You don’t have to have the door FULLY OPEN. I think you will find that having the door open 75mm - 100mm open you wont get yourself a “grass bath”. I modified my lawn sweeper to stop the grass/leaves from shooting up and covering me with grass etc. Great video. 👏
Comes with the scarifier blade. Dethatch blade isn't an option in Australia for some reason. www.ryobi.com.au/garden-tools/products/details/2-x-18v-one-brushless-scarifier-tool-only-osf1835bl?list=all_products&list_name=All+Products
Same, I also want to put my order in for the adapter early :-). Love Ryobi. Starting to get a nice collection of the 40 v tools as well and that seems the way to go as I have 10k ft2 of lawn. The SunJoe has been a blessing but I highly dislike the cord. Come on Ryobi to the states.
Extremely informative and pretty fun to watch. Thanks for sharing ... I wasn't even aware of this tool. I'm impressed with just how strong it appeared to be. Cheers!!
I ended up buying the Sunjoy scarifier and loved it. Really made a difference in my grass the following year with more seed and water. I think I bought it while it was on sale at Walmart I believe for about $129 I had a hard time figuring out what the adjustment would be for the height in wrecked my grass in a couple spots and it went too low. Good video
I purchased this item a few weeks ago but haven’t opened it as I’m not sure if I like that price point (almost as much as my Ryobi mower). But after seeing your video, and one other with positive comments, I might be swayed to keep it 😌😌🤷🏼 Thanks for sharing 🎉🎉
@@DadItYourselfDIY Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind when making my decision. My yard needs a lot of work so maybe I should just bite the bullet and open it up ☺️
@@DadItYourselfDIY You can probably use a longer bungee cord so the cover is perpendicular to the lawn vs pointing upwards. That should avoid kicking up too high.
Do you regret getting the cordless battery model ? If not , does it provide enough juice and run time for your lawn? my front lawn is about 1800 -2000 sq feet, and i'm wondering if the battery version would do me just fine?
Great review! Love, love, love Ryobi products. It's the only brand we use on our lawn. Just got 2 new toys: Conversion kit for the rider and the dethatcher/aerator. We have Bermuda grass in the south. What level do you recommend for properly dethatching/aerating Bermuda grass? We have a lot of mulching debris that is smothering the grass.
I want one of these so bad because the corded versions seem like a nightmare dealing with that cord. With that being said the price of the batteries for this Ryobi are outrageous. Great video though.
Great video. I bought the Sun Joe dethatcher and it was a nightmare with the cord. I returned it. I bought the Ryobi but have yet to use it. I know it will be much better to navigate.
You did a great job. My concern is that it looks like Home Depot sells the Ryobi for more than $520 (including 2 batteries). For me, that's too much $ for something I will use 2x a year. Either I will buy and split the cost with a neighbor, or buy a corded tool. Corded seems a much cheaper option.
you dont like to use the bag on the ryobi scarifier, but then you use the lawn mower to pick up the debris, into the lawn mower bag. Isnt that the same thing? i get that the lawn mower is alittle bit bigger, but still think u could use less time overall with the scarifier bag. just keep a wheelbarrow close by.
Can’t wait for this item to be available at my local Home Depot also how to utilize the 40v 6amp batteries I already have (3) sure don’t need more batteries. Thanks for the excellent video.
You will blow it up since this unit is only an 18v unit yes it has two 18v batteries no it doesn't use both at once the red key plug has an arrow on it indicating which battery is being used. It holds two batteries but only runs on one 18v. Just like the Ryobi 18v lawnmower that's only 18v and holds two batteries and has the same res key plug one or the other.
@@DadItYourselfDIY your fucking being picking now bro what I am saying is this unit is not a fucking 36v like you keep saying it is and you will blow this up by putting any volt other that 18v to it but good luck
Hey great video. I am very new to this and I just bought one of these. Are the two blades just a matter of personal preference? For some idiotic reason I thought the power rake was for de-thatching and the scarifier was for aerating and then for overseeding. Can I just use one for both? I live in the south and I was going to aerate and seed very soon, but do I de-thatch and then overseed and then just de-thatch in the spring again. Kinda confused and was wondering if you could clear some of this up for me. I am a complete novice when it comes to this. Also, I saw your 40V conversion video and this is something you should really consider marketing and making. I know I would buy one. Thank you VERY much in advance.
No, you nailed it. I always use the scarifier blade before reseeding. To call it an aerator is a stretch, if you look at a core or slit aerator it goes significantly further into the ground.
