I just received mine today, the servo that came with it is a metal gear servo. I don't know if they upgraded after the reviews or what, but just wanted to update.

Really interesting stuff indeed, Lee! Fantastic review! 😃 I mentioned I'm going to build a FPV pod with a Caddx Turtle v2 I have here, but I've been thinking about doing the same with pan and tilt servos! (It just won't be with another Caddx Turtle, because I believe you can't get them anymore, but it could be even with Walksnail or something else!) But I don't know if I like that connector idea... I would probably leave the servo connectors labeled, plus a multi cable JST connector for the FC (or just a simple JST power connector, if the airplane doesn't have a FC). Unless you could 3d print and assemble your own connectors, of course. Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

I would argue that the screws are a _must_ due to the fact that this is exposed to the outside, and you dont want it to fall off with your several hundred dollar camera. the screws add a great security.

best sunday morning start you can get even though you are right regarding the gimbal: too much of a beta or V1 version to throw out into the market instead of asking you in advance for an advice what it would need to be a smash hit that sells well from the beginning. Missing dji support is really a mess like the missing of a real quick release . Who would call tiny screws out in the field a quick release when it is a mess - at least in the second the first screw has gone (missing in the gras which China seems not to have) or you had forgotten to bring that screwdriver along after your planes had gotten quick release wings like all my phoenix models I still love for that. I will wait for Atoms RC 2nd edition, the painless360 one or in particular the painless270 (not to confuse people with 360° if they can offer only 270°). Really nice idea and great video but unfortunatelly too much missing even for AtomRC owners.

I've sent them my feedback and a request that they make a new compact, spring loaded version of the FPV unit (without pan and tilt) for pilots who just want a way to swap air units easily... Happy flying

Lee, excellent product review! I agree with your findings and would like to see AtomRC take this back to the drawing board and do a redesign. It's close but not quite there to go Prime Time. I have a box of small digital metal geared servos I use to replace the plastic analog servos. Somehow they seem to keep finding their way from children's electronic hobby kits to aircraft that can't afford a flight mishap when these cheap servos go bad. I'll be anxiously awaiting your review of the AtomRC Pan-Tilt v2 device.

Looking forward to installing this on the swordfish. I struggle with the need to wire the DJI to the quick connect. More to go wrong. Will likely just bypass around it to the FC. Thoughts?

I want a tilt only gimbal small enough to stuff behind the camera in the front of a quad frame so it is protected from impacts.

Just installed the 1-axis gimbal on my swordfish and now i can't get the CG right with my 4000mah lipo batteries. I just ordered two 3500mah Li-Ion battery, hopefully they will work.

Just be aware that it is not suitable for the old dji air unit. Also it is not really the most straight forward build. You need to scratch a little your head cause it comes all in kit apart for the pan servo.
