I did basic in 1971, and they always told us we had it plush and easy compared to what it used to be. I had a medical MOS, and I got to know a disabled WWI vet as a regular patient. He did basic around 1910 and had originally trained as a horse cavalry soldier. He said that he was told he had it easy in the Army compared to what it used to be...that must have been up until the time he lost an eye and an arm and had his body all twisted up. Anyway, it's an Army tradition to tell trainees they have it easy. Today's trainees will be saying the same thing to future trainees. On a side note, my basic was the hardest ever.
I think training becomes more stream lined and less hazardous over time. Which and be a good thing as long as you don't over correct. You are still trying to make a fighting machine that can fight and win wars.
For people who think that the boot camp for the army, navy, coast guard and airforce is hard and stressful, just shows proof how people in America have become soft and weak. It's disappointing and pathetic. Last time boot was hard for these services was prolly right before 2008. The Marine Corps unfortunately is now starting to lighten up.
'm not in the army but from a marketing perspective, I wouldn't be surprised if they told them to reel it back while the cameras are there in order to entice more people to enlist to make it seem easier than it is.
OG Army Vet here. Graduated in 1990 right before the first Gulf War. I can’t say I even recognize todays Army. It was definitely hard back then but we still had some Vietnam Vets hanging around who told us some horror stories. So each generation definitely has its own perspective on Boot Camp. Go Army!!!
I went to basic 2018. I had a blast the entire time and it wasn't too difficult for me since I knew what I was going into being from a military background. If anyone is wondering what basic is like... truthfully, it may suck when you're there, but when you look back, it might just be the best thing you can remember
It was always preached in the Marine Corp. that the more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war. The way you train in the field is the way you fight on the battlefield.

@@williamhammond9090 i was in boot for the Marines in, 2004 and I got chocked on the first day and another kid got stuffed in those giant plastic trash containers and the DIs showed him towards the, bulkhead and broke his two front teeth. Lol.
@Tango Down2x2x that's your retort????.....psychology 101....when a simple minded person has no useful comback.....they resort to personal attacks and or Grammer police because that's all they have to use to seem smart.....I feel bad for you. I hope things get better for you in life
@@nikkoortiz there’s still shark attacks and I never saw a stress card. That’s like some pog shit or air force stuff. When you went through it was 14 weeks, it’s 22 weeks. Every generation has said there’s was harder
Dude same boat. I have work at 5 it's midnight. I just finished "army vet reacts to boot camp 2021" because I thought that was the newest one!! Now I gotta watch this
I appreciate you saying the thing about weeding out the weak. As a disabled vet I sometimes feel like a failure for when my mind broke and I got discharged. Sometimes it is like I'm not as good as all the people who made it farther. It made me remember what it was like going across those graduation stages. Usually its only me reminding me about that. It was good to hear from a fellow veteran. Thanks bro.
Remember doing a log run in ITC, losing team had to go through the choclate factory (small ditch filled with mud and water). Once the losing team went through they made us go through anyway for not winning well enough.
I went through Covid-19 OSUT for the U.S. army. And the ways the drills are behaving and treating the trainees are 100% the way they treated everyone I graduated with.
I went through Basic in 2005, and things haven’t definitely changed. Great content! It’s good to see the younger generation keeping traditions alive. Stay safe Brother.
I went through AF basic in may 2020. It was really boring because this was when the first military policies on covid was implemented everywhere so we couldn’t do half the stuff we were supposed to do. Nobody knew what they were doing and the rules were constantly changing, but I guess that’s what happens in real combat that I don’t think they ever teach you during normal basic.
DS Summerlin…dude was hardcore. Very dedicated to his job. Everything he did was perfect. Was there every single day during my cycle. He was not soft whatsoever. I got goosebumps when I heard his voice
I went through basic in 2006. The Army has gotten soft, to tell the truth it’s embarrassing. I went to Fort Knox in Kentucky, it was very challenging, I hated it in the beginning, but then I loved it. It’s an experience you will never get anywhere else. I would definitely do it all over again if I could. I know this video is a year old. You put out some great content bud keep it up. I just recently came across your videos and enjoy watching them.