Great video 👍 do you always have to overseed once you’ve scarified your lawn, I’ve got quite a big area to do but it’s not a problem. Regards from England 🏴
Mine got delivered from the UK on Jan 6 here in Kansas. I bought the tine attachment as well. Have six 6 amp batteries but considering the 9 amp batteries. I know you talked about in the past of 3d printing an adapter for the 40 v batteries. Is that still the plan or has things changed. I know nothing about electronic skematics of 36v vs 40v. Highly interested still as I would love to sell my corded Sunjoe and this be my goto from here on out (unless they actually come out with a 40v version)
My biggest concern would be runtime. How big of batteries (and at what price?) would be necessary to do a lawn of 1/4-1/2 acre? Yeah, an extension cord would be a pain to deal with, but at least you would get "unlimited" runtime and could finish the job without recharging or swapping batteries.
@@DadItYourselfDIY How many pairs of 4ah batteries would you estimate it would take to execute a 1/4 acre yard? I have 4 currently and the 2 that come in the kit would make 6.
That's about 10,000 Square Feet. I get 2,000 square feet out of a set of 6ah. So, conservatively, 5-6 cycles. So hopefully your first set charges, while your using your third set.
When is Milwaukee going to be finishing up their yard and garden tool selection? They got a mower, but no zero turn, no power rake, etc... let's go #millwaukeetools!
Great video, thanks. The difference between the scarifier and the rake - the scarifier actually takes out a level of thatch that you don’t want on your lawn and the rake is just a rake, it picks up all the dead stuff but doesn’t actually de-thatch? Is that the correct way to consider it? So it’s not a case of using one OR the other as you please - as they do completely different jobs? Is that right?
Sod should be easy, when you purchase it, they tell you what it is. The other is cool season fescue, bluegrass and rye are normally grown in the north, whereas, warm season grasses centipede, st augustine, and Bermuda are usually grown further south.
Reviews in the United kingdom say that the plastic wheels break off after a couple uses I hope ryobi fixes these problems before releasing in the USA because they are dragging the release date it's reaching 2 years almost.
You are correct. I looked at the Australia listing at www.ryobi.com.au/garden-tools/products/details/2-x-18v-one-brushless-scarifier-tool-only-osf1835bl?list=all_products&list_name=All+Products The power rake is not an option! But great price for tool only! You may have to order it in via Amazon UK! amzn.to/3sZ00BP
The terminology from Ryobi is not online with what most people use. There is no core aerator insert. They call the this unit an Aerator because it removes debris and let's the air in. In reality it is a power rake/scarifier.
@@DadItYourselfDIY interesting. I figured it wasn’t a core aerator, probably something smaller but basically it’s just a cordless version of my sunjoe kit (not that, being cordless isn’t a big deal. That’s the biggest pain about the sunjoe, the cord)
@@DadItYourselfDIY I was mad jealous of you having this thing, when I was fighting a cord all weekend getting the yard ready to overseed. So much for the fall release they had said
This is coming this spring per Ryobi to the US. Did you ever get the 40v adapter to work? I would love to use my 40v batteries instead! Thanks for the review and videos!
You could sharpen the scarifying blades and use as a verticutter like I did. Check my video its only 1min long. It mainly targets POA grass which grows sideways. Never used raker blade myself (which btw came with the machine) as I dont have a thatch. Thank you for the video👍
I hate to disagree, but a scarifier slices the warm season grass to promote growth. If you use a DETHATCHER system, you will RIPP OUT YOUR WARM SEASON GRASS. I know this for a fact. Someone told me to use the DETHATCHER cartridge on my warm season grass. What a mistake. I now have a DETHATCHER system to remind me of a stupid lesson learned.
The power rake is more for fescue. It's more of a DETHATCHER. The scarifier is more of a verticutter. It slices the runners to promote growth. Think of the grass runners like a worm. When you divide a worm, it is now two. Same process with grass with runners. It then starts looking like a tightly woven blanket. It gets more density or denser.it also removes thatch and allows better watering and fertilizer and nutrients to enter the ground, which is good for a healthy root system.
I love your videos but sir your not correct in the voltage on this unit. Ryobi's one plus is 18v only and their 40v is 40v only. They do not and will not ever make a unit that's 36v using two 18v batteries not to mention if you put the 18v Ryobi battery on a volt meter it's 20.8v. so you will blow this unit up if you make an adaptor.. this unit works like the 18v lawnmower two 18v batteries but only one is hooked up at any one time. Else they would have just made this on the 40v line up not sure why they didn't do that to begin with..
@@DadItYourselfDIY I link would help but the fact you don't have a video like that I've looked at you page. This unit is a 18v not a 40v your going to smoke this and so is anybody else
@@DadItYourselfDIY yup that's hardly a battery test. And it's still a 18v unit but ok that video didn't proof anything. Have fun blowing this unit up when you make your adopter.
Page 7 in the manual clearly states "Input: 36 Volt DC." The battery port is wired in series, hence why it won't run on a single battery - not enough voltage.
Jesus. "Hey leave the flap open so it doesn't clump and slow the blade" Holds it fully open and then says "you get covered in crap" And just leaves it at that. OPEN IT HALF WAY
