A new AI tool in Photoshop starting with version 25.9 has largely gone unnoticed, but it can do fast and flexible adjustments. I break it down in this video to show what you can do with it, the advantages, and some of its pitfalls. Below are links mentioned in the video:

This old dog learned a couple new tricks. I tried it on a property listing today and got some nice results. Will add to my toolbox! Thanks

I did not know about those adjustment brush tool changes, nice! I have been doing something similar in ACR, but this is could be much faster without jumping in and out of ACR. Though I do tend to also remove the yellow/red color casts from under the rooflines. This can be done through the color mixer in ACR (sat) or a Hue/Sat layer using this method. Good find Nathan.

I don't currently do RE shoots but follow you - GLAD I DO!!! I've played with this brush a bit but your example can be EXTREMELY VALUABLE IN LANDSCAPE AND SOME PORTRAIT SHOTS! Many thanks!!!!!

thank you very nice video. will def try this today. I am still waiting for that aha moment with ai where we can do windows and darken the outside to make the windows pop but not darken the blinds or affect the blinds infront the windows
@NathanCoolPhoto
@NathanCoolPhoto Месяц назад
Thanks! But that won't likely ever happen. The problem with AI window pulls is similar to AI trying to handle HDR: dynamic range doesn't detect areas, and area detection doesn't detect dynamic range. The effort to blend those two into an AI system could "theoretically" be doable, but the cost at getting there for a limited niche that is solved with simpler steps wouldn't be worth a company to invest their resources. This is the crux of why AI won't replace real estate photographers: it's less expensive (and easier) to hire a real estate photographer than it is to spend millions of dollars on a tech that few would pay for. In other words: we're cheaper than robots 😊

I wouldn't say it as unnoticed. When Adobe came out on with it on beta, a lot of people complained about the creation of this tool, Adobe was spending time on a tool not needed, few adjustments options, Adobe this and that. I allways think that this Brush as a great potential, and with the object selection capability added to it, o yes even more useful Glad that Adobe didn't pull this one out😊

Is there a benefit using the eraser tool on a mask as opposed to a black brush? Like at 8:42, you're using the eraser tool. Wouldn't using a black brush give the same result?
@NathanCoolPhoto
@NathanCoolPhoto Месяц назад
Since PS is such a versatile tool, it's flexible enough that users can apply a variety of techniques, each suited to their preference. In other words: 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other ☺ You can quickly switch between brush and eraser by just pressing B and E on your keyboard, but if you feel more comfortable changing brush color, then use X to toggle fore- to back-ground color. I prefer to know what tool, and thus intention, I'm working with, so I prefer to use the methods I show here: B&E, not X.

I'm on PS 25.9 and the brush does not have Adjustment Brush yet, maybe on the next update
@NathanCoolPhoto
@NathanCoolPhoto Месяц назад
Do you also have a beta version installed? If so, there could be a conflict so uninstall the beta. Also, check your creative cloud app for updates.
@msagliocco
@msagliocco Месяц назад
@@NathanCoolPhoto hi no beta but found a solution. You have search for it under help and then it appears above the 3 little dots near the "zoom" tool. From there you have to edit the tool bar and assign the Adjustment Brush to the Brush group. Yes a little crazy but there had to be a way.
@NathanCoolPhoto
@NathanCoolPhoto Месяц назад
That is odd. Do you perhaps have 3rd-party brushes installed, or did you at one point create any custom brushes? Also, there is a "Restore Defaults" button on the toolbar edit dialog, so I'm wondering if that would have done the trick. By default, starting with 25.9, the Adjustment Brush should be in the toolbar.

Looks like if I forget or don’t do masking in Lightroom this is very similar.
@NathanCoolPhoto
@NathanCoolPhoto Месяц назад
To some extent, but masking in PS is often easier and more flexible. And, if you save your work as PSD files, then it's easier to archive than relying on LrC's catalogs. I'm not a big fan of LrC's masking, but I use masking daily in PS. There's just so much more you can do in PS than LrC.

@NathanCoolPhoto
@NathanCoolPhoto Месяц назад

@jesperjee
@jesperjee Месяц назад
@@NathanCoolPhoto Sorry. Yes when I choose for example brightness and contrast and put my cursor over an area, no selection is shown but if I click the adjustment affects a selected area if that make sense?
@NathanCoolPhoto
@NathanCoolPhoto Месяц назад
@@jesperjee You might try a different image, it may be that PS is having a hard time detecting it. Also make sure to toggle off and on the selection icon I show in the video, which is crucial to make this work. Lastly, with the selection icon on, you can drag it over an area and it will create a rectangle that will auto-detect objects in that area. See if any of those work.