I was B 2/46 in 2007. Misery, Agony, and Heartbreak. Shark attack was essential. Drills with fresh combat in places like Ramadi and Baqubah could not have prepared us better to be soldiers in the wartime Army. We all knew we were deploying. It's why we signed up. Cheers to the 1%
As a fellow Vet who graduated BCT in 2014 I agree with you that shark tank is still needed too some degree. It sucks don't get me wrong but it's also the closest you can really get towards simulating what high stress situations are like overseas. When your in combat or a bombing whatever the shits loud, everyone is screaming and everyone is just trying too keep it together.
This new style wouldn't be effective in old combat. Luckily USA uses drones now because infantrymen would be mowed down while trying to talk it out with the enemy. 🤦♂️
I’m 17 and looking into the army, my father was In Air Force, and brother a Machine Gunner, these videos have really helped me a lot, love the content Man! Thank you
Basic 2003. College wrestler at the time but after 9/11 I figured I would at least join the reserve if Uncle Sam needed me. Your comments on intensity and fierceness are so on point I can’t even explain it. Look straight forward, don’t move unless told, yell as loud as you can and just basically forget you are human. Just kick @$$ If you can do that. You will be a hero to your platoon, DSs and company commander.
I went through in 04. We did BRM from foxholes and it was right before they started urban training. It was all jungle tactics. It's changed a lot. Had BDUs and had boots to shine. It's amazing how much it has changed and yet it feels like I went through it yesterday. Good times.
It’s a damn shame I was born to late for the BDUs. Those late 90s/early 2000s camo patterns really had something going for them. The OCPs I think are certainly no BDUs, but they still look cool and they certainly look better than the ACUs (and actually blend in with stuff)
I went to basic in 04 at Jackson. I believe we where the last cycle shining boots. I actually loved doing that. Now I’m going back to basic shipping Tuesday… let’s see how it goes
Ft. Sill. November 04 to February 05. Got to do Land Nav on my birthday. Got smoked a little bit by my ds the day after for not bringing it up. Good times
I went to basic in 2013 and even then I was like maybe this is a little to soft. Seeing basic like this, this seems more like a daycamp then training. I get that yelling and shark attack on the outside looks chaotic but thats what you need to experience to be able to handle yourself in other situations. its a process to break you down and build you up to follow orders, complete the mission, and keep military bearing.

@@AQS521 barely. the most yelling is done when the people doing the training or whatever, but the drill sergeants dont seem to be yelling or punishing these recruits for not staying at parade rest or anything.
@@Sarione exactly bro, we had a crew film us in 09. When they left he made us do it anyway 🤪
Went to Benning back in 2010. Basic has definitely changed......Hands down scariest part was trying not to fall asleep in a classroom lol. God help you if you got caught not paying attention. Edit: MOS was 11B
It blows my mind that you went to basic in 2015. I thought we were the same age; I went in at 17 in 2010. I'm only two years older, but I went in ASAP. My parents had to sign me away to the Army recruiter, essentially. As for BCT, from your videos we had pretty much the same experience so the 5 year gap between our cycles didn't really seem to change anything. Although, when I went through, the DS' and Cadre told use that they were not allowed to hit us, but that didn't mean they couldn't MOVE us. We got man-handled if we really fucked up something, but never struck.
Oh man took me back at the meal conversation. Didn’t care what they served, just scarfed it down because you never know when they will make you stop eating because someone did something wrong.
THIS IS MY RIFLE, THIS MY GUN, THIS IS FOR FIGHTING, THIS IS FOR FUN. YOUR MAMAS ARE NOT HERE TO HELP YOU NOW. WE RAN IN PLACE WHEN DOING NOTHING ELSE. GEEZE
I went in 2013. Needless to say it wasn’t hard and I was at Sand Hill. The only hard thing was dealing with the certain few people that kept getting the whole platoon in trouble. For the most part we all helped each other out, except for those blue falcons who ever always saying there father was prior military or a jrotc nerd.

