Mari is back! She's an amazing presenter with a terrific eye for detail and explains things in a way that even the average person who isn't into cars can easily understand.
Great review of the eGV70. It would be nice if they carry over the chrome grille, and have the insets in black or a dark color material for the contrast. As for the back, I like the back of the gas models especially with the exhausts, really give that sportiness. Wish they could’ve done a bit more on the e model.
i had test drived the GV70 4 cylinder AWD and i i must say was very impressed with the chassis and steering ,,my only complain was for the take off turbo lag and tight rear seat leg room, as for the Electric version i would rather buy a car that was built for that purpose from scratch rather than have power unit swap and wait for the new dry battery technology due in 2025.. pleasure to see Mari is back again and those shoes are so fashionable
Yay, so good to see you back on Motor graph Ms. Cho. Hope your trip was awesome. Another great review as usual. Yeah, Genesis is a premium brand of Hyundai so that plastic grille is disappointing. Maybe carbon fiber or titanium would've been a better touch? Great to see my fav host of Motor Graph back, miss those Mari tests.😁 Cheers!
It would be nice if the grill pieces were body color. I'd put a vinyl wrap over the grill, cutting out the lines so the diamond pieces had the color since it is just crap plastic. Either color match the body color, whatever you had, or a nice contrasting or complimenting color.
First of all, grills are not even needed but I understand they are using a ICE platform so to replace it with a something similar but plastic makes sense. No need for additional weight that will take away from mileage.
Thanks for the interesting review. There is one bit of information I did not find anywhere regarding this specific model: The gas version has a towing capacity of 3500lbs, is there any word on what it is for the electric version?
Great review! I wonder if the reason Genesis used plastic for the grille is because there is no engine to cool and also to reduce weight and thus maximize range.
that's pretty much it. I actually give them kudos for giving the appearance of a grille. The one thing that always throws me off when I see the Tesla's is that they look weird with no grille and all monochrome. Eventually somebody will come up with something cool looking but in the meantime, I like the more classic looking approach Genesis is using.
another great review ! I like the design of the genesis (all of them) but I still think this 70 is more a "hatchback with some ground clearance" than a SUV. The grill is looking nice to me on video but I agree that from a metal one to a plastic one is looking cheap for a luxury brand... 2:09 I'm always amazed by how much details designer put in hiding the charging port but aren't bothered by those ugly plugs that hangs when charging... 4:18 iconic MTT ! :D (we are waiting for MFT in the future lol well some cars already have huge frunk like the Rivian or the "e"F150) 8:18 it's ok 1,72m is quite tall indeed (yup I heard right but as civilized people we won't argue on 20cm, aren't we ? :D ) 11:02 there's a glitch on the video, we cannot read the tacho... 🤔😁 13:16 on the ioniq, if you hold the left paddle you can "brake" until complete stop. I don't know if it's implemented on the Genesis since it has a one pedal mode on the 4th setting. (14:09 black bori! :3 I wish I wasn't coeliac :'( ) 14:39 love the color!!!!
Thanks for this review Mari. Do you happen to know the maximum towing capacity of this EV version? In North America the ICE version can pull 3,500 lbs. I hope the EV version can pull at least 3,000 lbs…
it maybe look like a plastic grill but seem very solid just look at the thickness of the ev charging door it look tough enough not like cheap plastic grill like on GM model like caddylac
Nice review Mari! But here in Korea, this eGV70 is crazy expensive. It would actually be cheaper, more convenient and more fun to just buy the 3.5TT; even considering the high price of gas.
@@acefr8816 Well, here, the 3.5tt is 74 million won fully loaded and the eGV70 is 98 million fully loaded. That's about 20k US. But I should also tell you that we pay more in Korea for certain models than anywhere else. Probably you'll get a better price than that. So don't be too disappointed yet. :)
@@johnholst 3.5T GV70 fully loaded is about $64k USD, so about the same price as in Korea. Assuming the ratio is the same, the eGV70 will be around $80k. I don't know how Genesis can compete with that price.
Very nice overview - this looks great - I wanted something upscale but the gv60 was too soft - the gv 70 was already very handsome - I hope this come to the States soon!
I can understand your critics on the "grill", but to be honest, every other manufacturer also uses plastics in this area and it doesn't look too bad. Also I just realized: the placement of the charge port is actually clever, because with the cables stored in the frunk, it's right there, where you need it. Otherwise you would need to go to the front, open the heavy trunk and then go back to the charge port at the rear. I really like the overall design inside and outside. With the G80 and the GV60 there are now some electric options from Genesis. But I also like it more than the GV60, because that one is too "wild" inside for my taste. Really unique cars at least here in Germany. Compliments for the exceptionally good presentation. I'm glad to watch at Korean reviewers as well. This gives a broader overall impression.
