I love that you addressed the enthusiasts vs. actual buyers. You’re so right about that Zach. I wasn’t considering this car at all, but it’s seriously growing on me.
Swapped my VW Atlas Cross Sport for the new SEL R Line Tig and it is night and day. Had a 2018 Tiguan and HATED it but this 2022 is perfection. Whatever tweaks to the motor and transmission they done has greatly improved the driving.
Ya'll are absolutely right about the Rav 4. I work for a Toyota dealership and I find all of their cars to be boring. The only one I like is the Venza. So I'm in the market for a new vehicle soon and torn between the Tiguan and the Cx5. I absolutely dislike that tablet infotainment sticking out of the dash on most vehicles.
I have brought a Tiguan .. it is actually fast but when we drive it doesn’t feel like it’s fast .. when I look at the odometer it’s at 75mph .. it may be because of the heaviness .. Car doesn’t feel like it’s going at high speed due to its build quality .. But when we drive a RAV4 we feel like it’s going fast even at 65 mph also I drove CRV .... May be because of japenese build quality .. I even cross checked with speedometer in my phone … it is actually fast … but inside the car it doesn’t feel like … Its a damn smoother ride than other cars .. Trust me guys … Give it a test drive of the car .. that’s my opinion on this car.. and drive quality of Volkswagen is pretty good on highways …
My wife got the Tiguan because it’s versatile sliding second row meant we could push it up all the way for our two dogs. That was honestly the most important thing for her, something the others in class couldn’t do, except for the smaller Escape. On top of that, it drives really well, like a taller Golf - only the CX-5 impressed me more on that mark. And thankfully, I can stretch my legs out pretty well while driving, much more than the Japanese conception. The real standout surprise was the fuel economy, I can often destroy the EPA estimate and get 6.6-6.8 l/100km on my way to work. It’s a great car, but I’m hoping we see hybrid tech soon to boost those numbers even more. I could take or leave the other changes on the refresh, except for the added seat heating and cooling.
I'm a proud owner of a '21 Tiguan R Line Black and I've never understood the knock on this vehicle that it's low on power. I find that it's very quick and punchy. It's interesting that you find the engine to be more refined now. Great review guys!
Off the line it’s good, but on the move in a 90km/h zone, this engine doesn’t want to move faster. My alltrack was quicker with the dsg. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad just average.
We recently bought a 22 Tiguan R Line Black Edition and we LOVE IT, I wish it would be more refined though, I find there's a ton of engine noise on the inside and it's loud, but other than that I've got almost no other complaints!
You guys earned my sub from the MDX review. Very informative plus a few jokes here and there. Your videos are at the right length. Not too long that they bore us with stats but not too short that we lack information. I extremely like how you guys compare different vehicles in the class and give honest opinions so we can make our decision easier. Thank you for your great work.
Wow, thank you so much, we really appreciate the kind words. So glad you subscribed after our MDX review and that you found us. Happy you are enjoying our reviews.
My wife recently upgraded from an '18 Tiguan SE, to a '22 Tiguan SE in Atlantic Blue, and VW has really stepped up their game. I agree that it drives and handles leaps and bounds over the '18. The improvements in the interior are really well appointed. The gearshift took some time to get used to having the PRND on the knob and not on the center console beside it. The hepatic HVAC controls are ok. You can slide them with your finger but it lags a bit, so it's just better to tap it with you finger tip. The controls on the steering wheel is not hepatic, like the R-Line, and are easier to operate because they still retain the tactile buttons. The front end has a more aggressive look to it and the LED headlights are simply outstanding. Overall, the '22 is well worth owning, and I know my wife will be an owner for years to come. As for me, I have an '18 Atlas SE w/Tech and hope to upgrade to a '22 sometime here in the near future.
We've been debating between the Audi Q3 and the Tiguan for a while now. The issues were that the Q3 is less spacious than we'd like and the Tiguan was a bit sluggish at highway speeds as many had noted (we test-drove both). However, we're thrilled to learn about the major improvement to the driving dynamics. I think this just helped us decide! Now it's time to decide between Comfortline and Comfortline R-Line! Thank you so much and you guys are awesome! Enjoy Niagara on the Lake - try the Brock's Monument (Tower) and Fort George if you get time.
@James Short the more conservative tuners are APR and GIAC Google the dealer nearest you. About 10 years ago i had an ECU reflash on my Audi A4 claimed to have added 40HP and 50 lbs-ft torque. Don't know if that was achieved but could definitely feel the difference in response throughout the rev range. Car had 2 years of warranty left when installed and ran for another 90,000 Km trouble free. It does void the engine warranty but if a non engine issue develops manufacturer still honors the rest of the warranty. Some dealers sold the tune and would probably help out with warranty issues - can't say for sure cuz I didn't have any. The tune raises turbo boost pressure which is controlled by how hard you accelerate I didn't see any measurable change in fuel economy.
