I don’t have any problem with the male character origin but I would prefer to play as a native Japanese. If they give us the option to switch the male to a native Japanese then I will be happy as you can play two play throughs, one with each character. So I really hope they don’t do that mistake.

I mean female ninja where real. They were called Kunoishi. Shinobi even trained concubines in their ways. Also Ubi has been wanting to do a female lead for years but execs kept interfering. For instance origins was originally about Arya losing bayek and their son early on and becoming amunet and was suppose to be the sole founder of the brotherhood. Ubi said no and made them change it. They also wanted Kassandra as the only playable character. This is why alexios VA is basically using her dialogue and why his VA work was rushed cause it wasn't originally part of the plan and why Kassandra sounds better. In Valhalla they didn't even try. They knew they would get shut down for pitching a female lead so they just designed the game as having both options from the start. They also pretty originally wanted an even 50/50 split in syndicate for Evie and Jakob. But again execs said they need to make Jakob more of the focus. Hence why Evie is given less of a role in game even tho the community all agrees Jakob sucks and Evie is hands down the actual assassin and the fun one to play as. She also is not center on the box art. Jakob is. Honestly I don't give a shit if the ninja is male or female. I just want to play it. If it's good and fun then cool.

Yeah it’s a super weird choice they made, they should add the option to switch the male to a native Japanese if players want to, so they can experience the samurai vibe to cover every ones choices. I’m a big fun of (Chinese & Japanese) fantasy Wuxia dramas and films so I would love to experience the game as native character. I don’t have have any problem with the character origin or colour though, I hope I dont come a cross as a racist. I don’t normally care about the story as I just want to enjoy the gameplay and the settings so that’s why the character is important to match the setting to fully immerse on the game.

They mention the name of the Samurai but not who they are (I feel like the tester would have said if it was the case), Yasuke isn't some rare name in Japan and it's quite possible it is not the person you are thinking about, and could just be a random Samurai. Time will tell though when we get more actual info and not leaks. Best thing to do is not form an opinion on something based on leaks when it could all be completely made up. Not to mention i feel like the Yasuke thing is bait, he was not around till after the 1500s, after this games supposedly occurs according to the tester.

You played an Italian in Constantinople, a Welshman in the Caribbean, an Irishman in America, and a Norseman in England. However, the last 2 were stories of foreigners entering new lands and Yasuke would be the same as Edward and Eivor.

Yasuke annoys the piss outta me too. AC's protagonists have always been fictional. The real life historical people have always been NPCs. I wouldn't have minded if they made Yasuke an NPC like how Charles Darwin was an NPC in Syndicate, but making him the main protagonist assassin is downright disgusting. A good amount of western devs absolutely hate the Japanese, so I would not be surprised if Ubisoft has a few of those on their payroll.

Origins was kinda awful actually. Had a decent start but the story got worse after that.

Unlike Norse, Egyptian, Slavic, etc mythologies and settings which seem to come and go, Japan has always been popular. Maybe a bit overdone, but popular nevertheless. My prediction for Red is it'll be more generic slop that has a few nice ideas and good fixes to what Valhalla did, but still not feel like an AC game or a good RPG game. Ubisoft are dedicated to putting tons of effort into shit nobody wants while neglecting the things that make games good and fun. Ubisoft are in the business of making ultra profitable games and not necessarily fun or creative ones.

AC Rogue, set in north America, but you play as a Irish immigrant. AC valhalla, set in England, but you play as outsider nordmenn Vikings instead of local Celtic Britons. Were these OK with you? If so, what makes the previous instances not an issue but this one so offensive to you?

Black Flag you play as a WELSH pirate, news flash most Caribbean pirates were European men who left the navy of their respective countries, Ac Rogue you play as an Irishman in the seven years war between Britain and France, in the 17 hundreds all of Ireland was still under the rule of the British and at this time most of the white people in America were British or their parents were British, even Connor is half British, Valhalla you play as a Viking, what do Vikings do? All these character make sense because of the events taking place, there were many Italians in Constantinople in the 1500s, there were many British pirates in the Caribbean in the 1700s, there were many Irish men in the Americas in the 1700s, there were many Norwegian Vikings in England for 3 centuries. There was only one black man in Japan in the 1500s. See the difference? If the leak is true Yasuke was chosen for diversity nothing more, if they want to do the whole foreigner in another land deal they should have chosen William Addams, who was far more interesting and achieved far more then Yaskue ever did and he was an undisputed samurai unlike Yasuke.

There were female Shinobi They were called Kunoishi. They even trained concubines as Shinobi. They were known to be able to get more Intel than men could and were able to get closer to their targets much easier than men could as well. This isn't a secret. Germans and the SSR were inspired to train female spies for this exact same reasons. Also why some of the most effective spies in WW2 were women. Also studies have shown since 2020 that it is pretty even now with the number of females and males who play games. If you want to just play as a male Shinobi then there is Ghost of Tshushima. Why you so mad? You now have two options. One played as a man. The other as a woman. Get your head out your ass

I won't dispute that probably was a factor, but to be fair Yasuke is an actual historical character. And we've had games in the series before where the protagonist is a foreigner (Revelations, Valhalla, Black Flag, Rogue)

Either way, I still don’t see how having the perspective of a person in a foreign land makes a bad story or how it’s pandering. My question is this: what makes Yasuke being the protagonist any different than if William Adams was the protagonist? It would still be a non-Japanese person as the main character in Japan. I wish rise of the ronin was on PC. I played the other Team Ninja souls like and love all things stealth, ninja, Samurai and assassin. But waiting for the Ghost of Tshushima port and then AC red hopefully gets revealed this year

Because it’s so forced and breaks immersion. Anyone with a brain cell would say the same for any culture. Nobody wants to play as a German guy in Africa, or maybe a Chinese woman in Brazil. Or maybe an Irish guy with red hair in Columbia. Don’t be disingenuous. When you make a game showcasing another culture and their traditions, you should go all in. There’s a reason ghost of Tsushima is so highly rated and loved. The developers were even made ambassadors or Tsushima for how detailed and how much respect they paid to Tsushima.

Well i would Rather play as a Black guy in GTA san andreas, White american with Brown hair in Red dead, Blonde hair viking in AC vahalla, An Egyptian in AC Orgins, An american Italian in Mafia2. Its all about play as some one that captures the setting.

Also pretty sure the black leaf is gonna take inspiration from Yasuke I'm alright with some of the tweaks ubi makes to history in AC For instance one change they did on a smaller scale was in AC2. Leonardo was alive during that time period. However he was old in real life during the time the game takes place in the beginning when you meet him. In game he is young. Around ezios age. They tinkered with his age and also some of this life experiences so make it more fun to be able to use him as the inventor. Or how Jack the ripper was a failed acolyte of Jakobs and not the royal doctor. I think they'll play around with Yasuke being a sword retainer as he was in real life, but also use the stuff from comics, manga and anime that make him more of someone who usually starts as a ward, to a retainer, and then becomes his own samurai/ and sometimes just a ronin. I'm more hyped for the ninja tho. I just been wanting a ninja AC since AC2.

I do not want to play a white guy in GTA San andreas, red dead I want to play as a white American, Ac Orgins I want to play as a Egyptian, With Ac Vahalla I want to play as Viking with Blonde or red hair with Mafia I want to play as an Italian Mobster. Its all about Role play for me. With most games like Cyberpunk, Fallout and so I do not care what the characters look like.
