Just for reference the future viewers: I was the one who initially had this conversation with Bahamut in regards to RetroAchievements. As it stands currently, there is no current block. There will be at some point, at least according to that conversation, but right now it's in a grey area. The team isn't untracking people for using it, but it's very unlikely that you'll be able to get anything manually unlocked simply because there's no tools to assess whether or not you actually completed an achievement other than your save file. As for the future: Trixarian, one of the developers for Nether, has stated that a PCSX2 port for Android is necessary at this point, and made a point to say that RetroAchievements is a factor in that, so we'll more than likely see something new come to flourish in the not-so-distant future.
i get people wanting new non-h700 devices but honestly, they're really capable and i think everyone in the space owns at least one if not two. they're cool and varied so everyone can find something that works for them. they actually made for really good go to gifts for a couple of good friend's birthdays and whatnots. one got a 28 because they saw mine and liked the pocketability, another got a 35h for the bigger screen and my little bro got a 35sp cause he's a hipster little twerp that likes retro and urban wear aesthetics lol. it's getting abit out of hand admittedly but i personally really love how flexible the line is.
People don't respect how Anbernic is providing everyone a dream device of their choice, especially if they only play GB, GBC or GBA. You can either grab a modern version of a console of your childhood, or just pick the device that fits your preferences the most. It's great.
Well said. Joey makes a good point about there needing to e a new generation of chips to really push things forwards. But I agree with you 100% - Anbernic are squeezing every last drop out of the H700 and doing a fine job. The H, SP, Plus, 28xx, 40... these are some of the best value 'things' going.

You know me, sir. This RetroAchievement business is straight up devaluing my Odins - I can't commit to another high-end android handheld without assurance that PS2 can keep working (and GCN is coming). Hopefully we get a silver lining of this bubbling up causing folks to take PS2 emu seriously on Android.

For all those who are complaining about all the H700 devices coming out. Here's an option for u, don't buy it. This could be someone's ideal handheld, and this device is for them. We are basically living in the golden age of retro handhelds. So, pick the one that is for u. No one is forcing u to buy anything. And if this one doesn't tickle your fancy, then just wait. They would probably be more than a handful coming out soon, anyway. Ok, cool, thanks. Bye.
I’m glad they’re sticking to the chipset tbh. More and more juice will be squeezed out of it over time. Maybe even more OS choices than we have now, it’ll encourage development which is good for us.

