I love that first game, it reminds of how many times ben finegold explains that aronian is like an unstoppable force. He's always saying how it sucks to play aronian because even if you are better than him, he always plays the first 20 moves instantly, and if he doesn't it's because you're losing and he's calculating a win. The psychological aspect is big, after 20 moves of instant prep it's like, even if there isn't a time advantage how do you play a guy that just knows everything already, you have to like know something he doesn't or discover something mid game. Then you have magnus, who is basically aronians brain with hikarus skill. Magnus knows it all already and he's better lol.
Magnus does lose from time to time, but he has an incredible average performance level in tournaments. In fact, the reason why Magnus Carlsen is a legendary chess player pertains to the fact that he dominates the performance charts/rankings of all types including move accuracy, win percentage, elo, etc.
@@ironeagle4274 what makes him special is that he isn't just a chess genius like Murphy and Fischer, he also has an eidetic memory. His memory isn't perfect, but his eidetic memory allows him to spend less time prepping individual positions and allows him not to repeat mistakes often. While magnus has repeated mistakes before, particularly in time trouble and in faster time formats, once he makes a mistake and figures out why it's a mistake he will almost never forget that position or analysis. Magnus is the closest thing you can get to Leela Alpha and other learning CPUs in a human. If he was just a genius he wouldn't be any better than Hikaru, and if he just had his memory he could likely be a lower level GM but likely wouldn't have even bothered. But since he has both he excels. His eidetic memory isn't as accurate as when he was a child but his ability to understand and retain information that is seemingly trivial is mindboggling.
I am a 950 rated player - and yet I still understand the main points you are making. You are a brilliant at forwarding complex chess strategy - even so that lower rated players can get something out of it. -EZ to tell you have great humour too. A true pleasure to watch/learn from your videos. Keep up the good work! -mad respect from 🇩🇰
@@bootyshake5043 People like you are just trolls looking for attention and likes. Grow up and stop taking childish pot shots at a random guy that you’ve never met.
Love the vowel reduction in the name of Oparin pronouncing it like Aparin. Just learned it during Russian classes but what do you know? Levy teaches me as well!!
Hi Levy! This will be a longer one, but I wanted to let you know. I've never been interested in chess, but on a whim I decided to see figure out how to actually play the game. Your 10 minute chess openings showed me a whole new world of chess and I got hooked on your humor and information in a game I've never considered besides as a sore spot for something I was truly terrible at. My daughter would try to grab the chess pieces off the screen when we'd watch you at nap time and I've watched nearly every video you've uploaded since. This was a year and a half ago. I'm now trying to teach my son chess, but I'm horrible at retaining information so I STILL only barely know how to play, though my husband is now worse than I am. So I just bought your beginner and intermediate courses (using code "twenty" I'm glad that's still up.) All this to say, thank you for enriching my life so much and showing me a great way to bond with my 7 year old and enjoy that time with him. You're the GOAT.
2:17 the reason the bishop move is so powerful is because you’d have to give you your queen. If king steps up to e2 the black plays e3 check and the king is over exposed and will soon lead to mate or a significant amount of material loss
Well let's hope that it's early enough that Hikaru can make a comeback since everybody just wants to draw every game he might get his opportunities if he attacks.
I don’t really comment often if ever on videos. Just wanted to give you a shout out Levy. When you ask if we are still here, I’m always still here. Thank you sir for your contribution to my life. It is meaningful in a way you may never understand but I do truly wish you and everyone else to experience. Much love
Another reason why hikaru is hated by stockfish is because he thinks of moves that even stockfish doesn’t think of for it usually looks outrageous but works
@@L3nLu this was before Karjakin got booted. As long as Ding Liren retains his rating and plays a certain amount of games within the next two months I think, he will take Karjakin’s spot
12:00 I have a question How is the pawn attacking the center when it attacks absolutely nothing😭 I’m sorry if I’m just stupid but my 1300 elo brain doesn’t understand this
I’m really happy to see this variation of the queen’s gambit at such a high level. It is by far the most instructive game I’ve seen to date Update: Anti-nimzo main line goes hard as well. Damn, am I getting better that I kind of understand what’s going on? Lol
Levy to his audience: " - You´re great. You´re worth more than a queen." One among the audience: " - I know what I want and I want it now. I want you!"
@@nonsense8079 After Bishop b4 check White has to play Queen d2 But if white plays King e2, then Queen takes e4 is mate. We did not miss anything. If White played Nc7+, then our variation can happen. But White, Levon Aronian, played Bishop to f4 instead.
10:02 how did Hikaru not draw this that is the question lol this is easy without whites rook. bishop goes to e5 and then what does Hikarus king do? it goes to kill the pawn on g4 white would have to defend the back pawns of course but either way it ends in a draw here. g5 pawn ends on a white square.
Let it be said, at least I really appreciate the Pegasus reference. Good stuff Levy! + Pegasus gets bonked at around episode 25ish of a 226 episode show, so it barely qualifies as a spoiler.
