Without doubt the best goalkeeper I have ever seen. In 1 game at Upton Park he produced world class save after world class save... So good that if I hadn't seen them myself I wouldn't of believed them possible. He's absolutely right by the way, most modern keepers would be fit enough to clean his boots.
Sad thing in today's hipsters will call him a dinosaur etc. "Couldn't play out from the back could he" or "He'd ruin your teams possession numbers". He was a top shelf, prime time GOALKEEPER. The best in his position, and there were others of amazing calibre then too. Goalkeepers today are simply failed outfield players.
There is definitely a difference in people who saw him play and people who never the ones who did are leaving the more positive comments 😅 thanks for watching the video
Alison is OK...😂😂..looks like neville ate neville...absolutely top drawer keeper in his day...but please give some context to your argument...Alison is a class act..both as a shot stopper and a passer of a football which the modern game needs
He was box office fair play. Nev is an old school goal keeper, keep the ball out the net first and help the team get control of the game by catching the ball more.
Allison and the modern keepers especially Allison are so quick to close down and recover from saving the first shot......Neville was a good shot stopper but not as fast off the line as these modern keepers.....
@@pacoraye8866 no denying the game is very different these days with more demands on keepers. I think Nevs point is pound for pound, GK vs GK in the purest sense of the form.
Absolute amazing goalkeeper one of the best(from a red) in my amateur opinion 😂 he has a point and yourself made comment however the game has changed and like outfield players there will never be another southall, moore, dalglish, best, beckenbauer, cruyff but we will have a bufon, maldini, puyol, zidane, ronaldo, figo busquets and so on. These players are world class for the era of modern day football and do on through time resulting in the person, alison,Silva,Ramos, iniesta, ribery, benzema,Lewandowski, messi, ronaldo. We could all pull out 50 names from past to present who are world class in what they do.They have different attributes but basically come to the same conclusion winning just like Neville, so in my amateur opinion of the game I love and wish I played, i strongly disagree with the great man influence and an unbelievable goalkeeper.. Neville southall. 🙌🏽
@@mabby7423 that’s what its all about we love hearing football opinions and we are also just fans at the end of the day so hard to argue with a guy who was genuinely world class in the 80s. Also the guy is such a gent, the whole interview was pretty funny 🤣. thanks for watching and for taking the time comment
Says they don’t catch the ball and push it back into play… but watched a 10 minute video of his saves and he didn’t catch a fuckin thing and pushed nearly everyone of them saves back into play and got lucky having plenty of defenders round him because the game was different defenders sat deeper back then but now goalkeepers have to be goalkeepers/ sweeper and distributors…🤔 don’t get me wrong brilliant keeper but has let his old age cloud his judgement on new keepers
Defenders most certainly did not sit back deeper then in England. Late 80s early 90s was the era of the super high offside line. Watch any Arsenal v Tottenham game when Graham and Venables were managers and you'll see how far they pushed up. That's why virtually every game there would be one instance where a quick striker broke the cover and just hated into goal from the half way line with nobody able to catch him.
Southall was a world class keeper in his day but if he thinks the level has dropped he is deluded. For a start off they are now much fitter and are dealing with faster flight if a ball which bends and swerves much more than it used to. Training has improved. Reaction times are better due to this… Not only that but today’s keepers have to be better with their feet rather than just lumping it up the field. They also have to be quicker off their line due to the offside rule that Neville was barely exposed to and which has changed drastically when he did encounter it.
Always tricky to compare eras. I guess Nev might struggle with some of that today and today's keepers might struggle with what the game was like in Nev's day perhaps....
Yes I'd agree with most of that which is why comparing teams and players unfair. That said keepers in Southalls time didn't get the protection they get today
@@Youafool500 think its just his character, he was almost like two people at times. When talking about football he had this driven mentality that came through about being the best and trying anything to get just 1% better. Then there was his compassionate side where he likes to help people and support others. He is a legend for sure.
Are you sure Alisson won more than Nev? I reckon it could be pretty close. Nev X2 leagues, Cup Winners Cup and X2 FA cups. Alisson X1 prem, X1 FA cup, X1 champions league and x2 EFL cups.
@@TheWorldClassStamp Becker has won 7 major trophies with Liverpool, The Fifa world club cup and the European Super cup where the other 2 and the Copa America with Brazil.
Nevs right. The 2 mentioned are definitely not world class. Alisson makes far too many mistakes to be considered! He's a good goalkeeper that's for sure but not world class. As for Ederson, the jury is still out!
I really like them both think they are the best in the Prem over the past 5 years or so, Nev has high standards 😅 “catch everthing!” Thanks for commenting
@@yobask8855it's an opinion led conversation, one of the main reasons we started out on this podcast journey wanting to speak to those who actually played the game at the top level.
@@yobask8855 thats what we want! Everyone to get involved in the debate! Personally i think they are both world class also! I was visibly shocked when he didn’t seem impressed - i could already see the comments section 😆 thanks for watching appreciate you taking the time to comment
