There are actors and voiceover artists who are deeply troubled by this. To those people I would just like to present for your consideration, the totally blind or dyslexic child of which, I am the former. Though not a child anymore. The blind or dyslexic child who needs a textbook for school, or who wants to read something for which there is no audiobook, and though you may think audiobooks are more prevalent than they used to be, and they are, there are way more books than there are recordings. All we have had for decades are robot. Voices very similar to what you hear if you talk to Siri. With this application in particular, you have the most realistic life like sounding recordings, a machine has ever made. I am a voice actor. I don’t ever want to see human actors be replaced, but there is certainly a place for this technology because it literally could change the lives of people who otherwise would never be able to get a book that they want in a way that is fulfilling to them.