Is this based on the ICE GV70 platform, or the new EGMP platform of the Ionic 5 and EV6? I question the logic of simply converting an ICE platform to an EV vs. using a ground up EV design platform.
i mentioned this before - having the charging port on the front ? thats likely to be an expensive repair in the case of a front end collision.. why not put it on the side?
Great review. very honest pointing out pros and cons. i am considering this ev. was disappointed about the front grill. They did a great job copying the iconic Austin martin grill, but making it in plastic really kills the effect. Hopefully they will revert to the original chrome grill.
nice review Mari , there are a few things I like better on the GV60 there dash for sure I think GV70 dash looks like an after thought but for sure the GV 70 is very nice , the grill is a big let down I can see that being changed . I have an Ioniq5 on order I have tried to get a GV60 but here in Canada its a 2 year wait its taking a year to get the Ioniq5 my plan is to get on the order list then trade in the Ioniq5 in . Have you done a review on the Ioniq5 ?
Does or will the 2023 GV70 have wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto? This is one of the biggest reasons why I did not buy the 2022. Many other manufacturers already have it so I'm hoping that Genesis will have it soon. It's weird to have so much great tech but not that.
I appreciate Genesis’s effort into converting this to an EV but at the same time removing ICE components like the transmission tunnel and giving a very tiny frunk. BMW i sedans are so lazily converted in comparison.
It has nothing to do with laziness but the design brief for the vehicle. Tesla has essentially ONLY two BEV architectures (Model S/X, Model 3/Y) and has created production lines for ONLY 4 models. BMW has taken a different approach (as well as VW). Some of their BEVs are on dedicated EV architectures (by design - iX) and others are designed with mixed drivetrain propulsion in mind (new 7-series). With 10 million+ cars sold globally, everyone does not want a BEV and the new 7-series (i7, PHEV, petrol, diesel) can be produced on the same production line where the Tesla products can only offer one drivetrain propulsion on dedicated production lines. The new BMW 7-series can vary the drivetrain mix based on market demand. Tesla essentially sells one global volume product (Model 3/Y) where BMW has a much more diverse product line of vehicles (15+). Having a 'frunk/froot' impacts the visual design and similar to offering a 3rd row SUV, there will be tradeoffs incorporated in the design (for something that may not be used on a regular basis). Bottomline: Choice is good - everyone wins.
@@chrispnw2547 this has nothing to do with how Tesla makes their cars. The GV70 isn’t sitting on a dedicated EV platform either, but they got rid of the transmission tunnel on the eGV70. BMW i sedans could’ve benefited from that. It looks ridiculous to have those components in a car that doesn’t need them. Same assembly line or not. Unless there’s something else that I’m missing.
@@nebula1863 Maybe we watched a different video because Genesis did not get rid of the transmission tunnel but reduced it slightly. The BMW i sedans do not have the higher ride height of a SUV so comparisons to the GV70 is not fair IMO.
I usually very much enjoy your reviews Mari, but in this review you spent far too much time expressing your dislike of the front grille. I own a silver 2023 Electrified GV70, and I find that the grille looks really good, especially on a silver eGV70. I've had many compliments from others about how nice the front end of my eGV70 looks. Besides your front grille criticisms, I enjoyed most of the remainder of your review.
I love Mari. I don't get that cheap plastic fake grill. My 2020 Ioniq electric also had this terrible cheap plastic fake grill. They should have done something with a smooth bodycolored front panel. The GV70 looks good otherwise.
I feel like GV dropped the ball on the e model. If they had just kept the stunning design and offered a electric- and hybrid model it would have been a crowd pleaser. Now I’m back to looking at Lexus.
Hi Mari, Genesis looks really nice but it seems all Tesla models now have quicker fast speed 2.5 seconds from 0 to 60 and longer driving range as well, Genesis needs to wake up !!!
Mari is spot on about that grille. If they kept the ice grille it would be much better. That plastic turns me off the car! Real shame, nice car otherwise
I've never liked the visual distinctions that E- Vehicles get. I wish they'd just look like the fuel counterparts, but with all the electric insides. They try too hard with a lot of other brands to make them look... different, then they end up looking like some kinda ugly tron car. This E-GV70 is close to looking like the non electric version, but that grill is a no-go.
Genesis needs to build an EV this size (or GV80 sized) from the ground up rather than off an existing ICE platform. I'd love to see their version of something like the BMW iX. Ditch the phony grill in front, for starters, and get that range # closer to 400.
