I strongly feel that you have the best fish hobbyist videos on RU-vid. Well informed, wise, not talking for hours, not constantly trying to sell stuff. I am learning a lot from you. By the way, I am a native Frenchman, retired teacher living near Los Angeles. I only have one 36 gallons aquarium with platys. If you happen to know where I can purchase healthy, colorful platys online, please let me know. Be well and stay safe.

After doing some research I’ve found that almost all of the food brands that are considered “high quality” due to their ingredient list are actually lower in protein and higher in carbohydrates than even Tetramin. I might go ahead and buy some of Ken’s fish food.

Great info on the fish food! Going to Ken's website to shop! What kind of plants would you suggest putting in for Goldfish? Ours eat anything we've put in there, from this video I gather that's good for them? I'd like some to just stay in there to look nice... is that a pipe dream? LOL Thanks again~ wonderful info and also thank you for your prompt replies!! Much appreciated!
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 2 года назад
If theyre already eating plants its going to be hard, In my experience what I've done in this situation is I have planted the tank with a bunch of fake plants and let it go for about 4 months and then pull all the fake plants out and put real plants in, From them nibbling on fake plants and not getting anything out of it for so long it basically numbs them to it And they'll leave them alone afterwards, But keep in mind this may not be a guaranteed fix

Those volumes are aimed at multiple fish tank owners and breeders. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy more food than your fish can consume within a reasonable timeframe, typically six months. After that. The food will begin to deteriorate, take on moisture and oxidises. Those bulk food packs are great value. But they are not suitable for everyone.
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 года назад
That's also what's great about Ken's fish food, You can buy it in bulk or you can buy it in standard sizes for people who have individual tanks, They sell containers of the exact same fish foods you can buy in bulk in sizes ranging from quarter pound (4oz), half pound (8oz), one pound (16 oz), and some foods even come in two and five pound packages. So if you don't think you're going to use all the food before it would expire (which is actually usually one to one and a half years from purchase unless it's sat on the shelf a long time, also depends on where you store it and how you store it) You can still buy smaller containers of the exact same stuff which are still sold at very affordable prices.

Hello sir, im having 200 liter(51 Gallon) with sump tank and 11 goldfish, is this consider overload ? How freq i should chg water and amount ? How much water i should chg during water chg, i mean percentage ? im feeding twice a day, how much( in gram) i should feed them to avoid overfeeding? Pls advise me
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 2 года назад
Your overstocked by about 8 fish if they are fancy goldfish, if they're regular goldfish your overstocked by 10 (based of full growth potential). Test you water daily until you reach 40ppm nitrate then do a 50% water change, try to keep nitrate under 40-60ppm for best health. Once you see how often you are changing water you can keep that schedule unless you change feeding amounts

The big manufacturer has ash in all. Is there a reason? Or just a filler. Does kens have ash?
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 года назад
Generally speaking Ash is used as a source of phosphorus and calcium, most of Ken's fish food products do have it but some don't so you'd have to check the guaranteed analysis on each product you look at.
@majesticcichlids1630
@majesticcichlids1630 3 года назад
Don't look at the guaranteed analysis, I also use omega one and Ken's fish foods. Look at the ingredients there's alot of starches and fillers in Ken's fish foods Omega one has a much better higher quality ingredient list.
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 года назад
I agree that omega one uses better ingredients, but like I said in the video I'm very impressed with the results of Ken's with the improved coloration and growth of my fish vs when I was using omega one. So even though omega one is technically better kens is still doing something right, but like I said that's just my opinion.

@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 года назад
What kind of pleco? Plecos can sometimes manipulate thier color a bit to help them blend into thier environment. If the white patches look fuzzy though that's a fungal infection and can be treated with erythromycin.

I was looking for a honest review and all i understand is price point and % of prot fat etc, there many ways to cut corner in pet foods and noway to cut on quality when going big. So the chart might be nice looking but noway it can only be based on.

I dont agree on kens fish food if you look the ingrediënts , it starts with fish meal .... That's one mistake people make instantly . You want to know what is in youre food . For example Northfin it says whole antartic krill that's true information , fish meal you dont know what crap they used to
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 года назад
Believe it or not fish meal isn't exactly the same as other meal products you hear about like you do with cat and dog food, 90% of the fish that are used to make fish meal are actually capable of being used for human consumption, which would actually make it a fairly good product versus traditional meat meals that you would see in other animal foods.

Kens fish food is cheap I'll give you that. But it's absolutely garbage. Look at the ingredients list. Wheat,corn meals a time of binding agents
@jean-pierretornai4546
@jean-pierretornai4546 3 года назад
I watch your videos with pleasure and interest. I often follow your advices. Unfortunately, I deeply disagree with your evaluation of Ken's fish food. The guaranteed analysis is absolutely meaningless. You can achieve the same results with used motor oil and used leather shoes! Seriously. What does matter is the list of ingredients. What you do NOT want to see is the word "meal". Meal is what is left when everything that's acceptable for human consumption has been removed. Simply put, meal is garbage. ( It's true of dog and cat food as well ). Notice that Xtreme, Northfin are packed with meal. No meal in Omega One or the better frozen fish food. Now read again Ken's list of ingredients. First ingredients ( = greatest %) is meal. Very disappointing but also explains why their food is cheaper. The food industry can only throw meal in the garbage or sell it for super cheap to the pet food manufacturers. No miracles. If you want a quality product for your fish, stay away from "meal".
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 года назад
Fish meal has been traditionally used as the main protein source in the aquafeed industry, due to its high protein content and balanced EAA profile. FM is also an excellent source of essential fatty acids, digestible energy, minerals and vitamins. Most of these fishes are small, bony, with high content of oil (e.g., anchovies, herrings, capelin, menhaden). A small percentage of fishmeal is rendered from fish offal, trimmings or cuttings, and other wastes principally from filleting and canning operations from the edible fisheries (e.g., tuna, cod, haddock, hake, pollock). Recent studies have shown that 90% of the fish that are used to make fish meal could potentially be used for human consumption. The meal in fish food is generally higher quality than that found in dog food with pork, chicken, beef and lamb meals. Id be more worried about the Dehulled Soybean Meal, Wheat Germ Meal, Wheat Flour, Corn Gluten, Feeding Oat Meal, Potato Protein, Shrimp Meal, Dried Yeast, Wheat Gluten that are all used as binding agents in many fishfoods. All that being said everyone is going to have thier own personal opinion of every fish food on the market on whether it's good or bad and how they compare to others, as well as I do agree that if we could use pure ingredients in our fish foods it would be entirely better for our fish. I do appreciate you watching and commenting to have a conversation with me about these foods I do appreciate it 😁.

Just because some food have meal doesn’t make the food garbage.
@sairvinginthestacks
@sairvinginthestacks 3 года назад
My understanding with listing "fish meal" is that the type of fish available can change seasonally. Manufacturers will list "fish meal" instead of changing the lable every few months.
