 1 range session my ball striking is so much better, especially short game. Just played the best round of my life, and hit a short bunker shot like a pro. It’s almost unbelievable. Can’t wait to keep improving based around this tip
By far the best tip I’ve heard in a long time. Like so many others mention, this will help you take out any other swing thoughts during the backswing and also during the downswing. After implying this I’m hitting both my irons and woods 20-30 yards longer and way more consistently. The fats and thins are also gone. So thank you a bunch!!
THE BEST wrist hinge instruction! Simple Repeatable Reliable. No more countless swing thoughts even before takeaway. Do you have similar instructions for driver? Cheers‼️
Its the "feels" that you talk about that have helped and made my game more "enjoyable"..before my head was wracked with too many technical swing thoughts that actually bounded up my game...thank you for your advice and counseling (if you will) ...lol..
I'm like most golfers in that at address I have about 20 golf thoughts going through my muddle brain. You tip to push down on the handle has been miracle. For what ever reason this one thought rules all others. This thought is now my "precious". I was hitting the ball solid with good compression.
Thanks for letting us know and glad to hear it's doing good things already! Remember though... You must focus on where you want the ball to go.. and the feels to do it. Not the other way round always. Keep at it!
Thanks for saying it's OK to hinge the wrists via extension. I ended up doing it this way as having played cricket it felt much more natural, but literally all other videos only speak of cocking the wrists. My strike improved no end even if it means having a shut face at the top of the swing Hinging via cocking the wrists and rotating the body just felt very alien and my timing on release was really hard.
I tried what you said and I did hit the ball with consistency but if was wondering why you dont stand with the ball in the middle but more towards the front like a driver. Thank you for sharing this video I will keep on practicing because you are right hitting a bucket of ball vs playing a round are 2 different things.
The tip was very good! Thank you. Almost more impressive was the freedom in your wrist movement when you swung the club back and forth in a little half swing. That look was almost like a well oiled hinge and does not resemble my wrist movement, which I hinder for some reason. I shall practice this style. Thanks again!
I have found many of your suggestions helpful. I'll try this one out but my tendency is to cup my wrist so fighting that issue in the take away is my primary concern.
The mechanics of a golf swing are very similar to banging a nail into a piece of wood. The forearm and wrist move away as one without bending the wrist. The return motion of the forearm the wrist bends to allow the mass of the hammer head to be accelated towards the nail head during this downward motion.
I did a swing with trying to push and down on the club down then right after I hit it I said, "no f-ing way" with a smile on my face lol this is one of my last missing puzzle pieces. subbed
Enjoyed your via video but most say hinge of the right hand should be like a tray or carrying a tray is this wrong or how does it fit in thanks for your help Kylie advise Jack
It just takes a few seconds to feel that this helps. In chipping I noticed pushing the clubhead down just slighly while talking it back helps because it prevents the tendency to want to lift the clubhead up. This is similar with the full swing where it makes more sense to focus on the butt end due to the much longer swing 🤔
Does this put the thumb of left hand directly on top off the shaft going back? Is thumb to be directly under the shaft at end of backswing? At impact does the thumb feel more behind the shaft or on top of or in b/t?
I sometimes do not break my wrists enough on the backswing, and then when I try to break them it is not consistent. This should help a lot to get them gradually breaking during the backswing.
Fantastic video! I´ve spent hundreds of hours trying different kind of takeaways, because it feels like this part of the swing have been the nemesis of my swing. Last fall I tried to set the club earlier with a lot of right hand extencion, but this led to a series of (different) problems. Since january I´ve depended much more on left hand extencion and radial deviation, and this feels a lot more natural. Pushing the but end down with the left hand gives natural hinging and flow in the backswing, and it also adds to the dynamics by enhancing upper body rotation (or this is what it does for me). Thanks!
Only problem I see with your demo is that your left wrist is fairly cupped most of the time In down swing and at impact. Most other coaches advise a flat or perhaps slightly bowed left wrist. Otherwise seems sensible.
What people really need to realize is that your club face position at setup....is not necessarily your club face position at impact. At impact, your hips are turned, and your wrist hinge is likely slightly different than your wrist hinge at setup. That is the biggest factor I've encountered, and especially if someone is experiencing a pretty constant pull or strong draw in their iron shots. It requires either setting the wrist hinge differently at setup....or adjusting the club face at setup...to reflect getting a perpendicular face at impact. This issue gets little mention from golf instructors.
such good videos! So simple and helpful and realateable and real. Helped improve my swing but also helped me to relax and enjoy my round a lot more, I was trying way too hard to consciously hinge the wrists since having a lesson and my shots were all over the place, since seeing this video i've gone back to being so much more consistent.
This is EXACTLY what happened to me. I was messing with my wrist hinge and wrist bowing, wrist twisting etc and felt good on the range. Then I went to the course and either blocked shots or hooked shots. I decided that I was badly overthinking
One of the best lessons I’ve seen on correct takeaway and wrist hinging. Unlike many instructors, Alex keeps the golf swing simple, which is the best way to learn it. Too much analysis confuses and over-complicates the golf swing for most amateurs.
