So, this conversion/upgrade has been a plan of mine for a loooong time. Just never got around to it. Now, at least, I have the main body of the parts, so the next thing will be to find some time to actually do the conversion. Might take a while if I decide to film it.
The parts and electronics I decided on are all on the affordable side. I know a lot of folks use the Traxxas Evx-2 ESC and a dual set of Traxxas 12T Titan motors, and I did consider that, since that set is always available very cheap second hand (since many e-revo etc. lovers tend to convert their dual brushed versions to single bruhless versions).
But I really wanted to try something different and, in my humble opinion, the chosen set-up will make a great little WR-01 4WD runner out of my two 2WD WT-01 Monster Trucks, the Blackfoot III and the Mighty Bull. But I will just have to wait and see how it fares.
For reference, the items seen in the video are as follows:
- GPM RACiNG Wild Dagger Shock Towers Rear/Front: Extended shock towers for the Tamiya WR-01/WT-01 Monster Truck series (x2)
- HOBBYWING Quicrun 860 Brushed ESC: Waterproof 60A Electronic Speed Controller for dual brushed motors
- RC4WD Crawler Motor 20T Brushed 540 Type (x2)
- CARSON MODEL SPORT Aluminium Oilfilled 95mm Shocks (x2 sets)
- CARSON MODEL SPORT 0.6 Mod 20T Steel Pinion Gear (x2)
Of course the conversion requires a servo and a radio (transmitter/receiver) too. But other than that, I hope to make due without any other parts. Remember, for reference, you can find the parts numbers in the video, just press pause when you see the number on the item. In the package from Tamico I also aquired a few parts for other purposes:
- CARSON MODEL SPORT Expert Charger LiPo-Compact V2 Set: Pocket 800 mah LiPo charger and 3000 mah 2S LiPo Hard Pack Battery. I really need a LiPo charger I can travel with and as I also needed a few extra LiPo batteries I jumped in on this package when it was on sale.
- TAMiYA 0.8 Mod 17T and 19T Steel Pinion Gears. Xtras for my Tamiya DT-02, DT-03 etc. Just wanted a few xtras so I wouldn't be limited choosing to run a 17T or 19T in my DT-02s and DT-03s. Also I got myself another sheet of the TAMiYA TRF Sticker Sheet C. The big "Tamiya" stickers has proven handy for any body work.
