Second step in the upgrade & modernization of an original Tamiya Wild Dagger 1/10 4WD WR-01 Monster Truck RC Car from 1999 (Tamiya 58231)! In this video we will rebuild the suspension and install the WR-01/WT-01 Extended Shock Towers from GPM Racing and a set of oil filled aluminium shocks from Carson!
The car is complete now, and I just need to edit my way through all the footage!
Stay tuned for more episodes in the near future now!

This video series is part of my effort to get all my RC cars up and running this year. One car at a time. Slowly. I hope I will make it.
Be aware that this is not a true restoration of a vintage model. More of a runner-project with a complete clean-up, transformation, upgrade and modernization. Some will like the final result, some will not. I will.
This is an original 1999 Tamiya Wild Dagger I purchased for little money several years ago. It was dirty and well-used but I never got around to a clean-up and restoration, before now.

Part 1 of this series (introduction and last stock run): • Tamiya Wild Dagger WR-...
Part 2 of this series (tear down & inspection): • Tamiya Wild Dagger WR-...

I have had these parts lying around for several years now. And in my opinion, these are the upgrades that will make the most impact on the performance of the Tamiya WT-01 and WR-01. Real shocks with some real travel.

Nice upgrades Mikael. I didn't realise the GPM Shock Towers were still available. Also what length shocks did you use.

@NordicRC 4 года назад
Thank you, Derek! Yeah. I bought them a couple of years ago, but I definitely know that Tamico got them still, and in all available colors (I think). These are 95 mm but got adjustable ends, with shorter spare rod ends in the bag (which I changed to later). But I would say 90 mm shocks (which I also think mine are now) is the max one can go with these towers (unless the stock dog bones start falling out etc.).

@@NordicRC Thank you Mikael. I may do the same to my Bigfoot as I have to replace the gearbox case. 👍🏻👍🏻

Nice video, Mikael! Love the music choice - I was surprised at first when the drums started, not the usual from you but well received! I have used those shocks too - but I reckon you need to drill out bigger holes in the pistons or fit lighter oil, my experience is that they are way too stiff as they come as standard. Anyway, love the new shock towers and long shocks, it will transform the rig! Thanks for a lovely, easy going vid to end my night - see you soon bro! :)

Thank you, Mark! Ahh, I try to use as much as I can of this kind of music, but I think it's hard to find some with some quality to it. This one I liked too, very much, Goes well together with a build video. Uhh, I actually also had to tighten up the springs (I'll show in the last video) because of the ride height. Maybe it will be even harder now. Hmm, it seems ok now, and I think they are well tuned for some jumps, but yeah, for the overall flexibility and dampening they might be too hard. But it's a heavy truck too, with the two motors etc. We will see, but thanks for the tip. And yes, it will change the rig completely, going from short pogo sticks, to long real shocks. I hope I won't like it too much, as we got 3 other of these, and then I might want to change them too, he he :-) See you soon, my good friend.
@MarkBryanRC

@@NordicRC Ahh - yes Mikael, I was forgetting this rig is gonna be a lot heavier than my buggies with those shocks - might be perfect then! As you say, you can always tune them if needs must. Later, mate! :)

The shock kits are nice like them a lot. The tie rod upgrade for the upper links a good on as that's a weak spot for screws coming undone on my ones.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 4 года назад
Yeah, although both shocks and towers seem a little flimsy. Maybe double the towers and some big bore shocks later, if they start to bend. Yeah, I remember some of them coming undone too in the past. Hope this will be better. Also allows me to adjust the toe-in a little more. Thanks a lot for watching, Mal.

How much are all those parts that you bought u.s. dollars?

Not expensive. About 10 euro for a tower, and 10 euro for a set of shocks. So about 30-40 dollars in total.
