lol idt so bro. more likely he’s just ADHD , makes shit more entertaining anyway. this theory would also explain why he pins these type of comments - RSD is the most overlooked symptom of adhd and ‘pins of shame’ are his way of externalizing his RSD
I like the concept that a win is worth 3 points compared to 1 for a draw. Allowing for players to play for a win and being able to come back from a potential loss rather than just play a quick draw
As a norwegian who saw the same article on TV2, i can confirm that Carlsen cought covid earlier this week and is recovering from it, and he himself said he was unsure of what to expect during this weekend.
Hey Levy, minor detail but reckon you could include the player's ratings next to their names? I often wonder this just to have a guage of who might be favoured or, over time track the rating progress of these top players throughout the various tournaments.
9:11t One thing I really respect about Levy is that he totally understands what he should be at chess community which is to make chess more fun and intriguing
@@mrnewb4725 i reccomend watching a london system video to help with opening and some easy black defenses. also to get bettter id look at chess vision training and material gaining puzzles are great
@@mrnewb4725 with 350 you just need to ask 2 questions all the moves: is any of my pieces hanging? (Count all of them and protect). Can i take anything for free? (Always take the one with most points). Do this is every Turn for the next 200 games. You'll be 800~1000 rating easily
Imaginative Gotham viewers: Uh, you´re showing too many Magnus games, you really love the guy Gotham: proceeds to show a game where Magnus gets absolutely slaughtered
I have never played a game of chess. I find it intimidating and consider myself... incapable of thinking so strategically to play it. But I've spend the entire week watching and listening to Gotham's recaps, explanations, intros to chess, etc. And I still can't figure out if they are just calming background noise or if I'm inspired to try playing, especially in the moments I can follow the moves. Either way, thanks for finally making chess so approachable for me.
It really isn't necessary to cover all the theory. Maybe point out some traps for why normal-ish looking moves aren't played. Instead you end up getting way too much analysis on the opening theory and then they typically don't cover as many variations out of theory which is where the bulk of the analysis should be imo.
You know you're early when you witness Gotham changing the name of the video from "sorry I'm late" to "chess for millions of dollars" And he changed it again to "New $1,600,000 Magnus Chess Tour"
Would have liked to see a match with Vincent, cause he played well today. But still a great recap! Hoffentlich macht Vincent so weiter, gönne es ihm total
@13:40 I appreciate the Ottawa shout out. I live the burbs and watch chess videos in my basement though, so it hasn't affected me. Thanks for keeping the content coming!
Do people seriously have an issue with a Chess youtuber, covering the games of the best Chess player in the world?? He's the BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD!!! The fact that people can't appreciate that is mind blowing to me.
Your videos are really very nice, informative and entertaining as well. It doesn't seem to us that we are watching a video but instead it makes us feel that you're just sitting in front of us and giving lessons and recaps. Keep up the good work dude!! We really love your videos.
Hey Levy! Any advice on which chess books I should start reading as an intermediate player? I’ve never read a book before, only learned through youtube and self-analysis. Anyone in the comments too, if willing to help me out, would be appreciated. Thanks Levy.
The Meltwater Touch and chess24 are perfecting chess coverage. Live board and eval bar always on, scoring to discourage draws, great production with David Howell and crew. And of course, Magnus. How lucky we are.
The article saying Magnus has covid is by TV2, which to be fair is a pretty big news agency in Norway. But its only TV2 saying it, cant find any other Norwegian news on it
I love how I can look at 5:20 and go wtf Magnus hung a full knight for free?? And it takes me like 10 seconds to realize the bishop guards it. I would lose this position with white against a 400
Levy, thanks so much for all the great content you churn out. Your video on the Vienna Gambit is my favorite. I am now a Vienna Gambit monster thanks to you.
I was calculating f4 in that najdorf game trying to put my knight there and was wondering if you can play that then you said it’s a move thank you Levi
@mister kluge Eric is Hikaru’s worst dream. He studies 1% compared to Hiki and Eric wins him continuously…. Even Aman last week got a better position in a game…
I’ve been watching the channel for over a year now, and I think this is the funniest recap I’ve ever watched. Just when I think you’ve mastered the chess entertainment videos you keep on improving. Truly the GOAT.
This is my favorite Levy - self-deprecating and hilarious, relevant info urgently delivered, fistfuls of education, and a video littered with impeccable pronunciation.
Ding needs to get into a tournament - ideally for the world champion - where all the games would be starting at midnight. It would be like a blind man fighting in a perfect pitch black darkness. He is prepared... and his opponent is not. ;)
BTW Levy, just wanted to say that today for the first time in my life Ive beaten a 2000 in blitz on lichess, and it was directly related to some of the many themes you cover here. I gave up a pawn to open up my light square bishop and that proved decisive. Giving up pawns is not something I would have considered 6 months ago. keep the good work!
I thought we were going to have a Benjamin Bark camera fairly often and have been quite disappointed that it has only happened once for the entire episode.
"Equestrian sport!" Just the best!! Great recap to start the tournament. Levy in top form on no sleep. Tough start for both Praag and Magnus (get well soon). Love the format of this tournament - we get to see some creativity and daring (and errors). Thanks for the hard work!
@@kunzite8299 Levy is more of the guy to give you broad ideas rather than delving into every specific line. There are a ton of good youtube channels that do just this though!
Video idea: worst moves of Magnus Carlsen. A collection of his blunders and / or inaccuracies that don't seem bad at first but still lose the game. For example Magnus vs Esipenko, Tata Steel 2018. It can be reassuring that even Magnus makes mistakes, but it also can be useful, instructional and informative. What do you think?
Aye Levy, not only did i start to play rapid (played blitz only) but Ive been hammering through rapid thus far, thanks in no small part to your videos! Thanks!
The score 3 for win and 1 for draw should be the norm. Football uses the score because "draw" is so common in the sport. It is even more common in chess.
Love to see esipekno in so many of these events- alireza is the clear favorite to be the world champ, but esipenko and prag will be challenging him for years to come
Thus begins year 2 of Meltwater proving to be WAY ahead of everyone else in their ability create and broadcast engaging, entertaining, and approachable chess events. The Howell/Houska/Snare trio is rapidly becoming what Rogan/Goldberg were to early UFC, which can’t be understated. Other than Gotham, I can’t think of any content that has leveled me up more, or more quickly than hearing them break down games in this format live. This is the future of chess!
bro levy i was thinking like there should be a cpuntercheck in chess like if someone gives you a check, you could check them back cause if they theoretically took your king you would take theirs
Absolutely amazed by the first game. It is very rare that GMs get a chance to play a game with a piece up. Whenever I am a piece up, it takes me 50 moves of trading to get to a winning position. When GMs are a piece up, it takes them NO effort and 10 moves to mate the opponent. It's a fascinating thing.
Yes Magnus did get covid, i think it was 3 days ago, on the Norwegian stream they were talking about how we could allow him to play a couple of bad games since hes sick w covid
I appreciate your commentary on current events. Totally accidentally ended up stuck in the middle of the convoy recently. All the roadside support made me feel like I was the Queen or something though, so there's that
