I like the line up. Keep up the good work Indian. The Indian Chieftain with the 116 is awesome. That is what I ride. I fall in love with that bike over and over again. No need to worry about few dealerships. These motorcycles are built right. I am a satisfied customer. I have over 78,000 miles on my motorcycle and just basic maintenance. Oil change, tires, clutch greased, and putting gas in tank. It makes me proud to see Indian expand their line up. Ride what you feel safe riding. Indian is a Great motorcycle.

They’re both to expensive for what they offer. But yes Harley is sometimes cheaper on certain items depending on where you go as well. Regardless, ride what you want to ride not what others want you to ride. Both are great it’s just a matter of what calls to you. Like they say if you get off the bike and don’t look back at it it’s not the one.
Ive got a Chieftain limited and love it great for multiple days on the road touring loaded with luggage. Had a Chief darkhorse before it and was always not happy with the bulk of the fenders and know some guys have actually replaced the front wheel with a 19' and a slim fender to personalise. But now Indain have done it. Its a day ride or overnighter on fire. The rear shocks would be like my HD Sportster a bit stiff for longer trips but i'm sure the after market suppliers are clamering to get a product to market or tweek an existing product to suit. Bravo to Indian for building something which i believed they missed in releasing the scout bobber range but have now corrected in spades. Lets see what comes next with the PowerPlus motor range. Things are exciting around Indian.
Chief Dark Horse with the passenger seat & backrest pad would be my pick. Stunning looking bike. It looks like it would be so joyful for short rides with another passenger. Almost forgot, another great review man!
@@sebastiansibley7357 lol stop being defensive. Being an apologist for a multi-million dollar company for their shortcomings is detrimental for everyone.
@@MrSang-py3dd ??? I just think y’all are just assuming it’s not going to be enough stopping power without actually having ridden it yet. The recent first impression videos of the rebel 1100 shows that It can be done so maybe just wait and see before judging
I'd go with the base model, and maybe add high bars which are available as an option. Would prefer it's mag wheels. Easier to clean, and tubeless tyres 👍
The tourer with the screen and bags for mine. It would be good if you could get a 5 gallon tank as an option. Engines have that superb retro vintage look- I prefer blacked out to more blingy chrome. Better than a Harley Lowrider or Heritage terms of price, ride , features? A comparison would be good to see.
Check me if I am wrong but Indian just started doing the rear cylinder deactivation like in 2019, Harley Davidson implemented EITMS (does same thing) in 09 I think but you could have dealer do free software update have it on as far back as 07 models... sorry for interruption please continue
@@andresalaskeno74 Not sure how that is relevant to fact that Indian has only been doing this a few years and i wouldn't describe that as ages... but apparently me pointing out what I believe to be a fact has made you feel like I have implied Harley was better than Indian in some way and you feel the need to defend them by pointing out issues with the M8 design. I like Indian just fine, the FTR is a bike I am considering n the future if I like it after doing a demo. I am also glad I bought my SG in 16 and it is a twin cam not a M8...if your looking for someone to argue with try again just cause I like my Harley doesn't mean I am blind to mistakes they have made.
Yeah these bikes are nothing but playing catch up to HD. They're just a knock off Dyna. They even took the Dyna Lowrider S's exhaust! Seriously aircooled only engines with a 3 cam design? No inverted fork models? No dual disc models? No monoshock? No oil cooling not even as an option? "But its got a tft display!" Yeah only if you pay for the 19000$ or above bikes. I could buy a Lowrider S for 18K, get Dual Disc front brakes, Inverted Front Forks, a better engine that runs cooler with a stock oil cooling unique for 1000$ less. Bravo Indian you've caught up to the 2017 Dyna Street Bob. Big Whoop.
@@grahamnelson5376 If you're going off just performance, sure. Scout is crazy fun and fast. This version of Chief is what I personally wanted out of a bigger Scout, though. So, for people who don't want to go full touring and didn't want the heritage styled TS, this is it. Plus, tech... Folks like me like Tech.