Went to Benning in 09, it was so different back then. I watched people in my company get choked out, punched, there was no limit on what was said, No phones, no stress cards. But after you make it through the first phase as long as no one fucks up it does get less hectic.
Thanks for showing what basic training is like during 2022. I have tried to see many different videos to see what it’s really like. I mean I’m in future soldier training, and it’s intense, but we still have fun. So maybe this is like a new thing to make basic training be more enjoyable I guess. I’m just preparing for whatever I’m gonna face. I’m not in infantry, but I’m in admin. My MOS is 68 G, so I guess my basic training might be intense, but moderate.
Hey Nikko I’m actually in red phase right now and that first 100 task is what happens on the first day after reception. Believe me, right now the intensity has been watered down. The training that was instilled in me during Marine Corps recruit training was so much more intense.
I went to a "boot camp" my freshman year (not sure what it actually was, judge said boot camp) I had gotten into trouble for skipping school and man that shit was rough. I thought I was a bad ass until I went there, like I remember waking up at 3am to screaming from the instructors to wake up. Absolutely brutal. Really humbled me I think. I mean, I never skipped school again so I guess it worked😂
your reactions are so funny. actually you just make me love this more. i really want to get in but i'm not even able to do 5 push ups correctly right now lol
Arrived at 30th AG on 18 March 2002, started basic 4 April 2002. This is WAY different than when I went through. I can't say that I think it's changed for the better either. I'm just glad I am retiring soon...
I went through the first 100 yards, at 1-50 where this was filmed no less, and it's really not much different from what this video shows. It's actually pretty fun. The following 72 hours are a different story though.
Previous basic was focused more on breaking someone down completely and heavy focus on the physical build back. Now it’s more targeting weakness and fixing it rather than starting from complete scratch, it’s also more training focused rather than full physical I would think. (May differ as I was at relaxin Jackson)
I went through Benning 2012 A Co. 2/47. I will never forget the sandpits, that hill leading to 1-50th (the building on the hill at 3:17), and the tank trails. Sandhill creates the most disciplined and physically fit soldiers in the Army. Period.
I was 2/47 Delta company Beastmasters back in 1999. Sand Hill is the Real Shit. I was a DEP for almost a yr before i graduated high school and left Detroit on a Plane for Atlanta, and them Bus to Columbus. Got there June 28th. Reception was cack and fooled me. Then we got on the cattle cars and the Shark ALLEY. H.S.!!!
4:24 Is my senior drill sergeant. He is an amazing mentor. He has helped teach me a lot through out my basic. I graduate Jan 20th and Jan 3 when I get back from holiday I will find out if I got airborne.
@@budlightyear6795 I did have it i went through a few days. I had my orders messed up so I made the decision to take my old contract. I am now at Fort Drum.
When I went through basic in Canada, it felt like they actually cared to build us up. It was different when I when I went through infantry training and they told us at the beggining "you will get injured, we are asking if you have the fortitude to fight through those injuries."
“Oh you got hurt and have a legitimate injury in a training environment? Push through it and very likely hurt yourself more in the long run rather than get it checked out by a medical professional”
I was in from 2007-2015, this was 1000x different then when I was in. 1st day all day were shark attacks, many half right faces front leaving rest position moves, constant soup sandwich, and knife hands. Drill sergeants constantly broke us down to build us into Warriors. Good times!

There are no stress cards. The "stress cards" are the cards that tell you what to do if you think that someone is thinking about hurting himself. Also known as ACE cards.
Whenever I yelled at my friends who were being idiots like a Drill Instructor for about 2 minutes I felt like I was about to have a heart attack, I have no idea how these Sargents do it for hours.
