Thank you, as ever, for all the kind comments. Just to address the MANY watch questions! It’s a Swatch Neon Flash Arrow - basically a recent re-release of a ‘90s design. (Bought with my own money, but in an airport because I like a bargain!). Hope it didn’t distract too much from the cars in the film…
ah hank, you've stolen my thunder! i was gonna ask -about the watch that is...re the car? seems to suffer from the "new nsx syndrome", which is to say, waaaay too complicated for it's own good! cheers, your friend tk
The Pro version certaintly doesn't feel as special as the previous gen. A little more horsepower and no difference in the suspension, geometry. I wonder how much lighter the Pro is than the standard car. I think the 'normal' AMG GT 63 version is the one to get
I thought the same initially, but then remembered that the only Pro version we had on the previous gen was a Pro version of the GT-R (whereas this is a Pro version of a regular GT). I feel like I’m confusing myself just typing this but hopefully that makes sense! Hope fully there will be an R version as well (and then a Pro version of that!).
this pro version can hold 295s in the front.. that's a foot nearly. up from 275s, that's not even talking about the rear which standard is 325... could hold a 345+
Hagerty's best, Henry and Jason. This channel deserves waaaay more subscriptions that 3 million. Always a treat to watch every episode. Thanks, Hagerty! And thank you, Henry! Very insightful review. Interesting to see your take on hybridasation of AMG cars.
@@grigorioschristodoulou5229 Strangely I think the opposite. I agree that it’s not close to the old R Pro, but is suspect there will be an R (and probably an R Pro) in the future with this gen. This Pro seems to have really focused in on what is actually required to make the standard 63 work on track - which is cooling. A diff cooler is a pretty hard sell from a marketing perspective! If Porsche offered a Carrera with sports seats up front, no rear seats, PCCB, better cooling and serious tyres I suspect people would look at it differently. Just my twopence!
@@HenryCatchpole Fair point, maybe I shouldn’t be comparing it to the R Pro. They basically add back in what the beancounters took away, for an ok price. They are welcome upgrades over the “standard” 63, but the price is already so eye-wateringly high that you can get into much more bespoke sports- and super cars. I know it posts crazy fast lap times, but that’s about it. I would go find a Project 8 if I wanted an AWD track tool for that money. That car has proper clubsport/racecar hardware. Wish they had done a bit more, with some CF panels, proper buckets (either Recaro PP or something gorgeous like the CSL/Aston carbon items) and different suspension and unique calibration, so the car feels special also on the road. You can let us know when you drive it on public roads, but I bet it will lack the special feeling and magic sparkle of cars like the GT R, M2 CS etc.
If you have this car in your collection for 25 years and has been well cherished, then a major fault with the computer system with the active suspension or the hybrid system. Who is going to fix it? Mercedes won't, parts won't be available, technicians would have to try and study the archives. Most technicians are around 25 years old! I can't see the advancements in technology working out well for future classic cars.
This argument is just old. Have you noticed a growing number of EV shops around the time we questioned how we can repair EVs? We’ll figure out how to fix these newer techs as technicians learn and grow. Same way we figured out how to repair older supercars as their parts became discontinued. Jay Leno even showed off 3D printing car parts years ago in his own garage. I don’t understand why so many people keep perpetuating a false assumption that the common man is limited to their bag of archaic tools and can’t grow. How do you think performance shops have been jailbreaking/remapping and modifying brand new supercars? How do you think Macbooks get repaired at independent shops at a component level when they’re no longer covered by warranty? Sure, your old wrench and hammer won’t be able to do every little thing, but keep in mind that your unwillingness to learn and grow doesn’t apply to everyone else. YOU won’t fix it, but someone else will. If you don’t like it, buy an old Beetle.
@@NutellaCrepe Well put. I've been saying the same thing to anyone that makes the argument OP makes for ages now, mostly in the comments of Jay Leno's videos since he is the only high profile automotive personality that has continually spewed that negative, alarmist view. It's especially annoying because a few of his guests have even pushed back when he's said it, like Bisimoto, by explaining to Jay that there already exist many tools to modify, repair and tinker with EVs and other new technologies found in modern vehicles, but Jay just seems to ignore those logical retorts, or may be he's just subconsciously forcing himself to forget hearing them because he's in denial about genuinely not wanting to learn about new technology. After all, change is inherently scary for humans, and sometimes people get too far stuck in the ways they are familiar with, even to the point that they become completely irrational and detached from reality.
