33:56 That was when the dual clutch got wrong prediction bring to you. sry for my english if u could understand. （that moment is the DSG prepared to get higher gear but actually when u put ur feet down suddenly the DSG got wrong prediction so DSG got to move to lower gear from the higher gear, then you get dat kind situation and thats why making dual clutch not reliable bcus its not like AT gearbox, duel clutch only prepare on one gear(Torque converter)

U mean that the doors click in a certain half holding position while opening them? That's common to VAG cars

Good review. Well done sir! It was a tab but on the long side of a review but I think you explained everything pretty good. Most other reviews go over lap times ( 0-60mph) etc. I'm excited to see the r version of this. Hopefully you can have a review on that as well. 👍👍😄

Would I go for the Virtual Cockpit? I wouldn't even consider buying a car that has such a cool thing as an option without it. Anybody buying an Audi without Matrix Leds, the virtual cockpit and no cool rims really misses out on some of the better things in life.

Some of these options combined cost upwards of $11,000. I think given the choice, most people would buy a high end car with no options over a low end car with all options. Audi will definitely sell more cars without it, although it might become standard one day.

Tough call. You add all the features and you can have a slightly lesser equipped model up. Still worth it though! Virtual cockpit is coming to the VW's though... which is kind of a kick in the nuts for Audi drivers.

overall Audi have made the S3 slightly better looking,love the new chrome grill it looks more money than the current S3"s grill,Daytona Grey is awesome looking on the sedan but Audi why have you deleted Sepang blue??naughty naughty Audi lol. Ara blue crystal paint is a £2075 paint option very expensive, and again Thomas you're car reviews,keep getting better

From the USA: I think you have the best reviews. When I buy a car I want to know how it handles on the real road and not the race track. You do that better than anyone. Also you give the options of interior and exterior choices and what the benefits or downside might be of each. Fantastic!

Thanks Thomas, great review! The facelift doesn't change much, so neither does my opinion about the A3. Especially the sedan is exceptionally beautiful, with the right proportions. The interior, although high quality, is a bit too 'simple' (with very few elements) for my taste, so it could be better.. The digital display is nice, but with the prices of the options for Audi being what they are, I guess the money would probably be better spent on something else. The problems you had with the driving part were very strange, seems to me to be a software setup problem. Maybe they haven't gotten that quite right yet, especially because (as someone else also mentioned) this car now has a new DSG gearbox.

So, I'm in the US and we're not getting the "under the hood" updates. My biggest concern is the 6 vs 7 speed transmission. Do you European owners think it's worth the wait for the 7 speed and extra HP?

Will just add another comment. You're not the first to notice come weird behavior about the shifting and reving of some Audi models Tomas. My dad has a Audi A6 2.0TDI ultra with the S-tronic from 2014 and he also has experienced some weird behaviors when flooring it. In his case the engine just downshifts and revs, but there is no acceleration until the car shifts to the next gear after the downshift. To conclude, there is something wrong here.

I personally prefer hatchback's but, I really like the Audi S3 sedan, it's a great looking car, almost coupe like. But as a hatch, personally I would have the Mercedes A Class & BMW 1 Series over the A3!, great work again Autogefühl.

Hi Thomas. Thanks a lot for this excellent extended review. I'm planning to buy this new s3 and you made me so happy reviewing it. Since a couple or weeks I'm going dayly to the different Audi websites in order to make my ideal configuration but the car isn't configurable yet. Any idea when this will be possible? Finally. and please if you can take on a plate Skoda superb diesel 1.6 honda civic/crv'hrv 1.6 diesel/1.5 benzin maybe also a yaris diesel. the engine check light is ALWAYS on in every single vehicle of the Volkswagen corporation brands when the ignition is turned on. This is to show that the light itself does work. As soon as you start the engine for real, the flash disappears. You only have a problem when the check engine light goes on when the engine is running :)

1. Virtual cockpit is a necessity. It means more dough but I think it's a really nice innovation that adds to the experience. 2. Red rings and accents are garish and I normally like red interiors. 3. I know Thomas likes the seats but they really don't seem like they are that supportive (not much bolstering). 4. Another great review Thomas!

