Been with you for a long time now and still enjoying all your different car videos, great reviews by all the team, you're a star Thomas (you know it!), great English too :-)
I have an xDrive45e. This is a great car. We are limited to 30 miles EV range in the US due to a reduced battery capacity. I would love to know why BMW did this and if they could please make it the same capacity as you guys have in Europe in the near future.
Hybrid cars are not designed to stay & doomed to fail. After all why carry two power train every where , pay two maintenance, pay for two fuels, two headaches only to achieve one objective !!! And yet damage environment as there is no Tomorrow...Total madness. I guess taxi drivers & those travelling more than 300 miles a day could benefit from Hybrid cars.
I’m sorry but the notion of just 3.6kw onboard charging is just crazy for a 2019 model at the minimum it should have 7kw, but with such a premium model in there range why on earth didn’t bmw raid the parts from the i3 and include the 11kw charger. This stinks of just a compliance car
That is also my comment, especially looking at what others are doing. Do you know if in the future BMW will upgrade to 7kw or more to allow faster charges?
P.S.: I'm glad that BMW is following this course of action (building PHEVs) ... instead of going full electric. In my view ... the main sense of existence - of a car ... is to offer the maximum degree of mobility - to its owner. And ... with 2 sources of energy ... this goal is far more approachable. 👍
Excellent presentation, thank you. Beautiful car too. But thinking aloud, why carry around all the extra weight and the complexity of an internal combustion engine, with the high maintenance requirement, when as I understand there are batteries available with a 5 to 600 KM autonomy and a life range of a million Km. Would it not make the X5 so much more desirable to just shove in bigger Batteries and dump the ICE like Tesla, and end up with a far more desirable SUV ?
Have the 2020 Range Rover sport p400e and it has a 7kw on board charger, which is noticeably better than the x545e, regarding charging times. Mind you the range on RRS is at 51km compared to 80km on the BMW. But driving the two on overnight test drives before purchasing, it seems a lot more easy to keep the RRS in all electric mode. I assume this is due to the RRS having a 105kw electric motor compared to the 83kw BMW electric motor. The RRS has 297kw vs BMW 290kw combined power output, which made The BMW feel slightly more responsive. They are both great vehicles, with seemless petrol/electric integration. It really came down to how both vehicles made me feel and how they look.
Hello ! Thanks for the video - very nice, as always. My question : do you feel the overweight of the batteries in the handling ? Do you think that will make a change on twisty roads / dynamic feel of the car ? Thanks :)
Do you know if the drive mode can be set to stay in pure EV mode? I have a 535e and it defaults each time to edrive after starting with no option for the default mode to be user set. Not a deal breaker but rather annoying. I am looking for an upgrade in August to get the 50-60 miles electric range.
what model year is your 535e? I do know that Mercedes went for this solution now with the GLE 350de PHEV, that you re-start in electric mode when you ended it in electric mode. Not sure what BMW did there now. I gotta check
so can you drive in hybrid mode all the time to prevent the battery from depleted completely ? Or you always need to deplete the electric before engine kicks in (unless you drive > 80km/hr ? or something like that)
Can you get a spare tire as an option on this model? It looked like there was no space under the floor in the trunk for this model to be optioned with one.
Is the sport exhaust available on this model, as you can have it on 40i? I have recently heard sport exhaust on 40i and it doesnt sound special at all. Porsche Cayenne is much better sounding. What are your thoughts?
@@autogefuel It is not available. I have ordered this car two weeks ago... if you would need any additional info related to this model, feel free to ask. Thanks for a great review.
Soon i hope you make a review about my ordered car, the x3 30e. Then you could explain me why bmw put the charging plug to the drivers side ? Would be more practical other side
thanks for this another informative review!! I live in Dublin and have 3 young kids and as a family we are looking to buy our first hybrid plug in 2 litre engine. We are stuck between this x5, the Range Rover R dynamic Velar or the Mercedes GLC, in terms of reliability and performance which would recommend, which should i stay away from and are there any others you would recommend? Thanks in advance.
thanks for following! Well the GLC is rather vs the X3 which will also be available als PHEV, the X5 rather vs GLE which we had as PHEV here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KoW9Xx1i-cQ.html
Size is question ,glc is sized as x3 and if you look x5 then alternative is gle. Both of which have just half seat in back so not so great for three kids. Unless you go with optional third row but then electric version is not offering it. Check size first and how to best fit family inside.