Graduated from Benning in 2004, we had no jerseys, no patches. We were on red phase the whole time. Alfa company was definitely being trained differently than where I was in Bravo 254. We had training during a hurricane and that sucked. I really enjoyed the repelling tower.

Hate it now, thank it later when all hell breaks lose in actual combat because when the battle over you sometimes which that basic training was more demanding.
As a guy that graduated basic training literally yesterday, shit has almost definitely gotten softer, other than the forge, that has one hundred percent held up in the difficulty.
It is definitely different than when I went through OSUT at Benning in the late 80’s. My son just graduated in March from Basic in FLW. Better or worse I am not sure , but I am glad I got it the way I did 30 + years ago. Just my humble opinion
Did you not read the gen-z report? Their bones literally break if they're pushed too hard. The problem isn't the military, it's the pitiful weak boned material they're working with. If they went hard on them and started weeding out the weak... There'd be no one left.
I went to basic in 2010 and it was by far much worse! I’m sure before that it was far worse! Lol but I tell you what, my first night had my mind racing! When I was ready for bed with my woobie, we got told we need to form up outside at 2100 and get ready for milk and cookies…. I swear that screwed with my mind so hard when we were outside waiting in formation in the freezing cold (October-February) and there was ACTUALLY MILK AND COOKIES!! Well a nutrigrain bar but still actual MILK AND COOKIES!! Got that… and went to bed! Lol but was woken up to a flash and just a couple hours later and had to run out for a fire drill. Ahhh the golden days!
I went through Benning in 2012. I couldn’t remember a time during basic where I didn’t have drill sergeant spit on my face. Loved it though. Made me stronger mentally and physically.
I had basic in 2015 too and from what ive seen/heard its very different now. You literally said everything i was thinking when i saw the original video 🤣 . I doubt kids today could handle a shark attack
I was an infantry man and I went to Benning for basic in 2006 and it was still pretty hard-core back then. DS were still putting hands on people, but just a few years later, dudes from my unit ended up being was a drill sergeants, and they say it was crazy soft. And my best friend is a 1Sgt & he says it’s so week nowadays.
A 8/2 Basic Training August 1981. One station infantry battalion Fort Benning, GA I'll tell you what the real difference is between then and now. Drills would literally beat you up if you were a problem trainee. I saw it happen almost daily. I even got knocked out from a roundhouse elbow to the temple. For merely scratching my nose in formation. Those dudes weren't messing around back then.
Not currently in the Army but already enlisted myself to go after high school during June so it’s nice to see what’s gonna happen and also kinda bummed it got softer than what I imaged it would be. Also recently came across your videos, always great to watch and thank you a lot for serving

I went through Basic at Ft Jackson in 1991 and Ft Sill in 2009. It’s exactly the same. 18-21 yrs old privates are all the same. Even if there isn’t a shark attack you’ll still have smoke sessions.
BCT Ft Jackson 2010 was fire, We only had 7 mins to eat each meal the whole 10 weeks, we were in red phase for 7 weeks, but we did get CLS which is good training !!!
Navy Boot Camp, Dec, 2011. Given hindsight, wasn't too bad. I was with a good group ofe guys that helped me believe in myself and figure out how to figure it out. The drilling wasn't too bad either, as long as you don't ufk up, this one guy was sent through the blender, basically he was given intensive training personally by our drill sergeants, as well as the other 6 through out the building, didn't see him come back to the barracks until a little past midnight just soaked from sweat, gnarly bro
I joined in ‘06, basic seemed hard then, but in hindsight… that was easy. Tired, hungry, couldn’t do anything right, but nobody was shooting at me. And the expectations were (relatively) low compared to a deployment.
these videos make me feel so much better about joining the military. I'm joining the army reserves in 2 months and I've been really nervous but I'm getting excited about it! My basic training is at Fort Sill, Oklahoma
Do not join the reserves. Go in active duty. You won’t be respected as a veteran. You’ll be labeled a weekend warrior for life. Trust me. My buddy regrets that shit completely. Why go to training and not go see somewhere new? Go in for 2 years and the. Reserves if you can. Old men such as myself have experience. But it’s your life. Really talk to veteran reservists. See what they say.

