I was the goth girl in middle school and people were really harsh on me. HS wasn't all that much better but there was another goth girl a few years ahead of me and she was so excited to have a fellow goth, so she didn't let people mess with me. I love when women uplift other women and I've been trying to pay that forward since HS ❤️

I love how all the 90s looks are coming back. I agree if we could keep children's kindness in them forever would make the world such a better place. Hope you have a wonderful weekend 😀
I totally felt the same way about jr high. It was ROUGH. And I felt the exact same way about my kids going through Jr high-I just wanted them to keep their kind hearts-their compassionate personalities. I am happy to say that they did. 💕❤️ I remember getting emails (which I still have saved) from teachers commenting on the kindness our kids exhibited towards classmates. Or their compassion towards students that other kids treated unkindly because they were “different “. As a parent-nothing made me more proud. ❤️
Hey Emily! Just thought I'd share a bit of happiness that I made for myself this week. I've started to get up dark and early to go for power walks before work. I can already feel myself getting stronger and happier 😊 As someone who gets up early to take care of herself I thought that might make you smile.
Gwen has always made me think 1950’s Hollywood glam, it’s classic and timeless. I love this look! Thank you for sharing. I was curious about her products.
Em, I hear you on kids and meanness. My mom was a great example as we saw her be endlessly kind to everyone. We just thought that was the way. You seem that way too. Before we entered school, she told us that some kids would tease and make fun of others, that it wasn't right, and we don't do that. I never forgot it. It stuck. Was as simple as that. I was bullied and teased a lot. Got good grades, etc. Even teachers were mean to kids. They became my anti-examples. I was a teacher for some years and I tolerated none of that. Proud to say my students felt safe in my room.
At first I didn’t think the eyeshadows were not going to show on your eyes but you created a gorgeous look, the lipstick looks beautiful. Have a great weekend, hugs 💄
Yay thank you for reviewing Gwen’s line! No Doubt is one of my favorite bands. Her signature look is my favorite aside from Dita Von Teese which is similar 💋 This is the first celebrity makeup line I’m excited for. I’m hoping she releases a liquid eyeliner soon. Hope you’re having a great day Emily 😃 ☕️ 💋💄
This video is amazing Em. I loathed junior high, my parents divorced the beginning of my 6th grade year so I had to move and at my new school .I was the target of a group of mean girls the entire 3 years until we moved again..they were relentless and so cruel and music was were I found happiness and Gwen's music was a big part of that💛💛
Typically I watch tutorials and reviews before purchasing. Just found this at Sephora yesterday and now I’m researching this magic eyeshadow. It’s something special. Makes the eyes POP
I still have lipsticks she collabed with urban decay with years ago and to this day, the one colour that’s like a cool toned magenta is my favourite lipstick
I agree. Middle school was the worst time in my life (and I loved school). I was pushed down a two flights of stairs so hard and was lucky to brace myself before smacking face first in a cement wall. The next day, the person who pushed me asked if I wanted her to be my body guard. Um, the only one I needed protection from was her. I cried all the time and was physically sick every morning. My freshman year in high school was so much fun. It’s amazing the difference.
My 13 year old daughter needed to hear that advice so bad right now, thank you!!!! P.S. love Gwen, No Doubt was my first ever concert and it did not disappoint 😃 excited for this makeup 💄
Oh what a fun video! You look so glam but it seems doable for daytime. Your eyes are just poppin'! I love your b&w striped top too btw, I was just waiting for you to flip out your ponytail! Big love💖
I was in college when No Doubt was out. Always loved Gwen’s style! Her handbags are a favorite of mine! Junior high was 87-89. Lots of bullying. Like bad, I have good memories, but it took years to come to terms with it. Now I focus on the good memories. High school was a private school and no more bullies! I want to buy a few things from this line. I’m not a red lip person, so I hope she brings some pinks. I like the packaging too! I’m glad she isn’t dropping a tone of products and getting overwhelmed by what’s out there when a celeb comes out with make up.
I'm so glad you did a video on this line! Honestly, I was gonna get at least one of the lipsticks just for nostalgia. It's great to know the line is actually pretty good.
I bought the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani palette on a whim years ago because it was marked down and it's one of my most used palettes. I love the way those neutrals show up.
Emily, your makeup looks beautiful. The advice your mother gave you when you were in middle school is exactly what I gave my kids. They turned out to be beautiful human beings. I can’t imagine what middle school is like these days, it does blow my mind how mean the girls are. The can be so mean, it’s sad. I believe those that are so mean are not experiencing a very good home life and are starving for their parents attention. Good luck and I’m sure your children will thrive!!!
Junior high was awful for me as well. I think it’s a rough time for a lot of kids. Everyone is growing up, figuring out who they are and what they like etc. Kindness is something we need to continue teaching/preaching to our children. ❤️😊 BTW- you are absolutely stunning, per usual!
As a 31 yr old woman feeling a bit lost in the world, I can't tell you how much your words just helped me. I'm constantly thinking that I need to change, that there's something wrong with me...but sometimes you just need to be reminded that it's not about other people. Thank you, Emily, for always being you! ❤
Happy Saturday morning Emily, how was your week? I am so excited I guessed correctly!!! 😃 I’m also very excited for your review on this! Thank you so much! I love Gwen Stefani’s signature look too and I’m an overall fan of hers and grew up with her and her music 🥰
Yes!! She is iconic in a number of ways! :D Had a good week and getting ready for the girls cheerleading showcase today! They are so excited :) Have a great weekend my friend!