It sounded like Henry was doing his best to say positive things but inside the car didn't do much for him. Only he knows, it's just the vibe that I got. I think the car looks pretty in video and probably very cool in person when the proportions really hit you. However, it seems like most new cars today that are overweight, over complicated, and overly expensive. Thank goodness for older cars!
An impressive beast, this latest iteration from AMG. You were alluding to whom is it adressed to. Obviously AMG fans, and probably only them. These very specific and complex GTs have their followers, just like 911s have theirs, and the same goes for Mustangs, Corvettes and a few others. They certainly add spice in the automotive panorama and we are thankful that enthusiasts and connaisseurs such as yourself can share them with us. Long live Hagerty and Henry Catchpole 💪🏻😎
I love the conversation between Bernd and Henry about the different track elevations, compressions, where to lift and trail brake. It's like riding along a track day at a new track.
Weirdest thing. I just watched Throttle House's new review video of the AMG S63 before this video, and it ends with the exact same music that this video starts with. Excellent unintentional tie-in!
@@HABO2210 Lol yeah, compare to the 911 hybrid which is only 100 lbs heavier than pure ice version and seems like a way better car to buy than this. Seems like AMG gave up on making a real sports car but I don't know why.
One of the nicest looking Mercedes-Benz vehicles ever made IMO. And I love the non-integrated iPad style infotainment screen. Visually it might not please certain people as it's not well integrated into the dash, But It's placement and distance from the driver, and The MBUX user experience is phenomenal!
I also like it but they should really have kept the climate and volume controls as physical buttons. As someone who owns a different MB with the same style pad. The volume control slider is annoying and difficult to get it to the level you want. However they could have still made it flush with the screen but just as physical buttons and that would have been best.
Nice video, thx to the team. We all should be happy tha companys like Mercedes still put a lot of monney and menpower into the development of this kind of cars, they wont make too much Euros with it. Its a showcase of engeneers skills and kind of fun. Some rich people will buy it and this pays the development costs. Good for all
@@aussie2uGA as a matter of fact, some neons are rarer than the omega collab. There are some Neon colours that are very rare and highly sought after. The watch market is a little crazy.
Very nice 😎… seen a few at local dealerships here around L.A. & it’s the only other AMG that’s caught my attention since my 212 S… still wish I’d ran across you that winter when you were out here testing that RS7 Henry 😁. It’s a clean coupe that puts me in mind of the XKR-S, that said, the only improvement i can see is more power: all AMG S models should get the GT sedan’s spec engine.
Henry…a masterful review as always. This is a wonderful car for us mere mortals…it has abilities way beyond more drivers and is vastly faster than can be truly used on public roads so in my books, it is wonderful but Collectors will go for the earlier car in a blink. Will SHMEE but one?….i don’t think he will this time…but if I win the lottery then I will take this car anytime and wonder if I ever will be able to find any “shortcomings”.😃😃
Great review of both cars. Love the watch too, not sure if that's tongue in cheek for all those who adorn expensive watches while driving cars like this....however, nice touch :) Additionally, thinking about the future serviceability of these more complex drive units, I hope Mercedes plans to somehow equip both themselves and dealers to be able to maintain these over the long haul and they do not become disposable.
just to think the m177 for this car is super conservatively tuned, you can drive to a tuning place next to you and leave with a 100hp upgrade without changing a single thing, well maybe the intakes
I think it looks great! That color and those wheels (and their color) too. That whole spec is perfect IMO. But I HATE this trend of just slapping a giant iPad in the center of every dang car!
Just like the new Porsche 911 and Lamborghini Temerario, this new AMG GT is applying the same tech that the 2nd gen ACURA NSX did 8 years ago!! The Japanese deserve an award for their forward thinking.
Mercedes done makinge great building grand tourer with it's new GT, but if you are looking for sportscar first generation is much better😊❤ Henry another great video by you present cars and their driving experience in the way that as viewer i feel like im driving 😊😊❤❤ keep up with great job
Okay as a Porsche fan, I hate that I think this looks a lot better even with that wing (I dislike wings on road cars) and those fake vents. I just hope the future, sportier versions stick with dials for volume and AC. Kinda like the three dial format on Audi R8 deci-something. Edit: Audi R8 Decennium
Great review, loved the track drive with the 63 Pro version. I still hope AMG will make a light track focused version, as the previous gen GT was much lighter and felt pretty brutal to drive, it was a proper sports car, whereas the new GT seems more like a sporty grand tourer now.