I joined in 2018 and it was hard for the first 3-4 weeks and then it became fun after I adjusted but at no point could I show that I was happy or we got smoked. I can’t believe how easy it’s honestly becoming. I friend just joined and asked me what to expect and when they came back they told me the things they went threw and I was just blown away.
I went to BCT this year and my Drill Sergeants went all out - shark attack, really creative smoke sessions where we basically did PT all afternoon with our flashlights in our bay (they called it a disco party), made us run everywhere, called us pretty much whatever they wanted to call us. I didn't see it as a weaker BCT and actually thought it was more challenging than what I expected. But then again, I know some people who came from different Drill Sergeants and bases and had it way easier than me. My drill sergeants were legends.
I attended Basic Training in 2010 at Ft. Benning and it was never like this. Saw my battles get hit for making a wrong move. Luckily I always managed to stay under the radar.
My son graduated AIT March this year . Ft. Benning - Infantry- my dad said from what he fools tell ( he was in the support groups as well ) it had turned to pansy training 🤣 granted my dad is 79 years old. My son went in violent and came out worse . It worked towards his advantage .

I went to basic in 2020 and i expected it to be harder but it was ok. My platoon always got in trouble so we always did something physical no matter 😂 it was fun but eh
The problem is I want to see actual data contrasting outcomes in performance & ability for the two different training methods. Something may seem “softer” but what we need to know is it's actual effectiveness.
Just finished basic and luckily my drills were old school so they got a little physical lol but over all it’s getting softer, it needs to be harder both mentally and physically if you expect people to atleast be somewhat ready for war also they didn’t have stress cards lol the infantry drills just said he was emotional support lmao
I thought the point in joining to begin with was to strengthen your ability to work under stress and perform task flawlessly under hard circumstances? But they let you have “Emotional Support” ? Do people think they will get emotional support in war? There just going to be fighting, there gonna be tired and what? Stop the war with the nonexistent pause button and be like “ I need a break, where’s the emotional support dude?” Now mind you, I don’t know much on this military stuff, but as a young teen, the entire reason why I look up to the military is because there able to do all these things under stress, when it seems like I can’t even wake up in the morning if I’m stressed or tired?
@@oliviabridges8908 They don't let you have emotional support, it's a joke the drill sergeants do and if someone actually goes to them for support they will be smoked so hard they'll still feel it 30 years later
9:03 The Drill Sergeant called the soldiers men and asked them nicely to keep bearing. In Boot Camp, we were lower than shit in a snakes belly. And we held bearing or we got fucked up, and I graduated in 2021. And yes wearing masks sucks, especially when you wear glasses.
That's cute. But, being considered "lower than shit in a snake's belly" won't determine whether, or not you'll be a hard charging MFer! The REAL shit (hardcore training) begins when you get to your PDS. Also, the Army is trying to attract others besides grunts. So they're not going to F you with eyes on them. However, when there are no cameras, or brass around, it is a VERY different animal, I assure you. I speak from experience.
Went through basic in 2021 and I guess it’s “softer” than the old days but we got absolutely destroyed every single day for 22 weeks straight. I guess these media videos don’t want to show all that though
Funny thing about those stress cards. I went to basic in 2011, and about 2 or so years after I started to hear about stress cards. They've been a rumor for a *long* time, and afaik it's never been true.
I was sweating all over Sand Hill in the late 90s and this is softer than medicated cotton! This is not how the infantry needs to be trained. Bring back the 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈
Every Marine has laughed at Army boot camp for the last 20 years. Even when this dude with the mic went through basic, it's still a joke compared to being on a Depot. #ArmySoft haha
Yeah, went through boot in MCRD San Diego in 2006. This shit seems soft as hell, maybe it's toned down for TV but it's appalling how casual everything is.
