What I really like about this short, is that while it is "children's cartoon turned dark", it doesn't fall into the lazy traps that those types of shows usually do; we don't have excessive swearing or gore for instance, and the overarching theme of the show this could could become, seems to one of hope and optimism in the face of fear, whereas the usual overarching theme for these kinds of shows are more focused on breaking the children show characters and confronting them with grim reality as a metaphor for growing up. So yeah, this short has a really cool concept, some great horror moments that uses sound and imagery over cheap gore and jumpscares (yes please), and a surprising amount of heart (the scene where the villain cat places a coat over Pibby was so sweet and makes me think she and Pibby will develop a mother/daughter relationship) Also, if you like horror and the stuff that Adult Swim makes, have you checked out the trailer for the Uzumaki miniseries? It's been delayed because of the lockdown, but it should air next year. It's based on the three-part manga series of the same name by Junji Ito; a mangaka who is often called the japanese Stephen King, who is known for his detailed and disturbing artwork, as well as unique story concepts. The trailer doesnt reveal much; just enough to show fans that it will have the Junji Ito aesthetic, which is something that was severely lacking in the anime that was based on his stories, and was a worry a lot of fans had when the miniseries was first announced. But anyway, as just a short synopsis, Uzumaki is based around a girl named Kirie, who lives in a small mountain town, when weird and progressively supernatural events begin to happen, all of them centered around spirals, with Kirie's boyfriend Shuichi warning her that their town has been infected by the concept of spirals. The idea of spirals as a main threat doesn't sound scary, but that's where Junji Ito shines, as once you've read enough of Uzumaki, you will begin to understand how just a simple shape can be turned into a symbol of utter terror
Have been waiting for Uzumaki for YEARS! I wear Junji Ito merch in my videos occasionally, love his art even though I am not a huge fan of comics/manga in general. That Colin Stetson track for the trailer is fantastic, and I hope he does the music for the show as well! His compositions are absolutely perfect for horror stories.
@@BFLReacts Love to hear that! Yeah, I'm not a big comics or manga fan myself (for some reason I have a hard getting into that medium) but I love Junji Ito's work. You think might do reacts for Uzumaki when it releases?
IDK what I will be covering when Uzumaki drops, but since it's only supposed to be like 3 episodes I think I'll have to fit it in :) I've wanted to have my channel be both anime and western cartoons for a while, I'm just kinda knee deep in cartoons right now lol.
It also seems like it won't turn the existing characters into adult parody versions of themselves. What little we see of Fred pre-corruption makes me think that the established characters are going to be written in character and treated with respect. If it's greenlit.
Huh! I thought this would just be ‘cute thing gets gore-y’, but this actually seems cool! I only worry that it’s gonna depend too much on other IPs. But I like the story for sure!
The best thing is that it isn't just gore, it's working together facing the dark as a team and fighting for what's right. It isn't just gore and that's it. Plus the whole "learning" aspect, which parallels the beginning which pibby says learning is fun, whereas she learns what blood is, and it is not fun.
The hard part would be to get all these IP owners agree to let their characters be mutilated into a horror form. Like getting permission to include a background reference to them alone is already a tall order, let alone messing with the child-friendly branding.
can you imagine seeing Steven universe decapitating someone with his shield and s*** like that. I think it would be entertaining in an "I want to look away but I cant" kind of vibe
It has (basically) been confirmed that this will be a Full Series,as it says "in this Season" in the description, the creator is apparently "not allowed to leak anything",and the Voice actors were actually hired sometime in 2020 (and also, the Name of the show has already been copyright claimed)
I took the "in this season" part of the video description as kind of an immersion thing. Like they're treating learning with Pibby as an already existing show before it glitches and switches to a description that better fits Pibby: Apocalypse.
I did some digging and apparently, the blue sidekick's name is either Beta-Boy or Beta-Kid (I've seen both names floating around and don't know which one is "canon", though if it's Beta-Kid I think that's hilarious because he looks like John Egbert XD) and the cat lady's name is Melira. Obviously, Beta Boy is supposed to be an archetypical superhero sidekick, while Melira is meant to represent the more lovable types of cartoon villains, especially Disney villains.
How come no one noticed that the pistol that the cat villain lady shot whilst riding the Mystery Machine was either a referenece to The Joker (Batman) or The Mask? Because both held guns that, when you shot them, also had flags come out instead?'
Honestly there is talk that this series has already been in development. The show’s name was trademarked last year (in a short version) and thus year again by Adult Swim. Seems really cool. And I’d like to watch it
Stuff like this really hits me deep... so much so that seeing it once when this video dropped I nearly couldn't sleep last night it's not directly scary but there's just something about it that's traumatic to me And I'm 21 XD
probably the fact of seeing shows you grew up with and have fond memories of being distorted and warped into something barely recognizable, the feeling of losing innocence with these glitchy amalgams hitting old memories in ways you never thought of.
What I figured out is the creator Pibby, who used to be the storyboard artist for SpongeBob, so he has connections with the directors Nick and SpongeBob, which means SpongeBob could have been in Pibby/Что я понял, это создатель Пибби, который раньше был художником по раскадровке для Губки Боба, поэтому у него есть связи с режиссерами Ника и Губки Боба, что означает, что Губка Боб мог быть в Пибби
If you ever get a chance, could you react to Maya and the three on Netflix? I haven’t seen many reactions to it. It’s still pretty new and the dialogue could be a bit childish and corny, but the animation alone is enough to watch it for me.
That short was really good please adult swim make a full series of that short because I would love that despite I don't like adults one that was one of the only good things from your channel that I actually liked the other shows on your channel I like is South Park family guy which used to be on there but it's no longer on adult swim which was very sad South Park The Simpsons American dad in dragon ball Z including king of the hill are the only few shows I like including almost forgot primal close are the only shows on adult swim that I actually like
Dude this is like horror movie + child movie but they add villain in to be a hero bon bon is a "monster" Now not a cartoon character he or she is the villain it's like the cat dog but the dog want the cat to die the cat want the dog to live and have a happy family cat dog animation not the cartoon one