100%. Variety is definitely a good thing. If these devices were poorly made, I could understand the complaints, but I’m really enjoying the Anbernic XX range. I’d love to see a variant with a 3:2 screen and a 4-inch SP.
About the news, i find this a perfect way to stay up to date with related topics that would take me longer to find by myself, or even know there was something important to report, so having this is excelent. Also i can hear this in my car on the way to work, so yay! It would be too much to add all the updates that CFW do because that would take quite a while to compile + test, so having the gist is really good. (like the stick fix of the H700). About the H700 family.. well anbernic found it's workhorse, and the they are releasing models to cater to every possible need. So it's their bussines model. I cant ask for that much more for the pricerange. You can't expect perfect PSP con a 50 usd console. I do feel that there is a void on the 100 usd range tho.
The Cube but cheaper. It'll play everything I play on mine and native Pico 8 would have been nice. Plus Port Master. I really like the newscast, it sums up the week and sometimes covers something I've missed like the RG Cube xx.
I'm not a big Retro Achievement go-getter, I just like to have fun with my games. I have many devices which some have my RA credentials logged in, and some do not. But this is definitely a blow to Android gamers. Unfortunately for me, I've started playing a lot of PS2 games on my Samsung Galaxy Tab lately with Aethersx2, and I think it's one of the best ways to play PS2. The screen is a nice large 12.4 OLED display, and the games run flawlessly on it. I pair it up with a responsive wireless XBOX One controller and it's so easy to carry around with me. Battery life is amazing too, and it also has HDMI out capabilities.
Might sound uninteresting but I would love to know about firmware updates for retro devices, this way not only I know if any of my handhelds have something new to try on, but also how others are being supported by their manufacturers.
Just managed to purchase a Odin 2 mini base no thanks to you bro 😂 selling my 2 anbernics and sticking with the 2 mini and rog ally 😂 I know how to use ayn keymapper etc and Xbox mode etc just works. Not to mention the ps vita look with imo the best snapdragon chip for a long time 💯🏆🏆👊
40XX V must and needs a joystick! This is the first time i feel like you deserve one over the head. If you dont have that is just another RG35XX Plus. That is a must have, one joystick, not two, one, looks very cool, in blue.
These H700 devices are great. Powerful and have been around long enough to have great CFW's. I don't care about how quickly Anbernic releases different models of these and other chips. Options are good and we don't have to buy all of them.
I very much like the grey magic m assuming the firmware can be replaced, the lack of wifi was a huge bummer for me. I plan to gift mine to somebody for Xmas, a casual with love it
I want Anbernic to do a vertical version of the RG Cube (and maybe call it the RG Rectangle?). I have the RGB20SX and I love the screen but the build quality is mid. But I assumed the next Anbernic device would be the RG40XXSP. 😂
• Newscast Topic: "Not Jason's Chimera" The venerable R36S has received a pretty substantial "upgrade" within the past few days. Quietly the folks behind Game Console have released a new revision of the R36S that uses the R's shell with the Kinhank K36's internals and software. These new versions are being listed online as the R36S so you don't know which version you're getting until it arrives at your doorstep. I'm far from an expert on the K36, like most things, but, my understanding is that the OS is integrated and the single TF card is only for ROMs. People on the R36S subreddit have reported that so far nothing from a software standpoint made for the classic R36S will work on the chimera. A couple of physical ways to tell the difference. 1) The new one sometimes uses a green LED. 2) The new one only has one card and it's in the left slot. The classic one may only have one card, but it'll always be in the right slot. From a software standpoint, the new one runs EmuElec, like the K36, instead of ArkOS, which you can see in the settings. The boot up sequence is different as well. The splash screen that says "R36S Open Source Console" has some extra words now and the Emulation Station logo is replaced by the R36S's wreath icon. Source: the R36S subreddit. It might've been on the SBC sub too, but, unlike the Ford Motor Company I can't recall. If this is worth mentioning in the newscast please double check me. But, at $10 per GB of data, relying on it for all of my Internet access meant that certain data intensive things needed to be curtailed. I'm now the proud owner of a panda R36S thanks to the generosity of the OGTechNick channel. He has a wonderful channel focusing on affordable gaming tech. His videos are somewhat long and chill. I usually watch him when I'm trying to get my steps in for the day. I'm no longer a converted phone using peasant! Much happiness, such me. This is my first Linux handheld and first mobile anything that's not Android since I bought a PSP 3K some twelve years ago. Mine is the original style with ArkOS and two cards slots. I'm well aware that the stock cards in there are so flakey that they make Head & Shoulders scared, so I'll need to swap it pronto. If only there was a RU-vid channel with tutorials on how to do that properly... :-D The stock card is clearly dying already (I'm randomly missing box art that wasn't missing when I first got it and the boot times have gotten considerably longer) but it was healthy long enough for me to realize that I really like this thing. The screen is beautiful, the ergonomics are fine, the performance is better than adequate, and RetroArch isn't as complicated as I remembered it being on Android. Maybe it never was complicated? IDK. What I do know is that the R36S is a likeable little handheld that's worth investing the $20 or so and the time I'll need for two new good TF/MicroSD cards. The only problem I'm going to have is that I don't own a Windows machine. The public library has some; but, they used to be pretty locked down. I'm not sure if they'll let me run Rufus or an equivalent. I've read that there's a program on FDroid for Android called EtchDroid that'll let me use my phone to write the partitions I'll need. Have you, or anyone else who has inexplicably read this far, used it?
I have not, I didn't actually know there was something on Android to do that. Rufus portable should work at the library, maybe, it's portable so those usually bypass problems. Glad to have you back! I was wondering where you went :)

I remember in your Nether installation tutorial you did it the PC way and then you showed the "Do it all on Android" way with Unipatcher; an app I never would've heard of if it weren't for you. Most people just assume we all have home PCs because they have ten, you know? As a result I figured that if there was any chance that someone might've used Etch Droid and could tell me if it was any good, it would've been you. I think I'll have the good sense to try Rufus first at the library. I remember when I was a kid back in the Windows Vista days making eBoots for my PSP on the library computers. Theres only one reason for an Anbernic CubeXX: compite with the Powkiddy RGB30. And there two reasons for a squared screen handheld: (1) Old kind squared platforms (like GB); and (2) Pico-8. And I must to say that Pico-8 is a very good reason for acquire a Powkiddy RGB30, or the next CubeXX coming in three weeks. 🙊🙊
Isnt it possible to use dolphin x86 through winlator on android for retroachievements? How would the performance be on an lets say odin 2? As you are the RA handheld youtuber, could you test that out for us?

