In this review, I talk about the history and revival of the New Balance 2002 in the form of the 2002R released...in 2020. I know the numbering is confusing. The original New Balance 2002 was released in 2010 and was a staggering contender not only in terms of the materials + technology on the sneaker, but also with the extremely high price of $249.99. Sadly, due to the price, the sneaker did not last long on the shelves and became more of a niche collector's item up until 2020.
In 2020, the New Balance 2002 was re-released as the more stripped down 2002R version with insane fanfare with high-energy collaborations with then-Versace VP, Salehe Bembury. Since then, there have been many nice collaborations and in-line pairs that are insanely clean and well-regarded in the sneaker community. The more notable one's are the trio released in the Refined Future Pack (or Protection Pack) designed by Yue Wu. The Rain Cloud colorway is my favorite from the initial set!