What I really value in this vid was the mental aspect from the points made early, regarding natural, flowing for repeatable consistency…my brain is my Achilles!! Does this apply to driver or is this more for irons?
New golfer here, around 5 months. I appreciate what you’re doing with the wrist hinge, but it appears that you’re cupping the wrist dramatically. Most other videos say that’s a swing killer. I get more power by hinging the way you are but I launch everything right.. Very confusing
In the demo and chatting as well as camera angle it’s not precise. I also tend to bow too much so often my rehearsal is more under. With that said, being cupped is not bad depending on what occurs later. It’s also easy for many to apply movement of wrist extension (bowed) late into downswing.
👍Hi i am from Sweden so my English may be poor ?? Subscribing on your chanel. It is great. This video is spot on. To my problems with my swing. well at least one of them
I done this today with a strong grip and soft hands my swing speed jumped up by 10 to 20 mph I've been struggling for months now I can release the club again
It’s very subtle. But yes. You may have too much in the palm. We have videos on the grip EASY Grip Tweaks For Effortless Golf Swing And Distances ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OIaLNDbb3-I.html
I've been working on this, vaguely, knowing my practice swing leads to an easy hinge of the wrists while my real swing, likely affected by tension, never ends up with a proper hinge. When you mentioned pointing the shaft down, I immediately realized that was the difference between my practice and actual swings. Brilliant observation, thanks for the video. Cheers mate!
In a world full of anxiety and stress, it's imperative for us golfers to leave all that behind as much as possible when we get to the course and when we practice. Practice, drills and calmness of the mind are the keys to a great round, and your style of simplicity, flow, momentum and feel, are perfect in this over anxious, "overly conscious" game of golf.
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Lmao. Oh No, I'll leave that to the experts like yourself, maybe it will inspire a future video though. The concept of this reminds me of championship boxers, who are extremely focused, yet always attest to calmness and being relaxed as key to their great success,
That works its really easy you are correct every one i play with ranging from chopper to very good players obsess about what you showed us in not long at all. Really the tempo is as important like you said flow is the key. Great stuff as usual!! k.
Great concept! Gets the shaft vertical and traveling to a good down the line orientation without having to think of positions. As long as I properly turn my shoulders club head momentum sets the shaft
I have just got back into golf, hence a year late reply, I like your easy too understand instructions, can I please ask a question, I was a mid level handicap 10 years ago, now just restarting, I have always heard how important a strong grip is, ie 2 to 3 knuckles showing, I have always had a strong grip with very inconstistent ball striking, the other day at the range I decided to try a neutral grip with barely any knuckles showing and my next 25 ball strikes was amazing I then tried 10 more after with a strong grip and they went back too inconsistent any tips please, as too why I am striking and direction much better with a neutral grip thank you sub added.
I’ll tell you a secret… I do much much better with a “weak” left hand. You just have to know what it does for you and your other movements and the relation to club face. Test. That’s it. 🏌️♂️💪
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Thank you I have since been again too the range and I am certainly ball striking and direction much better with my left hand being weak too neutral, so thats the end of me trying too play with a strong 3 knuckle left handed grip :)
Wow this helped me so much. Helped me get rid of all the swing thoughts as well. I worked on keeping the club outside that it never felt natural lifting the club. Doing this just feels natural and I’m shallowing the club on the downswing just naturally. It’s pretty crazy especially since the amount of time and bad rounds I’ve had trying to be in the right position up top then “dropping the hands”
I feel like my wrist hinge is good but I have a very hard time with keeping that front arm straight. I'm a lefty so for me it's my right arm, for you it's your right arm. I feel like I can't comfortably keep it fully straight. It just feels so uncomfortable
You solved my takeaway/overswinging/ and overturning problems in one short video. When I'm on, I win a lot but sometimes it's hard to keep the proper consistency needed repeat it everyday. My scores are like 74, 78, 76, 80, 82, 73, 75, 81, etc. My inconsistent problems are that I don't always bring a repeatable swing to the course daily. This tip/lesson will give me a chance to to do the same thing every time, cheers!
I expect it will. Now remember to be specific in your visual and aim too. HUGE consistency factor that too many overlook. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-28MWwcPpoeE.html
What a solid lesson. I've been coached on wrist hinge before and this is much simpler than what's been suggested to create a proper hinge. Virtually effortless! I can already feel more snap. Thank you
Very helpful Video Alex Thx. I am focused now on keeping swing slower, hands low on take away is helping. I still have one struggle: I have always struggled rotating my right hand over my left just before impact. I have an extra weak left hand and strong right hand. Any thought/drill to stop rotating the right hand too early? Thanks for all your Vids! Mitch in Cal
Alex, thank you for a very simple approach to the wrist hinge. It worked right away and it works every time. I have always been a fan of the "kiss" approach. Keep the great videos coming. Edd
Great video. A lot of different content around wrist set and it can easily become over complicated. I was stuck in positions for months. Happy new year
