Very nice engine. I have the 2017 of this engine, and the sound when idling is much quieter in real life than this vid would have you believe. I have totally forgot its idling a few times because you just can't hear the thing. So awesome.

Well, my 75HP merc. is mounted and broke in. You are right. You can't even hear the thing running. A great motor! I watched your video over 40 times. I just loved seeing your motor idle. And how quiet it was. Thanks.

I got the 2022 90 HP, what a solid motor. I bought it new in 22 and only have just over the break in period for hours. We do a lot of drift fishing and do not run the motor a lot. But when I need to go the power is awesome. Great motor. Thanks for the video!

Agree 100%. On my Legend X16, it drives the boat sufficiently fast for me, plus most important, this motor is exceptional for gas mileage. I can drive all day long on it's 30 litre tank and come back with lots of gas to spare. I usually keep it at about 4000 to 4500 rpm for best gas mileage, and this runs it at 45kph, which gets me where I want to go fast enough. I changed out the prop to a 15 inch pitch which cuts down the speed but also allows it to troll very slowly as well when I need to. I have about 50 hours on my 2017 model engine now, and honestly, have little to nothing to criticize about it. I do all my own maintenance and it's super easy to do. Mercury has a winner here......

Mine was built in March 2021. I received it April 4th. It has been a month since I got it. And already have 25.5 hours on it. Out all the time.

Hi Kenny - did your 2020 version of the motor have noise insulation? My 2021 version did not... it's fairly quite, but I've noted no noise insulation... does yours?

These 2.1L Mercs are soooo nice. And this is coming from a guy who owned a Yamaha F115LB from 2014-2019. It was very nice as well but the Merc is quieter, very torquey (2.1L vs Yamaha's 1.8L displacement) and I like the self-adjusting valvetrain. I'm also envious of the fact that you have Legend. I'm seriously considering going into Canada to get one after the border re-opens, whenever that happens. I can just see the U.S. Customs agent when I try to re-enter the U.S. Customs agent: "So you drove from the southeastern U.S. into Canada just to get this aluminum boat? Me: "Yes" Customs agent: "Why?" Me: "Because everything sucks compared to a Legend." Customs agent: "Ok, pull over so we can search EVERYTHING."

I'm seriously blown away. I knew it would be better, but I didn't factor how much better it was on my boat. Maybe one day we'll let people in again. Tell the boarder agent coming into Canada you're going for a Legend and he'll give you a high five and a few pointers to some secret spots ehhhh!! Thanks for watching!

Oh, BTW . . . not being critical at all . . . but it looks like you have the standard gearcase instead of the Command Thrust. I can tell because the sticker on the lower unit shows that the gearcase reduction is 2.07:1. That's the gear in the standard gearcase. The Command Thrust is 2.38:1. In my opinion, the standard gearcase is better for your boat. The larger Command Thrust would just add unnecessary drag. You should have adequate grip without the larger prop diameter, especially since you are using a 4-blade. Enjoy !!

Very happy with my 2.1 F115 with the 2.07 gearcase and a 19P Spitfire X7 propeller on my 18 foot boat. It's fast.

Were your controls compatible or did you need a new throttle? I priced a new 90hp command thrust at bass pro for $8300....is that a good price or is there someone cheaper because I have not found anyone else. I know it will cost me 500 to a thousand depending on controls. Thanks......your video made my decision. My pontoon is a 1995 and has a 1995 70hp Merc Force.......

Mine was compatible with the existing throttle cables, and so were my guages, but they were old guages so I prefer using the vessel view mobile module. It's way more accurate. I bought mine in Canada but that price is better then what I paid. You wont be dissapointed. Thanks for watching!

Many thanks for posting this awesome video! I'm excited because I just bought the exact same motor, and am 1/2 way through the break-in period. Question: does your motor have any sound insulation under the cowling? Mine came with none... and it's super noisy when running at full throttle... thanks in advance for letting me know!

I have none either, but I wouldn't say it's super noisy at full throttle. In the vid is as loud as it gets. I can hear ot at full throttle but its much more quiet than my old motor.

Hey I'm easily getting to 55km/h and my boat is a 2002 legend xcalibur 16 which is 16'9". Not sure what the weight is. It's pretty heavy. Thanks for watching.

I just bought a new Legend XTE with console etc. I had it powered with the same motor (90hp Merc). I see your running the four blade prop. Mind if I ask what pitch it is? Did you try a 3 blade before the four blade and if so do you like the four blade better and why?😊

I had a 3 blade on my older motor before this one. The 4 blade really bites into the water as you are moving forward and always feels connected. In reverse it feels like it slips a little. Its hard to explain. Im pretty sure its a 17p.

The engine itself was close to 12k CAD, plus rigging and taxes and anything else you need or opt to include. But that was two years ago. Alot has changed in pricing and availability. I don't regret it. The updated engine is next level. I love it.

I have this same merc on my Lund adventure and it really moves! But I have a quick question. I have a 4 blade prop as well. Are all 4 blade props considered spitfires or are there different ones?

Not sure. Best to clarify with your local dealer. I think all mercury spitfires are 4 blade.

My boat is heavy and the prop I have on it is for fish ski so its middle between torque and speed. I regularly get up to 50km/h

Gps reads 2km/h. I think it's a little fast for trolling, but I mostly bass fish so I can live with it. I'm sure with some prop changes it could be dialed in.

14 by 17p. Works really well. The 4 blade feels like it connects really well with the water.

@@poppymonroewild Has to be 13" diameter x 17p. The 14x17 is for the Command Thrust lower end and the 150+ hp motors with the 4.75" torpedo, which as you noticed you do not have. The 13" diameter prop is for the standard 2.07:1 gear case with the 4.25" diameter torpedo.

You said your old motor was a 2002. And you repowered your boat because you couldn't get parts. Is that true? An 18 year old motor should find parts. Or did you give that story to your wife, so you could just get a new motor???

Ahhahaha availability of new parts couldn't be confirmed at the time, and I didn't want used market, as the same issue that caused the fire would again be back on my boat in the same vintage. I guess I could have spent a good amount of time looking for parts and not had access to my boat for the year. I considered repowering the year before but the costing didn't make sense... until insurance. I could have gone with a used engine but the new 90 wasn't that much more. Thanks for watching.

@@poppymonroewild I ordered a 75HP. But I love hearing the motor you have. They are so quiet! I can't wait till spring. I am still waiting for my motor to arrive. I did receive a vessel view to put on it. (when it gets here). Lots of great features to add to the motor break in and maintenance.