You are absolutely right. Most buyers opt for fully loaded R-Line, as its body kit and wheels look so much better than other "Lines". Sorento is Tiguan's most direct rival in this class of 7-seating compact to mid-size tweeter SUV. While Sorento offers better value and reliability, Tiguan handles sportier and has the cachet of a German badge. BTW, take care during B.C's havoc rain and windstorm. It has been really wild on both days.
Great review. I feel that Volkswagen tends to have a very stoic looking design language on all of their vehicles. And when I purchased my Wife’s VW... it was the design (in/out) and that amazing Fender Audio System that sealed the deal. Thanks for the video and the tour of Niagara-on-the-Lake (a personal favourite).
VW needs to bring the R models of the Tiguan and Arteon to North America. I traded in my Golf R for an Acura RDX this summer but would have stayed with VW if the Tiguan R was available. The R-line appearance package just isn’t enough for me. It’s a shame because the new Tiguan looks great! My wife has a 2020 so the new improvements you mentioned are a good sign for when she is ready to upgrade down the road.
Great review and welcome to my neck of the woods! The roads just south west of NOTL in Twenty Valley are just as picturest and offer some wonderful wineries as well! Safe travels!
You are both so informative. I appreciate you extensive research on every vehicule you try. I just bought a Chevrolet Trailblazer RS 2022. Very satisfied.
The Santa Fe went with the lever/switch shifter to move from Park, Neutral, Drive …. and the Tiguan has the regular knob shifter. I prefer the old school knob shifter because it’s what I’m used to.
Agreed, keep the Fender Audio system in all the cars! I'm surprised you guys are saying it's improved. It was sluggish when I tried a few years ago. They should listen to enthusiasts it only betters the cars for everyone since most people don't know anything when purchasing their cars which is scary. That Tuscan interior looks horrible to me. The Tiguan looks better despite my dislike for the digital cockpit.
I’ve never driven Tiguan, but it’s 4000lbs with a driver in it. I think it needs more power. 184 hp is at 6000 rpm……..I’m thinking not many people get to 6000 rpm for too long. Great review ! 👍 It looks good though 😎
The numbers don’t tell the whole story. It feels faster than the horsepower would suggest, I suspect because of the turbo and over 200 lb ft of torque. It’s also relatively quiet.
Great review guys! Greetings from Russia. I really like this car looks and interior, very classy and will age well. My sister recently bought a facelift small wheel base Tiguan in a beautifull ruby red color with 1.4tsi (150ps) DSG 4motion powertrain close to one you reviewed on Taos. Here there are also an option of 2.0tsi (180ps) and 2.0tsi (220ps) both with DSG too. Dont know why you dont get the last one, considering all other brands seems to offer a more powerfull verisions of simular cars for NA market then for Europe and Asia. Interestingly swb Tiguan is a very popular choise here, it closely competes with Rav4 for the best selling suv in its class.
I really do like your reviews. The two of you obviously do your homework and provide excellent reviews. My question is why don’t you ever address reliability? That strikes me as a glaring omission.
Hi, Andrea. You are a great presentor ! Questions: 1. We live in the middle east. here the Tiguan comes in three models: (1) LIFE 1.5 Litter / 150 hp. (2) LIFE PLUS 1.5 Litter / 150 hp and (3) LIFE PLUS 2.0 Litter / 190 hp. As I am searching an optimal SUV which has best comfortability / great shock absorbers and fun to drive. Competition is there with many good car makers. What is your suggestion ? 2. Please also relate in your answer to gasoline consumption. I guess number (3) will be the not so good on it's milage. 3. Any comments about the robotic Transmission system? some rumors say it may be problematic. 4. How come TOP GEAR reviews gave Tiguan 7 out of 10 points? they mention that it has a problematic touch - sensitive climate control. Appreciate your respond.
Thank you very much for all your amazing videos I have a question on the Audi Q3. If I purchase the base model will it come with all the necessary features that I pretty much need for my basic car. The leather seats moonroof all the technology to keep the car safe can you please tell me if it comes with all the basic necessaries that I need to purchase this Audi Q3.
I drove the 2022 Tiguan SE white with panoramic sun roof last week at Mckenna Volkswagen in Cerritos. I like how it drive but the interior looks cheap, a lot of hard plastic. I went to the next door Mazda, sat down on the 2022 CX 5 GT and the 21 CX 30 Premium. The Mazda driving dynamic and the interior is what sold us to get the Mazda. My wife ended up getting the 21 CX 30 Premium for 32k. The Mazda CX 30 drives better than my SUV costing 25k more. Wife wants sub-compact SUV since we already have a compact SUV.
