Some numbers from Norway. BYD Han 0-100km/h 3.9sec. 521km range. 4 Wheel drive. Top speed 185km/h. Price about 64.5k US dollars. Tesla Model 3 Performance 0-100km/h 3.3sec. 547km range, Top speed 261km/h. Price about 52.5k US Dolllars. LR 4 wheel drive 0-100km/h 4.4sec.602km range. Top speed 233km/h. Price 46k US dollars.
Do push-ups or slow squats (even with no extra weight) to warm yourself up BEFORE driving around in cold weather. AND... just do that stuff anyway. My hands get cold easily, so I DO get the heated steering wheel idea. But... attempt to heat yourself up before driving in cold. I don't mean crazy workout. I mean a BIT more than you really feel like sometimes. Is that fair?
Interesting, thanks. But....no mention at all of the Atto 4 Seal? How does this Han compare to the Seal? Where does it fit in the BYD model line up? I'm assuming it's a bigger/more expensive model? And isn't the Seal meant to be coming out to Australia this year?
In the video,he mentioned the sea lion by mistake, he meant the seal, there is no sea lion to date, not even in China. Yes, it is coming, picture showing a disguised seal was spotted in Sydney not long ago, they already started road rest, pretty sure much confirmed for this year. I am also keen to oder one
@@aq3614 Thanks, missed that👍. Odd though that he didn't refer to it more, as it will be more of a direct competition to the Tesla M3. (Sorry Sam for referring to you in the third person - not sure if you read all these replies😊).
@romcom tom Could these prices be from the middlemen dealerships? In Australia, unlike Tesla, BYD don't sell direct to you. They only sell through dealerships. So the middlemen dealers have to raise the prices to get their share of the profits. Could that be the same situation in Europe?
Can I ask what exactly is keeping BYD out of North America? I keep seeing all the talk about BYD EVs, but they're not available in Canada. And I'm guessing they're not available in the US, either. So, what's keeping them out? Would love to have options other than high-priced Teslas.
The IRA makes it uncompetitive unless they invest in a factory, which they probably will at some point. But it is more economical to priortitize Europe and the rest of world. US-China growing tensions also makes it dicey.
@@dawsap1 Plus the 25% tariff on Chinese goods, so final assembly has to be in the US (15% tariff) plus the battery pack made in US (IRA). They will take the Europe and the Rest of the World first, then maybe go to the US.
If there’s one lesson to learn from the Atto 3 it’s that FWD is a bad idea on EVs. You get horrendous torque steer whenever you boot the accelerator 😮 It’s a shame the Han designers missed that memo!
The c-pillar design reminds me of a Jaguar! I don't like the look of compact and mid size SUVs, I just think they are boring and all look the same (model Y is the exception, although I think it looks like an egg). I think sedans are making a mini comeback thanks to the model 3 and I do like the look of this car from BYD.
BYD is BOMB in 2023. 1. Its going global like the sheer speed of it,- EU )SixT 100k ordr) Japan India, Israel, Costa Rica, Malaysia Philippines, Thailand 2. Check Denza brand picking insurance regstrations despite only one car D9, N7 is due coming soon 3. Volumes of Seagull means end of Tesla as largest pure maker.
Sorry but they are so high priced in Europe that they are not selling nearly any cars. Way to expensive and add high Maintenance costs and bad warranties to that.
I don't understand how they can get 380kw of power from a Blade battery pack unless it is HUGE. BYD claims the C rate for maximum discharge is only 2C if you go to Alibaba to buy Blade cells, which would mean 190kwh pack (almost Hummer pack size) to get 380kw in this Han sedan. If it was really 190kwh, then the range should be well over 1200km instead of 715km. The obvious answer is that they are understating the C rate for Blade batteries on Alibaba, so a smaller pack like 100kwh can actually be pushed to almost 4C discharge. Why would a battery seller understate the spec like that ? The other answer might be that there is a small high-discharge pack in addition to the Blade pack for acceleration to get 380kw for brief periods. I'd like to know which.
