HEY! I'm a Yamaha tech. The SHO offers a different ignition timing and engine tune to provide more horsepower at high RPM's, but with a little less torque on the lower rpm range . SHO engines can have up to 10% more horsepower at max RPM. SHO's are meant for light boats that go fast. I think you will be very happy with your choice :)

yeah my friend has the exact same Merc...definitely an outstanding motor of its time but when the parts shelves get light and the trolling is towards the shoreline---safe decision on the upgrade!
Quick maintenance tip: Have a large container filled with fresh water at home and after the usual cleaning with fresh water, run the motor for a few minutes in the tub/container ect~

Nothing but wow! The price, I had to stop the vid and grasp my pearls. Looking up the motor at Yamaha, very impressive. Your added mods, steering etc. nice. Seeing just how trim that boat runs, wow. Congratulations, what a nice boat and motor.
Love those yamahas! Biggest problem is trying to start the running motor because they are so quiet. Best outboards there are! Great choice👍👍👍 You have a new boat!
Congratulations on the upgrade. I did not know the boat was 16', it handles like a 20' out there. I need to upgrade my little boat to something that can go out the Gate. Soon I hope....

I bought a second hand 18 ft runabout with a 115 -2 stroke evinrude. Man that thing guzzled fuel! Switched to a new 90 4 stroke, boy i wished I had did it earlier!

Man the fishing down there in Cali got to be better than here in Washington state salmon season is cut short again bottom fishing is closed any rock fish and fishing for long they only give us 45 days in some areas other than that we are screwup here and I bought a nice freekin aluminum boat a few years ago and hardly use it but I love to fish tight lines my fishing friends keep up with the great video. I’m a disabled veteran and my boat is 171/2 jet craft nice boat has two stoke 50 horse Johnson I want to change it out and after watching your video you got me convinced to get a Yamaha that’s what me and my friend been talking a bout thanks
This is a proper boat dude. You won't get sick anymore if you keep standing up and compensate for the waves with your body, so the head stays in the same spot! Imagine your head on a gimball, you need that picture leveled. By the way that new Yamaha looks dope! Be safe and have fun!