WOW so glad that I found your comment as I am hesitating exactly between Tiguan SE and CX30 premium now!!! May I ask how your wife's driving experience has been so far? Thanks!!
Great video guys, really enjoyed it. Some really good information and easy to follow. Love the fact both of you do the review which makes it feel natural. I have the older Tiguan escape model. You've just got yourselves another subscriber, looking forward to more of your videos, keep it up guys. 😁👍
I bought the comfortline and I’m very disappointed. The thing lags 1-2seconds when first applying the accelerator, it’s like it doesn’t shift into first soon enough then shifts to second to soon. Not a pleasant experience. Plus when starting off in the morning it sputters and almost quits. I’ve only had it a few days and it’s been in the VW garage, which found nothing, of course, but they are thinking of it and interested in the problem. I’m still getting lots of glitches. I hate having to reset, in cold weather, the climate controls every time you get in. Anyone know if putting the climate control on auto works in winter? But I have to say I’m falling in love with the handling it’s like an Audi. Comfortable and spacious.
Oh mann... This looks great, I had a Tiguan before and loved it. We're looking to down size our Atlas and this seems like a good alternative. Get some discount since I'm a VW owner.
Enjoyed the video and the review. Just have to remember to watch out when I am driving on curvy roads and you are coming from the other direction into a left hand turn. LOL
Awesome video! This is kind of classic boxing vehicle with nice interior design. Just wish they included the hybrid. My biggest question is Why “R” line seem more common all car manufacturers?
Perhaps they didn’t mention the CX-5 because the CX-50 was announced today. VW is not allowed to sell its nicest or most efficient vehicles in North America.
Love your reviews you guys don't just get in and go a 100 mph (sorry I'm in the states ) and talk about how fast it is, but I question the reliability of vw
They're usually good cars, but definitely had their fuck ups. We just picked up a 2018 Atlas VR6 l, because the 4 is the one to stay away from. The VR6 also has an Aisin transmission, which are very well made. But Scotty Kilmer would still call it a piece of crap, because that same transmission isnt in a Toyota.
What always bothers me, in Auto Manufacturers; In order to try to get around the MPG numbers, they would rather decrease power in an engine to find its efficiency. Than to be innovative and find it by way of technology.. Other than that, PUT IT IN "S" for Subscribe, people lol.
Great Review once again and kudos to both of you! Can you guys tell me which one offers more space with all the sit down on the back from crv rav4 tuscon vw and rogue as far as i know i believe crv is winning!
Essentially yes. Kind of like old vinyl seats. Basically all mainstream cars now what the fake leather and you have to pay more to get the real stuff. In some cases there is no option for real leather anymore.
@@krane15 Used to be this way. Not anymore. These are the makes that have leatherette on their cars as standard: MB BMW Genesis Lincoln Lexus Infiniti Acura Those are just the ones I know for sure have leatherette. Could be more, but I'm too lazy to check. I wonder how many people don't even know they have the fake stuff in their luxury rides.
I'm guessing Volkswagen engineers did some programming on the computer control unit(s), to alter transmission shifting, throttle response and engine VVT...
Hello, your video(s) are very educational. 2022 Vw tiguan top line. The 2022 Top of the line models don't have a lockable glove box, no fog with cornering lights, 8 way power passenger seat and oil and battery gauges at this price point. If the 2022 has added these features let me know. Thanks (s)
Who are we kidding 180hp for a car this size is enough? Try to take over a truck in highway 3 and lets talk then. The only reason I did not buy Tiguan was the lack of power back in 2018! Now 2022, again this will be the only reason I will not buy this car. I know that was the same reason my cousin switched to BMW after 20 years of owning VW. So I am very surprised they did not consider that to be a reason to upgrade the engine.
Ordered a new Tiguan in March, was told early October deliver, then late December delivery. Now i’ve just been told late May. So i’d say don’t order one yet until the semiconductor shortage is resolved
Guess Andrea like red wine...to go with the top. Nice ride. Looking forward to the other VW reviews on deck. As much as I like Niagara s wine region southern Quebec's is nicer imho. Cheers
I was looking at Audi A3 and a VW Taos however the Audis pricing is ridiculous and so is the TAOs an SEL TAOS for $36,000.00 when I can buy the Tiguan SEL R Line for $2,000 more and it’s a great SUV engine noise alittle loud.We also bought a 2022 outlander another great SUV a slight step up from Tiguan at a cheaper price and long warranty.