@@hargeaux Actually, every seller I've found from Alibaba to Global Source to EV battery retailers all show 2C as the max discharge rate for BYD LFP Blade batteries. I've been to BYDs own site but couldn't find a data sheet for their Blade direct from them.
@@deepseer Most batteries are advertised as "Continuous Discharge Rate" separately from "Max or Pulse Discharge Rate". Different mfrs consider "Pulse" to be 10s, 30s, or sometimes only 5s. "Continuous" for the Blade is usually shown as 0.5C and "Max" as 2C. Other mfrs claim as high as 5C for their LifePO4, so it isn't a chemistry limitation, but BYD seems cautious with its claims. Which wouldn't matter except some cells have circuitry built into the cell to limit charge and discharge rates for safety, and if BYD is artificially limiting the output of cells it sells to other people to limit its liability, that might explain it. I just wouldn't want to use their cells in an EV conversion project.
Han far more expensive in Europe. Loses in about every category to Model 3: Cost 61K vs 75K, better performance, more range, faster charging (710 vs 450), more efficient, larger trunk (561 vs 410) plus 88L frunk where the Han has NO frunk.
All this is just foreplay, give it 2-3 years when the Chinese masters EV and battery production (they are already so far ahead of everyone except tesla), you will see those cars at 25k usd with continued improved feature and performance compared to most legacy brand EVs. That will be the kill shot. The US will defend its brands by simply banning Chinese EVs to be sold or make the tax so expensive it’s unrealistic. The German luxury brands like Mercedes and BMW will be ok as they compete mostly in a different price category than the Chinese. It’s the VWs, Toyota, Honda, and Nissans that will get killed
Agreed and I think BYD dominance will gain much traction in 2023. BYD already is best selling EV in Thailand, Israel Costa Rica and New Zealand. Last month sales Denza brand is also picking up despite only having one car Denza D9, they are about to release N7 so premiums will rise too. And Seagull will consolidate volumes.
I don't like that you have not driven the car. It's does not even got 1-pedal driving. 0-100 feels bad, not the time the drivetrain. You need to test more car your self
You DON'T KNOW, why people would care for a heated steering wheel? Come on now. Get your act together please! It is an essential part of creating a comfortable experience for the driver in the winter. Heated seats and a heated steering wheel drastically reduce the need to heat up the whole internal volume of the car, plus, a heated steering wheel will let you grip the wheel comfortably almost instantly after you turn on the car while heating up the interior and the entire IP takes lots of time and energy. It is a no-brainer really, and while I understand you have not had a similar experience in Australia to us Europeans, it is pretty basic knowledge. I am truly disappointed with that comment, it is ignorant. BYD reserving that for its top trim is also a very bad idea from them, especially in the EU. If you want, you can delete this comment as well, just like you did with the one where I mentioned that you have the price all wrong. 32K USD it is not. Over 70K EUR, is more like it. Not competitive at the moment.
Beats the crap out of me why manufacturers don’t make two variants of each model. One for temperate to cold climates and one for tropical to sun-tropical climates (like Australia) This would make far more sense than the multitude of variants they make currently, none of which factor in climate variation. But what would I know? 🤔
front end on the ionic6 looks like a 1980's ford fiesta or metro Geo - crap cars anyway - they made a huge mistake there....no wonder sales are low. Look at Tesla BYD any of them. Better.
Hatchbacks and SUVs are less efficient at highway speeds due to the larger frontal area. Check out the Audi concept "pickup" that gives you the best of both worlds -- sedan aerodynamics, but cargo space and extra ground clearance when you want it.
@@kirkellis4329 Thanks, will look at that. I’ve had a great Tesla M3 LR but changed to the MY due to hatchback, better seat position, more space and no sedan Not going back to a sedan.