@@BrandonBicasso Funny, I was thinking Indian was targeting your demographic. I've read several comments on forums and social media of the mid-20 crowd showing interest. I'm a Baby Boomer and like to see the Indian brand thrive and grow. Glad to see the younger generation is taking notice.
I’ve sat on all three and like all three. Waiting for my Chief Bobber to arrive, would Prefer the Chief Dark Horse with spoke wheels and forward controls.
Indian did a great job with this ! The Chief Bobber would be my thing . I think it's getting difficult for Harley to give a good match on these . Euro prices have to make the differnce. Very nice job !
I agree, that bobbers pretty nice. Disagree in every way that its hard for harley to match them though. My street bob was basicalk the exact same bike when i bought it. I do like that the indian comes with a touch screen infotainment center though, but i wouldnt say its enough to consider harley unable to match them. In contrast, i was able to install a big bore kit on my harley, which you cant do on the indian. Id say that more than makes up for it not coming with gps
I agree Jimi. I always had Harleys and they have been great fun for me. Still have some older harleys that fit me better. At the moment the sportster is not more in the list in Europe (emission) , I hope Harley keep making fun and great bikes.
Indian has just been copying Harley the last years. It’s easy to put out similar looking bikes from another company but to have been around 117 yrs tells me something.
@@ronmarvicsin7709 I disliked harleys.. but you know what .. it was love of harley which brought me to motorcycle riding...Thing is harley is not doing certain things.. other manufactures taking advantage by making improvements.... now If i was in bit warmer weather I would have pre-bought this new indian bike..
@@MrSang-py3dd Once I was watching this video about HD, one guy said harley should have used vrod engine to make a adventure bike back in days when they had that rock solid engine... now that adventure riding is every where.. now HD trying to catch up...
@Mick Allen Doesn’t matter what extras you have put on the motorcycle they go by the value of the motorcycle before upgrades that you might have put on so people like you trying to get more money for the bike because of your upgrades will surely be disappointed when you come across or a dealer who doesn’t care about that. That’s why you only got 3k instead of the 8k you were looking for
I’m not a cruiser guy, but those look great, somehow for my personal tastes, they’ve achieved something that HDs have not. I like the dashboard, I think that BMW could have done something similar for the R9T and the R18, now that they have two models that could utilise the advanced electronics in a neo-retro TFT, perhaps they’ll think about doing it.
Finally. A big twin, stripped-down(ish), well-appointed cruiser from Indian. Nothing against the Scouts, but just a tad too small. Those gawd-awful overstated mudguards are gone. There’s a lot to like here. But can anyone tell me why manufacturers show us knobs with $80 helmets riding the demos? Curious in Canada.
2 years ago they also patent "raptor" name - When they patent "Challenger" That will be the water cooled 108" on a stripped down bike to be released in 2022 I bet
Wish they would go back to making the Victory Lineup again! I have my 8 Ball and it’s such a great machine! Though I wouldn’t mind adding a Dark Horse to the garage.
Premium European bikes offer stability control with IMU standard. Euro 5 beginning to require traction control. Harley or Indian do not offer electronic suspension. They could use more aluminum and carbon fiber to help handling, braking, and acceleration.
I love all the tech on those bikes but these bikes are already overpriced. If they were to kit them out like those bikes you would be hitting 30K for them. Simply because they say Harley and Indian not because they actualy cost that must to manufacture. I was disappointed Indian didn't bring anything out earlier so desided on a 2021 Kawi Versys 1000 for long hauls. 19K with every possible rider aid and comfort you can imagine. Looks like I'm getting a Chief Darkhorse instead and a used Versys now.
For me it is a mix bag of an upgrade. Yes you get the new screen and eletronic toys (which don't cost that much from a production point of view once developed you just knock them out) sadly Indian saved money on where it matters. Gone is the twin disc setup up front and the twin shocks at the back are cheaper and less advance compared with the old monoshock model. What Indian did is answered the call of the unhappy HD Dyna bros that couldn't see themselves on the new monoshock new softails. I think Indian is taking a page from HD book make the bike more simple mechanically add some electronic cheep trinkets and charge as much as you can. I wanted the new Chief to be a naked version of the Challenger. USD forks dual discs front brakes monoshock at the back. A proper muscle cruiser motorcycle! With less weight then the Challenger and a smaller proce tag.
