@@stevexaxa3619 I mean...it's objectively better in pretty much every way. Just as good if not better infotainment, no valve adjustments needed so less long term maintenance, liquid cooling so less heat between legs on a summer day, more power and torque, better brakes and more lean angle for fun on twisty roads. You can argue styling if you want but that's all subjective. So basically all you got is that it's more expensive, but it's got more tech so the value is there.

I owned a road glide and one thing that was not mentioned is the 122hp the Challenger has. A standard road glide special is 90hp. That is a 32hp difference and while they probably have enough HP to get you to 70mph, that extra 32hp will come in handy when passing. Not to mention a water cooled engine. Was stuck in traffic on my road glide and ended up with blisters on the inside of my leg! hopefully this won't happen with the water cooled engine. Just something for me to consider. I ride a 2018 Scout. It's my first road bike and I love it. I have a few upgrades on it and other than trying to tame the wind/buffeting, the bike has been pretty much flawless. I've been an Indian fan since I was in HS. I had one of the Italian-made Indian MX bikes and have been a fan ever since. I've been looking at the the Springfield and chomping at the bit to get one. However, after seeing the Challenger, I may change my strategy. The base Challenger is only $1k more than the two-tone Springfield, and you get much more bike, in my opinion. If you look past the fairing, this bike is NOTHING like a RG. I'm amazed at how people reduce a motorcycle to a cosmetic detail, calling it a, "rip-off". I've looked at pictures of the the fairings side-by-side and they're nothing alike. The RG is a about as simple of a design as you can get, with virtually no, "lines" or details designed in. The Indian has some sharp, modern looking lines built-in, making it look like they actually spent some time creating something that was nice to look at. The RG is a simple, flattened out bowl. But, if you still think the fairing is a rip-off, that's where it ends. Period. You can't go any further than that. Everything else about the Challenger is different and better. If you put the two side-by-side and had to buy one or the other, I can't think of one reason a person would go with the RG. Indian has a winner on it's hands. I hope they can keep up with production demands!

The Scout was released before the Octane. However, the liquid cooled motor had been designed and patented by Victory almost 5 years before the Scout was released. As a mechanic my only gripe with the Victory and Indian bikes is that the transmission is internal to the engine case. What that means is if the transmission EVER needs servicing you're splitting the cases to gain access to it and that's gonna be very expensive. Harley Davidson has managed to keep theirs separated from the engine and no "splitting of the cases" is required to gain access to the gearbox. Might not be a big deal to most people but I like my stuff separated.

It's a nice bike but at 27k is it better than a Honda or Kawasaki? If it's just slightly better than the Harley is it the most competitive bike they could have offered?

@@stevexaxa3619 This is objectively a much better motorcycle... Harley is the Apple of the motorcycle world. Half the sales are brand recognition, not a superior product. I'd have the Indian any day.

Ivan Jetá ride what you like there are a lot of gold wings out there and it's a decent bike but not for me but i will argue anyday that indian is better quality then harley.... i don't think you could ever prove that at best in some cases equal and i'm being generous

@@stevexaxa3619 I also think Indians are better bikes overall don't get me wrong. If I was in the market for an American V-Twin and money wasn't and issue the FTR1200, Scout Bobber and Dark Horse would be on top of the list and only the Fat Bob and Low Rider S. For now, I'm looking to trade in my old Fazer for the new BMW 1250 GSA. It's always been my dream bike.

Check out Gears & Gadgets channel. In the last couple days he did a great video about the dealer coverage for both Indian and HD. Indian may have a whole heck of a lot less dealers, but they have done a good job in the States of strategically placing dealers and so the coverage not bad. Also i believe Polaris dealers can also work on Indian bikes even if they are not an "Indian" dealers, so that bumps up the coverage again.

Nice to see a real American motorcycle again. Ever since the last American bike, the Goldwing, moved back to Japan in 2015, all we have had is the Curry burner China bikes, aka, Harleys. If i wanted a chinese bike I would buy one. This is a huge step forward. Real shock set up, upside down forms, hydrolic adjustment, liquid cooling. Now put this in a touring bike and I am all in.

I think they not only had an eye on the Road Glide but also took queues from the other bikes in this space like the Yamaha and Kawasaki. I think there were mods to the fairing because of the Yamaha, otherwise it would have looked more like the Road Glides fairing.. What I like about the new motor (remember the baby motor was used in the Vic Octane) is no push rods and the higher redline. The Yamaha is a nice bike, but you hit redline WAY too quick.. They can say it's not a Victory motor, but Vic was more about performance, Indian was about vintage.. It's great to see the Vic engineers were able to stretch there abilities into this motor, and some features of the bike (brakes, inverted forks, mono shock, etc. Etc.. Hopefully they gave it some legroom! The Indian cruisers were all just as cramped as the HD'S are..

Or a decent front and rear suspension. I see no reason why a modern motorcycle doesn’t have inverted forks. It’s especially insulting that HD makes their forks look like their inverted with large covers on the top end while still having traditional forks.

Harley plays on the fit and finish, of the fixtures of the things you touch the things you see and can relate to, I.e at the controls, the hand grips, its in-board dash, you know it a Harley. It’s production - final end product is all encompassing, it’s about its genuine parts, a product everyone can relate to. Harley Davidson is ‘Solid’ from its inception. That leads me to to prices. The picture paints an attractive picture like something to strive for and be like everybody else. I bought a new Suzuki boulevard c90t (left over 2018) for much much less cost, and I know nobody will do that.
