For the USB-C mod, you should put a 5.1k resistor between CC1 and GND and another 5.1k resistor between CC2 and GND, that way it will work with all USB-PD chargers

I personally just use a cable that has a Nintendo plug and a USB-A plug to charge. If I was going to do a USB-C mod, I’d do one that replaces the old port, rather than cutting the case up.

I got a 3DS Capture Card mod which also doubles as a USB C charging mod. It's amazing and if you can afford it, I'd recommend it. Both for the charging, and for the capture.

Mini files are your friend when adding any new ports to your case. Cut the hole smaller than needed and use files to finish it off. 🤘🤘

One major 3DS mod I'd love to see is getting a bluetooth audio transmitter to work with it. Especially one with low latency AptX!

It is more than likely possible to put the QI Charging FULLY inside the case (As long as you mount the actual Charging Unit itself to the outer casing on the inner side) the difference between having it in and out are going to be very minimal and in terms of Looks, it will certainly look better.

The X1 nib is specifically a low-profile one. For replacement nubs you will probably find one that is too big and too tall. Just trying to spread the right one. It's also a super easy replacement/removal, just as he suggested. Just the screws to reveal the inner hardware and being careful when you flip it open.

Now just need a circle magnet for the wireless charging and Bluetooth Audio. TBH USB-C for data would be amazing on a hacked 3ds.

Quick tip for others interested in doing the USB C mod at home, just replace the original charging port instead of drilling a separate hole (it will still require some case drilling to make the port slightly wider but its easier and looks better), also you can buy a version that does both display and charging and its just as easy installation wise.

The numb change is easily my favorite mod for the New 3DS. Make playing with the C-stick way better! Watch out for getting second hand shell replacements. The 2 i got from Amazon had their Hinge housing snapped after a month.

I recently decided to mod my 3ds software & added a usbc i did use a smaller pcb

I actually direct change the C-stick using the PSP numb when the New 3DS XL released.

I don't know how dangerous could be for the system but you could get a rounded set of magnets and make a "mag-safe" for the wireless charging so it always aligns perfectly fine (or you could just make a DIY stand so you never miss it)

I wish we could get another true handheld that fits in your pocket

Hopefully someone already mentioned this to you, but there are several mods where you order a simple PCB from a fabricator for less than $5 and it will replace the stock change port with USB-C. The soldering is just as simple, with the catch being that you obviously need to desolder the old port. But it will come out clean with no shell cutting required. There's a small panel gap you can 3D print a cover for, or just leave it open as it's not really noticable unless you are staring at it. I'd really really recommend that you look into this before you ruin another shell.

If any of you guys have a unmodded 3ds, I would highly recommend modding it.

I made the exact same mistake with USB-C port lol. I also thought it would be a great place to fit it, but stylus won't go all the way anymore. I ended up replacing that part of the shell anyway (I kept everything else, because it's limited edition and OEM shell is far better quality), so new placement is basically the same as yours, right next to ZR button and it looks really nice. My breakout board is way smaller though (only 4 pins), but I still used some glue just to secure it. Many people replace proprietary port with Type-C, but I wanted to keep it, just in case. Also replaced C-stick with the one from Ali, looks the same and it's far more responsive. Also installed Type-C to DSi XL (next to 3.5mm jack, couldn't find a better place), Vita 1000 (a lot of space between main and left controller board) and Wii U gamepad (hated that thin cable and big power brick). Charging my phone and handhelds using same cable is huge, especially from power bank (via short USB-A to USB-C cable). Didn't need or want wireless or Type-C to Type-C charging. But you could also buy magsafe ring for easier alignment (I have it on my phone case and my powerbank is magsafe compatible). So yea, all my devices are USB-C and I LOVE it. Fairly easy, with exception of Vita 1000, which has very small pins. Nintendo consoles are noob-friendly to mod (just make sure you don't mess up positive and negative).

You could make a custom 3D printed fixture for the wireless charger to position it correctly. I'm thinking something similar to the charging dock that came with the original 3DS

Bruh I got the new cstick in today and the difference is INSANE! It’s actually like a second left stick! Super comfortable, low profile, fits like a glove, very sensitive input, and easy to install. Undeniably a must do upgrade. Thanks for the tip!