Yeah that's what I thought. "This is just an Indian Dyna." It even has the Dyna Lowrider S exhaust. Yawn. Softail's are better. We don't need another Dyna. It's dead for a reason.
They made the Street Bob that Harley should have made... the only thing I’m concerned about is the suspension. 3 inches of travel just isn’t going to do it. Perhaps the aftermarket will have a solution
I think they should have went with a mono-shock. Other than that this bike is a Victory Judge or Gunner with a Indian tank and engine. I own a Judge and it was ahead of its time for dark horse styling with the Matt nuclear sunset color against Matt black. I still get compliments. Seeing the four gallon tank on this bike is better styling than a five gallon. The bobbed rear fender looks great. Like my Judge I'm still partial to the fat front tire and wide forks.
@@markmoore3288 didnt he say the indian was around 90hp or something like that? Not sure what makes you think that would make the 114 irrelevant. Especially when you can do further work to the 114 where as if you buy the indian, youre done. I got the 128 bb kit on my street bob and ill fuckin smoke any indian
@@jimibones178 what makes you think you can upgrade the Harley but not the Indian. Just because your non stock bike is faster then a stock bike doesn’t mean it’s faster. Apples to oranges
My one dissapointment in my street bob was the lack of gps. Obviously i can use my phone, but i would have been much happier with a stock touch screen like the one here
These modern looks will appeal to a larger section of potential buyers than the looks of the previous gen models.. I wonder how one can bear with the heat produced by such massive aircooled motorcycles !
I tried a water-cooled Scout once : man, it was hot ! Hotter than my staged-one Blackline I would nearly say (apart from the boiling oil-tank under the seat of my Softail for sure...)
The dark horse looks stunning! I can't fault any of it (apart from maybe the weight). I'd fit a sprung seat and then it doesn't matter about stiff rear shocks. It would look better for it too. Awesome. Turns harleys into a bit of a joke tbh....
A bit dissapointed it’s still just a single disc at the front at this price. But their more expensive american brother is guilty of the same crime so...
That’s why they kept the single disc. No reason to add it unless Harley adds the two disc in the front for their basic softails , they can easily add it in. But for the higher prices of the Chief I’m surprised they don’t have them on
I can't imagine it would cost that much to add rear disc breaks, disappointing to see them cut corners just because they can get away with it. Its enough to make me wonder where else corners are cut, and reconsider purchasing one
They made a bigger Scout. Should have went with a mono shock in the rear. Harley has even gotten away from the dual shocks. No inverted forks. Polaris had the perfect bike it was called Victory. The XR and XC bikes were awesome.
I hoped Indian would produce a "Dyna" with the FTR motor but I think they hit it perfect with this very tempted but stupid price in UK due to increased import tariffs
I think the potencial is great, even though the looks are little bit Japan-esque (Bolt or Rebel). The question Is whether potential customers are willing to postpone the purchase of HD Street bob 114 before testriding the Chief. Still, keep at it Indian!
I like the leaner look of the new cruisers. But the cylinder head looks, strange as hell to me. I like the look of the scout much better when it comes to that! The 108 is cool as hell. Kind of a mix between the techno look of the Scout engines, and the fat look of the 116’s. If it was up to me, that’s the engine I would put in a cruiser, for looks anyway!
Scout looks nicer but the features of the chief with integrated touch screen are nice, not a fan of the bars, think I would swap with some mini apes,if they had a touring oem windscreen as they offer for the scout it would look perfect
Sorry I should have been clearer. You can get the non dark horse version of the chief and chief bobber with the 111, or the dark horse versions with the 116. Then there’s a super chief 111 and a super chief limited 116. The US get all 6 options, but in Europe etc we just get the dark horses and limited, all of which are 116
Absolutely beautiful bikes, happily have the dark horse! But I don’t agree with your statement about these bikes having an affordable starting price. A £6-7k bike falls into that category. When a bike’s starting price becomes equivalent to the price of some cars, that’s premium pricing
