NEW ANTIQUE HUTCH + DECORATING FOR SPRING COTTAGE STYLE 2023 🦋 

I sleep on a bed that my grandfather made out of cherry wood. I'm 66 and I remember it from when I was a kid. When my grandma passed away, no one wanted it, so I took it.

Please don’t stop telling us the stories behind your lovely items. They are one of the main reasons I consider you one of my favorites to watch. ❤

The hutch is absolutely beautiful and looks perfect in the corner, decorated with your thrifted treasures! I think my most "treasured" furniture item is a Child's Hutch (3 ft. tall, 2 ft. wide) that my beloved grandfather built for me about 70 years ago. (I'm 73) He was a master carpenter and built this hutch out of scrap wood. It is painted a lovely shade of apple green and has pride of place in my kitchen's sitting area. On one of the shelves, I have a photo of myself sitting on my grandfather's lap.

I have an antique headboard and footboard that I display in my living room it was my great grandfather's. I used it to display a family quilt also at Christmas this year that my husbands grandmother made. I also have a antique dresser of my father's that was handed down to him from his mother's best friend. I have many of my father's antique lamps, bottles and things he collected over the years and even some of his mother's antiques as well. Absolutely love your new hutch ! 🥰

I love the back stories. When I find pieces I try to find as much info on it as I can. To me that's how we pass it on to the next generation. Love the nature wood. Beautiful

Your new old china cabinet is really beautiful and it looks just perfect where you've put it. You place everything so nicely, it's taken me years to learn how to layer and present something so nicely. I enjoy hearing your stories behind the furniture that you acquire. I have a very old sideboard that my mom gave me. Our house burnt down when I was 11 years old, neighbours were very kind and they gave us furniture to furnish our home with. This old brown painted antique sideboard was one of those pieces of furniture. I asked my mom way back then if I could have it when she didn't need it anymore. So when I was about 25 my mom gave it to me, we stripped it and gave it a clear finish and it turned out very pretty. I'm 65 now and it sits in my living room, a much loved piece.

I personally LOVE hearing the back stories of how you were able to score these pieces. Husband did a great job refinishing the piece. Cabinet turned out so sweet... especially with the blue transfer pieces. TFS...

It’s the history of them and so interesting. I absolutely love the way you and Wes are curating your home and style. Everything is so beautiful and cozy. Makes me want to hire the two of you to come makeover my entire house! Wes should definitely be offering his services to others and start his own business of refinishing pieces. Not many have the talent he has! Thirdly, the new way you have your living room is absolutely beautiful! Every piece is perfectly placed to compliment the others. It looks like it is straight from a cottage in France or England. It’s breathtaking. The new furniture piece is so beautiful in the raw wood. I’d love if you could do a video explaining the whole process. The dishes you placed inside are so perfect for the space and I love the placement in your room and the shelf above to add height. I’ve also collected, thrifted and re done many pieces over the years. In fact, my entire house is done in antique, thrifted, gifted and made over items. I love that they already have a story. One piece, actually 3 in 1, 3 shelves that can sit separately or be connected was slated for the dump by a neighbor when we were looking for something to use for books and decor. The guy asked if Ivan would help carry it to the curb for the trash. When we saw it and how nice it was, we asked if we could give it a home. They gave it to us. 24 years later we primed and painted it and it’s now not only useful, but beautiful and a favorite of ours. We were able to place the center in one room and the other 2 parts side by side in our living room.

We have a cedar chest that was made by my mom’s great uncle. We use it as a coffee table, and I have always stored my sweaters in it. I remember it being in our home since before I started school. I’m 59!

The hutch is beautiful. I always wanted a Bombay Dresser for my living room and I got a beautiful one at an auction for 75 dollars it was a steal. I redid it in a green with gold accents it turned out so much better than I thought.

I love hearing the stories behind the pieces you add to your home. I have a few furniture items that have been passed down to me from my grandparents and I just love them. I have the desk I used as a child and now my granddaughter uses it at my home for drawing and painting. That makes me so happy.

When my Granny passed away, I was blessed to bring into our home many of the beloved pieces that made her home so Incredibly Special to me. The pieces that I was blessed to receive that once belonged to her, may not have much monetary value, But to me, they are Priceless. I love all kinds of history so when you tell the story of items in your home, I find that so interesting. Also, I like where you put the recliner. It balances out the chase end of the sectional. It's such a pretty chair. My favorite furniture piece is a hutch of my mom. I remember it already as a child. Later years, she refinished it. I have a collection of reader's digest books from my mother-in-law. I put those books on the shelves on the top and I use the bottom drawers for table placemats, runners, etc. My mom has dementia now, so it's a special piece with many years of memories.

A beautiful chair that once belonged to my great great grandmother was passed down from her to my great grandmother to my grandmother, to my mother, then to me. The chair was hand carved from mahogany wood. I had the cushion recovered and enjoyed many many years with it sitting in my formal living room. In July of 2021 our baby girl moved to a place of her own and as my gift to her, I passed this cherished family heirloom down to her (with the promise she would NEVER get rid of it). ❤

I have a hutch that is very similar to the one you just shared. My husband and myself got it over 35 years ago at an antique mall. I have never stripped it down though. It matches my dinette table to a tee. I love it. Enjoy your videos and your enthusiasm.

I love how that beautiful piece came out! That raw wood is so pretty! We have my husband 's grandmother's dining room set. It's very old and I'd love to take it down to the raw wood. We have a mix of beautiful old pieces and new pieces that look vintage. I love mixing the 2. I have a beautiful antique dry sink that is one of my favorites and a couple of marble top pieces that are so special. We use one as a buffet in our dining room. The large white plate with the roses and the green leaves around it, my mom had one exactly like that she didn't have 1 she had a full set of dishes and that's been a long long time ago it brought back a wonderful memory.

Beautiful piece! I love the placement of your chair. And just a thought but, if you don't use that door, even better. What if you tried a faux tree, a curtain, a louver folding piece, or a bamboo/rattan blind to help disguise or hide the door. I think it might make your chair pop. I drug a jelly cabinet out of a trash heap! It had a rotten bottom and door and a shelf missing and was covered in about 7 layers of paint. My sweet husband rebuilt it for me and I scraped paint. My Daddy built me a hope chest/bench when I was a girl. Those two pieces are my most treasured furniture possessions.

I love the new cabinet your husband refurbished and I love the country cottage style that you are going for. I have just a couple of suggestions. I think you should take the shelf down and put the tall white cabinet in the corner and put the new piece where the white one is. It would give that side of the room some warmth. Also, I know you love dishes but it's getting a little crowded to me. What about collecting old vintage quilts, linens and just designate one of the cabinets to display them. I think that would be so pretty. I do love your style. The chair is just in the way of the door no matter if you use it or not. It just looks cramped. Just my opinion. Please don't hate and of course this is your house and you do whatever. Love your videos. Can't wait to see some gardening.

That new cabinet is stunning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh how I wish I had someone to sand and refinish furniture for me!! I have a wonderful antique sideboard I have had for 20 years,,, but the thought of all that work at my age (72) is just to much. But i envision it that raw wood look.

I recently thrifted a Wicker Rocker and refinished it for my back porch. I learned how to repair wicker (did my best!) and painted it to protect it. It has new life now and I love it.

The special piece I have is my great grandmother's sewing cabinet. It has little compartments and dowels for spools of thread. I use it as a night stand, but hope to use it one day for it's original purpose. I have been thinking of painting it for years. Maybe a white or green because it is cherry wood. Your new hutch turned out great.
