One point i never see get brought up is the fact that you dont have to put it back on a cradle to change the weights. I will often do a drop set with my power blocks and can just put them on the floor, change the weight and keep going. Underrated advantage of powerblocks. Nice review!

I just posted something similar and saw your comment after. Agree 100%. I say this as a noubell fan that it is a bit of a process to return it to the cradle before switching it up again.

I had powerblocks previously and am working with some Nuobell knockoffs now - not having to go back to the cradle is a great benefit for drop sets - used to do that all the time. Also, the Noubell knockoffs are very tough to put back in the cradle properly with one hand - I constantly have to re-adjust - as opposed to the powerblocks which generally went back into the weight stack properly

That was the deciding factor for me, I didn't want a broken cradle to make my dumbbells useless and I just wanted to put them where I need them. That and all of the adjustable mechanisms on other quick adjust dumbbells are too complex and will break.

Finally a review on the pro 100s! Pretty good review Coop. Other than the additional 10 lbs, I’m not quite swayed to upgrade to the new version. Love the 90s. They are absolute bulletproof! Also, waiting on your review on the core fitness 50 dumbbells & how it differs from the nuobells

Great review! I’ve used the Power Blocks and Bowflex SelectTech. They’re both good but the Bowflex will eventually jam and become finicky to deal with. I didn’t mind the “cage” feel at all.

I purchased the EXP Pro (50lb version) as my very first piece of equipment in my new home gym. I now have added both the 2nd and 3rd stages so they are now @ 90lbs. I have also upgraded to the knurled handles which were super easy to install. I absolutely love them. I totally agree the cage design takes a bit of getting used to. I have been using them for a little over a year now and I dont even notice the cage anymore. I also can change the weight in under a second. As with most gym equipment you get much more savvy using it as time goes on. Thanks so much for the great review.

I've had the powerblock 85# pro rexan model for about 10 years now. They have held up this entire time in my home gym. My fire chief told me he had worked out with some in Ramstein Germany Air Force Base back in 2012. I recently went there and the same set was still there in this little firehouse gym. Still in use. Powerblocks for life. I want a new pair though. Would like some 100s!

I’ve had Nuobells for about a year and a half; had Powerblock before. Man, I LOVE Nuobell. The balance, the feel, it definitely has held up well with daily use over this past year and a half. If they came out with a 100lb adjustable, I am SOLD.

Nuobell uses tiny plastic cam followers to move the bars in and out. It's not a matter of if they will fail, it's a matter of when. And when they do they are not serviceable, you need to buy an entire new handle. Unacceptable at that price point, IMO.

I REALLY wanted to justify the Nuobells over Powerblock but they are just way too fragile for something that's supposed to be simple and heavy. They're weights, that's all, but there are endless accounts of Nuobells failing. If I'm spending ~$800 for something that only needs to be heavy then I want it to last. Nuobells will not last.

I have 2 pairs of powerblocks - the original Elite and the Pro Series 90. I ordered knurled handles from Average Joe innovations and they made the PROs a game changer. The original handle with the Elite version is really good- those only go up to 55 for mine but I thought that caged in handle was nice. It’s funny when you said people dont want to be caged in - squat in power rack cage! I would highly recommend the power blocks. They have been in my training studio and home gyms for many years and they are beautiful and easy to use.

I have a set of Elites (up to 90) and find them incredibly versatile. One thing I've rarely seen mentioned is that Powerblocks can be flipped upside down and then you can use the cylinder tubes as dual handles. I've been doing several exercises (e.g. overhead tricep extensions) using both hands on the cylinder tubes. It might be worthwhile pointing that out to Powerblock and having them add knurling to those cylinder tubes.

I like the idea of getting adjustables for group training at a private facility so athletes never have to leave their rack area but I'm concerned about the functional limitations and durability of adjustables. Pepin Fast up to 120 lbs seem like a solid option. I know a lot of colleges have Powerblocks. Just curious what you recommend in this scenario or if I should just stick with a traditional dumbbell set up over adjustables. Appreciate any feedback!

100 pounds is a nice upgrade but man, they are even more expensive now with 3 upgrades required instead of 2. Also, I wish they would open up the bottom of the handle like some old models so you can hold it easily with 2 hands as long as you are working with 60/70 pounds or less. Lastly, they should come out with a heavy handle (starting at 20 or 30 pounds) to increase the weight for the heavy lifters without having to upgrade to a super expensive niche model.

Also I'm traveling next year in my van and will be working out outside mostly. I'm thinking I'll probably have some issues if the ground outside isn't perfectly level. I've also watched other people's videos who have issues with this, because their stage isn't perfectly even, and makes them hard to adjust

Does it immediately come in with 100lbs or do I have to buy all of the expansion kits to get it to a 100lbs?

