E-bikes are about to get a lot more expensive as of today. A new 25% tariff will be charged on all imported bikes starting today. This tariff was in place for years, but there was an exemption made for it by politicians, and they have not renewed that exemption, so now every E-bike being imported in the United States will be subject to 25% tax on the cost of the bike. This means most or all manufacturers will have to raise their prices to compensate for the higher import tariff taxes they have to pay when they import bikes. Hopefully this won’t kill the industry entirely, as it was already starting to look a bit weak. This will definitely raise retail prices of electric bikes at a time when a lot of Americans don’t have much extra money.  Bikes that have already arrived in the United States before today will not be taxed, but any newly arriving bikes that arrive from now on will be subject to the 25% tariff import tax on bikes.
