Have either of you tried using an etching cream with color? Like alcohol ink to stain the the etched part with color. I've never tried but do you think it would work? I know you all are up for trying new things.
@m2c1designs59 I went to your youtube to view how you do your process, but it seems the videos are hidden. I'm trying to get the best method for this process. And also wanting to know if you know if the process will work on a "go bottle" or "built" brands of tumblers? Wanting to make these for family for Christmas. Thanks for any advice you can offer.
just found your channel yesterday. I make epoxy tumblers. I use citristrip to take off the powder coatings and also to take off the factory coating off the tumblers to prep them for priming/glittering or whatever I'm going to do. So my question is, the stainless steel is now bare without it's factory coating so will it be prone to rust over time?
Wow, I just love it. The Tumbler came out terrific. I can’t wait to try this. Thank you again. Plus I love your energy. I’m telling you if anybody was feeling down in the dumps all they have to do is watch one of your videos and you definitely would turn anybody’s frown upside down to a huge smile you have a great heart thank you again for what you do and sharing all your terrific talent with everyone.
My son in law and I did this and they turned out SO good! We did find that the tumblers we used from Michaels took closer to an hour for the citristrip to work. We had such fun doing this. I love the turner idea for a full wrap.
After you have etched the tumbler, do you recommend putting some kind of clear coating/sealant over it to keep the rest of the paint from peeling around the design?
That's my question also because the paint stripper is essentially removing the painted coating from the tumbler. I wonder what happens to the edges over time without some type of sealant.
Hi Michael! I'm new to your channel, just joined ystrdy. I do not own a cricut yet, but in my research came across your channel and have watched a few of your videos. Love your energy!! I will definitely continue watching and hopefully soon will be getting my first cricut. Thank you for making it so easy for a pre-beginner
Hi Cathy, I'm new to Michael's channel too and think hes an absolute legend. P.s. Thanks Michael for your vids, just love them. All the way from Australia :)
Michael, I liked this tutorial a lot. Thank you again for your patience and great skills. I always learn something new from you. By the way you look good with or without the hat. Till next time. Stay crafty.😉💜
Thank you so much for this! I'm so glad you mentioned the five and below tumblers because that's what I literally plan to use in making some gifts for my bridesmaids!
I just tried this and I'm absolutely in love with this technique. I used the tumbler you linked and it only took about 10 minutes to complete. I can't wait to get more tumblers to do more :)
I'm finding that CitriStrip is melting my permanent vinyl stencils. Tried Oracal 651, Cricut, and HDVront. Is there a known brand/style that doesn't do this?
Unfortunately We can't get citristrip in Australia and getting it off Ebay the price is not cheap and the postage which ranges between $60aud ($39usd ) to $133aud ($88.43usd)
Hi Michael, I just finished watching your video "NEW" best way to etch tumblers from Cricut. What is the name of the Tumbler Spinner that you use? I don't need all the fluff just what you were using as I can only imagine how much it makes crafting simpler. Thank you so much for your help.
Please help me!!! I tried this twice and the citristrip is eating through the vinyl as well, so I end up with a huge blob of paint stripping off. I'm using permanent vinyl from dollar tree. Please help me! What am I doing wrong? I really want to do this right. Thanks!!
Can’t wait to try this. It came out perfect. Have you made a video using the silver sublimation tumblers? And can you do something like this one using the Joy?
Michael or Mr. Crafty Pants, I have recently watched a video on Etching that you provided to us on RU-vid using the Ferric Chloride. Which one would you say was the easiest and/or cheaper way to go...in your opinion?
A dear friend brought me some citri strip while visiting us in Toronto since it isn't sold here and I have no idea if the stuff sold here would work due to being a different formulation. About to try out the citri strip on my project today. I am using the arctic brand tumbler sold on Amazon. it is cheaper than a yeti and keeps things hotter longer. Wish me luck.
A dear friend brought me some citri strip while visiting us in Toronto. I am not sure if the stuff we get here would work the same. I am using the Arctic brand tumbler which apparently keeps things hotter longer than a yeti and is cheaper. Going to do my first one today,
I've done a couple of these now and after my tests I just leave the Citrus Strip for a couple of hours. I just set it and come back when I get a chance later. It hasn't failed yet.
That does seem to work pretty well for most of the tumblers I tried, but I did run into one issue with that when I was doing some tests. One of the tumblers where I left it on for hours had the citristrip eat under the vinyl and ruin the design. When I tried it again on the same type of tumbler I left it on for about 15 minutes and it was perfect. Just something to keep in mind. 😊
Powder-Coated Stainless Tumbler (these are not the exact tumblers I used, so be sure to do a spot test on whichever tumblers you decide to go with): mrcraftypants.co/powder
Oh my gosh I tried this for a project for work. The tumbler was textured and when I tried this the black just became like rubber and it all ripped off 😢I’ll try this again
aww i'm so sorry to hear that! Sometimes the citristrip technique can be a little bit of trial and error depending on the type of tumbler you have. Hope this next try works out for you! 🤩
My friend sent me your link today. She did some tumblers before but knows I like crafting.Your tumblers turned out amazing! I may try sometime...Then I got caught up watching your you tube videos.lol.A lot of fun ideas for me for sure.
Hi Michael - thanks for posting. I’m nervous about using etching creme & similar as I’ve read some pretty scary safety concerns. Wondering if you compared the Citrus strip with regular etching creme & how they compare in terms of safety. Also, do you know if there are other products that gives an etch like result without the safety concerns? Please know I don’t intend to malign any product or person who uses them, but looking for options for those of us who are less comfortable using them. Thanks!
Hi I'm new to your channel, you give me so much inspiration 💗 iv recently bought a cricut joy. I'm having terrible trouble trying to get the sizing rite. I measure what I need. But I am finding it won't let me do the write measurement. It keeps changing when I'm just about to cut it. And also I can't figure out how to do multiple. I'm so confused with it all as its all really new to me. Iv never owned a cricut before, that's why I decided to start with the cricut joy. Is there any advice you can give me please I would really appreciate it 🙏 💖
Yaaaaaaas just tried this with a simple modern tumbler and obsessed with the results. Thanks so much for sharing. my new favorite way to personalize tumblers now.
Doing this on a simple modern tumbler is genius! Do you have any tips for letting the citrus strip sit for those tumblers? I would love to do the same!
We don't get Citristrip in South Africa unfortunately. I can't find a gel paint stripper but I have a regular paint stripper. Going to try that. Hard to find an inexpensive powder coated bottle to try it out on though. You guys really do have so many cool crafting supplies at your disposal.
This would be perfect for the kids water bottles! I don’t have to worry about them picking at the vinyl. Do you know if the aerosol can of this would work?
Love this project! I have mine in progress right now. Its been more than an hour and the finish is not coming off yet. I purchased the tumblers that were linked. Any ideas?
Love it! Don’t know if Australia has the Citrus stuff but will check it out. I just bought two silver tumblers so I guess I am sticking vinyl name and bits to those. I am still trying to get fonts into my nasty mint green terrorist. It hates me. Thank you. 🦋
Am I able to use a different brand of gel stripper or do I need to use Citrostrip gel? Can this method be used on spray painted tumblers or do they need to be powder coated tumblers? I ask because I do my tumblers with spray paints mostly.
I tried this twice with 2 different types of permanent vinyl and both times the citristrip made the vinyl shrivel up and it ruined the tumbler. What did I do wrong?
Watched replay, tried this one worked one did not. I didn't know that it would not work on all stainless steel tumblers. Now I know to do a test spot. Again thank you for your help.