Years ago I asked if the coated (hence quieter) Powerblocks came in the "squared-off" design (like the uncoated ones) because I didn't like the "bread-loaf" design. Months ago on RU-vid, I saw someone using this new Pro model, saw them sold at Hammer Strength and said "Yes!". Wanted some ever since.... Hey, but what are the new adustables Clench has recently come out with? Am new this past year to real internet access; been watching RU-vid only 11 or so months now ... (Wow! Information! ). Trying to catch-up some.... Many thanks for your tests and input!

Average Joe innovations, Bare Steel, and JDGym equipped all sell handles for powerblocks and all of them have great knurl. Average Joe’s are 30mm, 35mm, and 40mm (if he still sells all three). JDGym’s and Bare steel’s are 1.25” (32mm)

You simply can’t beat the durability. Bought my first set in 1996 and that lasted me 20 years before i upgraded to the 90lb set. Have had the Elite USA now for like 6-7 years and still going strong. Agree that there should be the option for knurled or stock handle. Just doesn’t make sense the knurled handle isn’t an option

It is an option now, just ordered a set with knurled handles today.

I currently own a1st Gen set of power blocks and I honestly love them. I've wanted to get the upgrades to bring them to 90lbs, but I have a hard time justifying the cost of the upgrades, which is honestly my only complaint about the product.

Like many reviewers, I have had my powerblocks for near 20 years and they still work as well as before... As for the size "issue", a 100 pound DB will be of similar size, wider if not as long, so I don't see an issue... My 50 pound powerblocks are shorter than my 60 pound DBs... And I prefer the rubber/plastic grips to the neural grips... (I know, most likely the ONLY one... 🙂)

For me, a guy who always used fixed dumbbells in a home gym of my Dad's friend, I dont see how people like Powerblocks. They would be like lifting with tree stumps on the ends of my hands, although I always say "to each his/her own" and I believe that so I think the Powerblock people will really enjoy this new adj. Dumbbell. However, why in the world would they put a rubber grip on them. As much as Coop speaks about knurled grips, seems they might've dropped the ball thete.

Should i get the new "100" series or rather the older pro series of these things? The old ones are getting cheaper ofcourse and i cant see that much of a difference between them and the new ones....

Hey, you should do a review on Walton stainless steel Olympic weight plates it took me two days to find a stainless weight plate. There’s just not very much information on them and or reviews.

The commercial version doesn't have adder weights, so it's better balanced!! Plus both the heavier and the lighter weighted handles are more open underneath, because they doesn't have the cylinders where you normally put the adder weights in.

Thanks Coop! I have a pair of powerblocks and ironmasters. I love them both but the ironmasters win out for me every time because we can get up to 160lbs. Powerblock needs to get that expansion up to 150lbs each and they would be my go to dumbbells; but until then, ironmaster all the way. If you guys know of a better adjustable than ironmaster with up to 150-160 of weight per dumbbell, let me know!

With the heavy handle kits the Ironmasrters go to 180 lbs. each.. The only other I know of is the Powerblock commercial series at 175 lbs each.. Unless you’re using plate loaded like Rogue db-15 with 10 lb plates then it’s 200 lbs each.

@@cclark5051 I just checked the prices.. The Ironmaster upgraded to 180lb each will cost $1814/pair(360lbs). The Powerblock commercial series $2238/pair -rogue website..(350lb) Oops the iron master upgrade to 180 lbs each is only $1655.. I miscalculated the $ 159 heavy handle add on it is 159 for the extra 15 lbs for both ..Price breakdown for Iron master. $698 for the 75 lb each, 399 for the add on kit to 120lbs each ,399 for the add on at 165 lbs each and 159 for the heavy handle kit 180lbs each. $1655 for the pair not including tax or any shipping fee..And it’s much more outside of the USA.. I’m from Tokyo,Japan ..when I bought my IronMasters the were even cheaper on price, minus tax, and shipping! These 180lbs each upgrade are what I have. And from rogue the Powerblock commercial series 175 lbs each are currently $2238 for the pair USA.. minus tax or shipping. My advice is if you want the heaviest ,then upgrade your Ironmaster set. It’s overall much cheaper. Especially if you are buying them new at current prices!

Great review . Are my U90 power block dumbbells perfect ? No . Do I love them ? Absolutely .I do not regret buying them at all . I personally turn the blocks to the side when curling .It definitely takes the weird feeling on the wrist away and makes them feel much more natural .

I went PowerBlocks mainly because they have a rubber coating. I don't have a dedicated home gym with rubber mats and just work out in my office, which has wood floors, and most other adjustable dumbbells have sharp metal edges that would dent and scratch my wood floors when I set them down.
