haha The Night side of the River by Jeanette Winterson was also released a month ago here in the Netherlands in Dutch before the English release, . I don't know why! She was a guest at a literature festival 2 weeks ago and she was very fun to listen to!
Ooh so many new titles to choose from - you really do spoil us! 😊 For me, I am particularly intrigued by Paradise Rot, Chlorine, The Delivery and My Work - all sound fabulous in their own way 😇 I also just wanted to say I finished Please Do Not Touch this Exhibit over the weekend and honestly, this was one of the best poetry collections I have ever read - incredibly raw, haunting but beautifully-captured - I loved it ❤ thank you for sharing this with us xx
Love to see so many Verso Books titles! I have Bluebeard's Castle on pre-order. I'm personally looking forward to The Possessed by Witold Gombrowicz (tr. Antonia Lloyd-Jones), Twice Lost by Phyllis Paul, and The Girls by John Bowen, which are all being (re)released over the next couple months! :)
not me getting absolute goosebumps hearing the synopsis for the new Jeanette Winterson, oh boy! off I go to preorder… I’m obsessed with the cover design of National Dish - I’ve seen it everywhere and can’t wait to grab a copy! the perfect holiday gift ♥️
Super excited to hear your thoughts on Torto Arado by Itamar Vieira Junior! This book has become a literary phenomenon here in Brazil like I haven't seen in a long while and I'm happy to see it reaching new audiences through translation. Also, can't wait to read the new Olga Ravn. I read The Employees based on yours and then Alison Paiges' recommendation and really enjoyed it. Hope you have a wonderful October!
Today I was at our big local book fair and bought My Work, cause I remembered you recommended Ravn’s writing. And here is your new video talking about this book :) At the same time, I am so sad that I didn’t see your video PRIOR the fair, as I saw some of your new books there (with good prices). Also, I read Sofia Petrovna, it is a rather depressing one with no happy end, which makes total sense (as it is about political repressions in life of ordinary people), might be chosen for a specific mood.
I listened to Katherine Rundells WHy You Should Read Childrens Books recently so have just bought ebook and audio package. Looking forward to reading and listening. Thanks for recommendation.
Could you leave this comment on the ‘if you liked this book, read this book’ video? Just because I’ll be going back there to get all the requests and I don’t want it to get lost ☺️ x
Hi Jen, so weird, I just saw the new book of Jeanette Winterson's tales today in Waterstones, Sheffield so maybe they're ahead of the curve. I'm currently part way through her 12 bytes and nearly finished Joan Didion's Slouching towards Bethlehem. Planning a reread of Angela Carter's Magic Toyshop alongside your Please do not touch this Exhibit for Scary Season. That cover is perfect for it... loving this video, thanks 🌠
Unless books are embargoed, bookshops can put stock out early if it arrives ahead of schedule (although this is sometimes frowned upon for bestseller list reasons) x
The Lodgers sounds interesting to me, and The Fox and the Star would be a great gift for my mom. I just bought Museum Bums: A Cheeky Look at Butts in Art by Mark Small (pub September 2023 in the USA) as a gift for friends, and I'm looking forward to the February 2024 release of How to ADHD: An Insider's Guide to Working with Your Brain by Jessica McCabe.
It’s not something I’d make a video on because it’s not my area of expertise but I’m not impressed that Meta has stolen one of my books (along with thousands of others) to teach AI how to write. xx
I'm not surprised you're not impressed! It all seems like a bit of a quagmire at the moment. Anyway, thanks for all your videos - I'm not generally a commenter but I love listening to them. Probably shouldda said that in my previous comment but hey ho - shouldda wouldda couldda ...😀