The 40xxV is obviously a knock off of the more powerful? Aya Neo Pocket🤣 DMG . They really missed a trick though, because they needed a trackpad or second stick. I'm not interested in either. The Aya Neo at least has the excuse of giving the only vertical bunch a powerful device, niche as that is. I guess there is someone out there that wanted a larger screen 35xx+ with (who wants just one stick? Who?)
Personally I wouldn’t let Retro Achievements be the defining reason for a device. The x86 devices are too big and heavy for me and use too much power compared with the Odin 2 that is so comfortable and sips power. Surely that’s more important? The RA situation with PS2/Gamecube will most likely improve sooner rather than later.
I want Odin 2 mini, cuz PS2 on my phone really charged that PS2 GameCube demand handheld demand in me. This sux. It definitely decreases the value of the premium market. It's really annoying because of all the achievements that were earned that way, Now I can't, because I didn't do so sooner on my phone. I don't even understand why. Those that were aren't going to be revoked, so it's BS. X86 isn't pocketable and Windows on ARM is encroaching. It dampens my enthusiasm for Retro Achievements a lot, which I only recently started doing with my RGSP (I know that's not affected, but thats not the point)..
It’s a bummer to see Magic X kind of pulling a retroid move with the mini m… I’ll be interested to see what chip they use in this rerelease. I’m content with the mini m I ordered but these companies just move too quickly and they handle things in a way that makes it feel like they’re trying to trick you lol
I’m confused. Why are Aether and Naether not supported? I couldn’t care less about achievements overall but I don’t get the issue with this. And what’s is the issue with android? None of this is made very clear here.
Aether and Nether aren't in development and were never supported by Retro Achievements from the beginning, they just didn't do anything about it as it wasn't clear to people.

For those of you who are die-hard RA or bust, could you please help me understand why it's so important to you? I use RA, and I enjoy using RA, but I don't find it to be a feature that "makes or breaks" a purchase decision for me. Beyond something as simple as "everyone likes what they like and everyone's different" (which is true and valid), why is it such a determining factor? Is it that you've played the same games so many times that you need something like RA to incentivize you to play the game? Is it related to spending if you're spending that much money/a little more for an x86 handheld that it ought to just do everything? Just something fun that once you had you don't want to lose? A combination of any or none of the above? Genuinely curious, not trying to give those who love RA a hard time
For me personally, it's a supplemental feature. I don't ultimately decide what games I'm going to play based on RetroAchievements, but if there are RetroAchievements for a game I want to play, I will generally get through a good portion of the set. There's certain games I am extremely close to mastering, but when I say I'm done with one, I usually don't go back. I have only really mastered 1 game in my time registered with RA. You don't need to master everything you play, or even decide what games to play based on if they have RA support.
I really don’t get this achievements thing. What is the big deal with that? Why do people care about that someone sees that they earned those trophies? The game shows them anyway, so you see them. Why do you want them tracked?
Retro Achievements are not shown internally. If a game doesn't have retro achievements then nothing is tracked at all. It's not like XBox or Playstation and it's not necessarily about showing others what you've achieved. For me, it provides a nice history of all the retro games I've played or finished over the years. It also presents new ways to play old games.
but is using slightly different chips actually better? It's not like the devices would have the same price and much more performance, rather just worse software without any real benefit

As far as we’ve come in handheld technology. The last thing I’m worried about is retro achievements believe me! I pre-order four Analog Pocket Evo’s. Can’t wait to get them. All four special edition, 24 GB.

Maybe, once you’re in the groove, get some short guest slots from some of the fan faves giving their opinions on topics. I'm shocked that PS2 android emulation is stalled. one guy stops making an emulator and the whole scene just stops. PS2 was an insanely popular console. Someone has to make a new emulator at some point. My hope is that the PCSX2 people decide to port it to android.
MagicX released their launch schedule prior to the release of the MagicX XU Mini M. The schedule even includes CPUs and other features like WiFi for the 4 handhelds coming up. Also the GDK Pixel is still active new co,ors just released
This was in reference to the Mini M specifically, and IIRC it wasn't on that list to include an upgrade right away, but I'll go double check. GKD themselves told me the Pixel is discontinued and you can also see it out of stock across retailers, it's done.
In a way, them officially blocking AetherSX2 support would be a relief. I've been so close to buying an Odin 2 Mini but it really is too expensive for me, but now this makes things a lot simpler. I'm even considering buying an RG405V, I was holding out for a more PS2-capable "ergonomic vertical that still kinda looks like an atomic purple game boy color" but capping android emulation goals at N64/DC/PSP (for now) I might actually be quite happy with the current offerings!
But if you wait long enough, isn't there ALWAYS something new and better down the pipeline?!?! if we don't look in the mirror and start checking thyself these devices will become just something else to collect.
Mine will be very late, I ordered one, no review unit. You can check out videos on the Unicorn to see what the G99 can do for PS2 - it's not great, I wouldn't buy it for that. My review will likely only be GBA focused, since that's the only reason I'm grabbing a Micro.
I have been on the fence about ordering the RG ARC-S and seeing a 40xxARC rumored is great news. I love that D-Pad and form factor, but I’m holding out for more power and possibly some analogue sticks.

But I watched A LOT of deep dives into the handheld - The chip is underpowered for a system that looks like a saturn controller and is marketed to sega fanboys. Yeah, it can play mega drive/genesis, but so can the bottom of the barrel handhelds. I’d want one that can play the legacy of sega systems, including some beefier arcade offerings. - The headphone port apparently has poor audio, as well as just the system itself The rest looks awesome, including the ergonomics. The RK556 is in so many handhelds that the only novel rhing about any of them is their form factor. - at least one analog stick would be nice.