Great review Thomas, as always. I must admit I am not a fan of the Audi A3. The various knobs and buttons may make a great clicking sound but this is not enough. No hiding from the fact that this car is overpriced and cramped. Also, I have had the chance to drive one at launch and I wasn't impressed by the quality of the dashboard plastics which are cheap and the tiny rear view mirror....it rides well and feel well screwed though...for the price I would go one class higher from the competition

Good review. But the Daytona Grey is not a new colour. It has been around for some time and available for S-line models of the 'ordinary' A models, as well as all S/RS models for over 10 years now.

Great car, I own one (not the s3) , with an s-line package. Really good car but unfortunately my sporty steeringwheel has been stolen 5 times already. All people I know that own an Audi A3 have the same problem. A shame that Audi is not really working on a permanent solution, It happens so often I wont consider one again.

I do not like the front grille of the s3, it looks like prison bars. I would rather like honey combe dark grill like the side grill as it looks sportier. Everything else looks nice.

Be honest with yourselves, the facelift grill looks hideous, and the mouth-shaped spoiler in the front only makes the car look worse. The facelift was an opportunity for Audi to look at the 2011 A3 Concept sedan and figure how to make that concept come a reality and they failed on that front. The pre-facelift sedan looks so much better.

For me the biggest change that I'm looking forward to is the 7 speed DSG instead of the current 6 speed DSG in the S3. I hope it brings the rpm down at highways speed a little bit, I always feel it's revving just a little too much.

My only concern with the car is that it has a huge mechanical gear selector, in 2016 it should be much smaller and electronic.

38:25 - this "boost hole" that you experienced is probably just a prosaic turbo lag. But what else did you expect from this tiny engine ? It just cannot be as responsive, as an old and big naturally aspirated V8, like on an R8 V8 or an A8 with an FSI engine. That's a sad truth, but a truth nevertheless.

I wouldnt use dynamic mode anyway, I would just stay in the auto mode. So for my normal driving, it wouldnt matter. But good question!

Audi is great, but saying they offer the "best screaming colors" ? Doesn't seem very fair, you can get fancy and nice color in nearly all brands (VW or otherwise), but each availability also depends on the markets.

Can't believe Audi is still sticking to that monstrous front grill. Anyone can see that if they reduced the height with 50% it would result in a much slicker car. Just put your hand over the bottom most part of the grill and see for yourself. There's no technical or mechanical reason for having such an oversized front grill. Time to move on Audi!

I don't understand why so many cars are cramped on the inside, I'm 5'8" (170cm for our mainland European cousins) and I never have a problem, but I find the majority of people are taller than that and it is always a common complaint.

Man Thomas love his alcantara, haha. Really want to like this car so so badly, but on the sedan, the back just seems so cramped, defeats the point of a sedan. Think I'd have to go with a CPO or used A4.

The only thing I don't get is why the US spec did not get the 7-speed transmission for 2017. Other than that, as a recent new owner of an S3 in Ara Blue, this review is great. Always love your content.

No Thomas, I would not go for the virtual cockpit. It will loose power by time as each pixel "wears off", after some years the light it emits will be more than halved and that makes a considerable difference in daylight. VAG doesn't operate with pixel guarantee so your basically on your own there. Also, at night it's very bright, making it quite annoying and harsh on the eyes and there's no adjuster. I would choose the traditional analogue display.

i guess this is the perfect car, even a daily. With a simple remap you can reach easily 370hp and around (or maybe under , 3.8) 4sec 0-100 with affordable consumption. and it looks really nice... its more than enough for legal roads, but its just my opinion.

Your are taller then me, but I have my head firmly against the roof and the dashboard feels very low. Seat was lowered all the way down. Its very small inside. Golf R better choice for taller.

A very nice review indeed, thank you! I have one question, though. I like to use Navigon in my iPhone for navigation as this offers the option for beautiful roads, an option navigation in Audis does not offer, unfortunately. But can you use Navigon via Car Play - and if yes, is use of all functions in Navigon possible? Or is Car Play restricted to certain apps, for instance Apples own apps? Thank you kindly.

As a 1.6 Tdi A3 S-Line/Ambition owner, the only thing about the facelift that makes me sad is the new S-Line bodykit. Damn it looks soo good! Didn't like the new front and back headlights though.