Wireless charging for switch 2 would be fire.

The C-Stick mod on a N2DSXL can blend the top screen, especially if you have a screen protector. I replaced mine with a PSP stick some years ago, and over time it started to blend. There isn't enough space for a thicker stick on that console, but it looks like the other models are fine for that.

Already did the USB C and Nub mods, and they're fantastic. Not sure if I would get much use of a wireless charger.

I think some type of screen upgrade would be amazing. Going back to the 3ds the screens look terrible. And not just in terms of resolution the image quality just doesn’t hold up like other older nintendo handhelds

I'm glad you took my advice from years ago and swapped the c stick with a psp cap. I'm very disappointed though, that neither you or anyone one else on the internet except for me made an N64 Switch dock. It's a super easy mod, and it would have been your best video to date. 🤦

if you're going to do wireless charging I'd suggest adding one of those steel rings for magsafe compatibility to make alignment easy

There's a USB C board that I installed recently and replaces the old port, and apparently it already supports USB-PD. You can also get high capacity batteries. Do you have a link for getting those Cstick nubs? My Cstick is giving me trouble and that seems like a perfect fix.

I made a video of adding Bluetooth and the same USBC charging mod too. Perfect fit. Never tried the wireless charging though since at that point why would I need a device to charge 3 different ways.

I have a Nintendo 2DS XL, hopefully the internals remain the same since I do slightly worry about the changes of internals due to different positions of game card slots, microSD, stylus, etc.

Would love to do the wireless charging mod, but I lack the tools and knowledge of soldering anything. I know it was mentioned being a beginner level project though. Might be something I look into for the future. My charge port for my N3DSXL appears bent. All 3 of my systems appeared to be this way, so my only workable option seems to be those 3DS charge docks. Just plugging in with a cable doesn't seem to work. No idea how this happened on all 3 units as I do take really good care of my systems.

iFixIt recently put out a short 4 minute video about wireless charging and all of the downsides it comes with. I personally wouldn't want the extra heat from the ineffeicent charging lowering the lifespan of my 3DS's battery in the long run. I got a replacemnet battery for my "new" 3DS XL just incase years down the line when the battery eventually goes bad, but I don't want to make that process any faster. If someone did really want wireless charging, I wonder if it would be possible to put a magsafe wireless charger in the 3DS (no idea what magnets would do to the 3DS and it's displays)

Genuinely, this just makes me ask why portable consoles didn't merge with phones when they had the chance. The DS/3DS series is literally the gaming equivalent of the samsung fold.

The wireless charging idea intrigues me. Let us know how long it takes for a full charge. I'm interested in knowing if it's worth my time. Might also look into the nub replacement. That thing is one of the design decisions Nintendo made that annoyed me, given how expensive the New 3DS XL was when I originally bought it.

I have a New 3DS Sun & Moon edition. I already softmod it last week, but I think I'll pass hardware mods, I already bought a AyaNeo Flip DS to play DS/3DS and Wii U and if I keep the 3DS it will be for collection propose only. But the wireless pad should be a great ideam usb-c too, but it seems not worth the work yet

You should have tried wireless magnetic charging instead of just regular wireless charging so that way you don't really have to be exact with how you place it down like the iPhone it would just magnetically stick on

I wonder if the DS Lite or 3DS chargers have anything else they can do besides charging because I know the original DS has audio out support. Also you don't need to wirelessly charge the device because it literally has a charging dock you just set it in and no need to modify anything. Also why do you want this kind of thing You can't play Walt's charging at the same time and yeah so I ended up not caring about it take it or leave it I don't care.

I still do not know how to get translation mods on my modded New 3DS XL to auto translate games to english. I have some japanese only cartridge games but I do not know how to get it on a modded 3ds to translate to english

I have been meaning to shell swap my standard black New 3ds Xl, and change the charging port. I really want to find a way to make the SD card more accessible without so much hassle of taking the backplate off and on, I'm pretty sure it has been done, just that it has been some time since I looked into 3ds mods. One of my favorite systems though, sadly it does not see much play anymore, but have been meaning to get back to it.