Love the video! Also remember - i believe we all do need to go through bumpy times growing up to learn how to tolerate and thrive through the hard times during life. We can teach our kids and guide, AND, there still may be pain, AND, that’s totally ok. ❤️
Not saying this just because I'm a No Doubt and Gwen fan...this truly is one if my fave makeup looks you've done! (Which, of course, is very hard to choose!!). Also, yes about girls needing to be kind. Tough tough tough years. Finally, I jump to your profound/random thoughts in every description box...so appreciate them. The random today is funny! Thank you for your channel, gracing us with your personality, and have a wonderful day!!
Speaking of masterful highlighters, I broke out my trio from The Balm with Cindy, Mary & Betty Luminizer & I just love all 3 of them! Each is so different & yet equally beautiful & wearable💜
Most people on youtube seemed uninterested in the brand, but I liked Gwen's Urban Decay collab so much (it was my first high-end purchase so special memories for me personally) I was looking forward to it. Thanks for reviewing Emily!
Oh my, I am in love with this look! I am terrified of red lip colors but this might be one I could get down with! Because it’s more of a blue-based red I think it would go well with my cooler skin tone! You truly nailed her signature, old Hollywood, pin-up look! I am also hoping for some lighter lip options, maybe some shadow palettes with a little more depth, and also some base products (even if there’s a powder foundation option!) I bet some little gemstones or different colored liquid liners would be popular with those who were attracted to her Spiderweb days! Absolutely gorgeous look & I feel it’s an attainable look even for those without a ton of skill with makeup. I hope you & your family are happy & healthy & that you have an amazing weekend!! 💜
I agree about junior high kids. It use to make my heart swell when teachers would tell me how sweet and polite my Daughter was. I felt like if a parent can instill that in their children then it’s a huge accomplishment. My daughter is now 28 and people still tell me that I have such a kind daughter.
Oh my goodness our stories are almost identical and my mom would tell me the same thing when I'd come home crying every day. She taught me the golden rule and told me to keep being kind & my sweet self, and to show them the love of Jesus, and one day I'd earn their favor. That is exactly what happened! You've earned a new subscriber (& I was a 90s-00s era makeup artist & saw No Doubt live when I was in college!).
I agree Emily, when I first got a launch notice from Sephora I assumed it was skin care, blush , contour , etc . It’s very defining ( excuse the pun) thanks for the video and enjoy the fam and Spring 🌸☀️
I was in my twenties back in the nineties, I was really into Alternative Rock and No Doubt was one of my favorite bands. I loved Gwen Stefani and thought she was beautiful. I would wear dark lipstick in burgundies and reds, I also wore the Bindis and I wore plenty of glitter she was an inspiration to me. I loved how she dressed like Tom Boy back then but with really glamorous makeup. She is very glamorous and even got more so as she got older. Yes I am not as crazy for her to wear more natural makeup. She should always rock the red lips. I saw her in concert some years back and she was even more gorgeous in real life and she was totally rock the red lips and black eye liner. My favorite makeup look is red lips and black eye liner.
Hallo, love this what a fun video down memory lane. On a funny note, my hubs is a big No doubt fan. A few years ago I was dying he was in the garage working on his hobbies with earbuds on and singing top of his voice " I'm just a girl". It was hysterical. Loved your bus story and your channel. Thank you for adding joy in to my day today. ❤️😻
I lived through a very similar school "hell" as you. Originally, she was my best friend. We started school together and only lived a half mile apart (in the country). As we got a little older and other girls transferred in, she would bring them into our friendship circle and they would turn on me. I never knew if I was going to have a good day or if I was going to be brought to tears. One time she told me that she did it to me just because she could. Years after graduating, one of the other "friends" spoke to my father and told him to tell me that she was sorry for her part in all this. The original friend has NEVER apologized even when we were face to face following my mother's funeral. I'm happily married for over 27 years and my husband is my best friend. Girls are hard to trust.
Such a beautiful look on you! I will be grabbing this palette and copying. ❤️ I have two little girls as well and my biggest goal is to raise them to be kind. I hope that more Moms of this generation will be focused on that. Love you Emily!
I really lucked out when it came to being bullied in school I was never picked on. But I was always sticking up for the kids that other kids were mean to. I would play with them and sit at lunch with them. I was always kind to everyone.
I was surprised at how much contrast that khaki shade provided, tbh - the quad looks like a pastel correctors palette AND YET. Also that red lip looks amazing!
Emily I wish i had this channel when i was a kid in school 😀🌸 you're so beautiful, always giving the best life advice!! Watching you apply that red lipstick reminded me when you tried all the red lipsticks from Besame! I want this red ♥️
I have a daughter who will be in Jr high next year, and it worries me greatly. It's so funny to hear you talking about this, because I was just talking to my mom about it the other day. Love the video, it was a beautiful look 😍 ❤️
Love it! You are so fun and genuine. Thank you for being so great. The look is timeless. Very old Hollywood. A++ So strange that she didn’t do liquid eyeliner! That would have been a ‘no-brainer’ to me. Keep up the great work 💕
That would be a cool video idea. “I probably need a winter shade for this foundation!” What foundations are worth getting year round shades for? Sure, it’s one thing to have a back up or a duplicate of a foundation, but it’s another to know you CAN and DO use it so frequently to wear it year around. Just an idea!!
