Kirk Fletcher is who I wanna be when I grow up ( I,’m 64 years old)I’ve told him to his face……. He told me OH, NO, NO, NO……. he is an awesome person. He once spent about 10 min with my son (about 12 at the time) lending my son one of HIS guitars. He was in Between sets. He played a lick, my son played it back. Kirk just cracked up that my son could play it back. These days I could NEVER get up on stage with Kirk, but, my son ( age 35) could get up with Kirk and play. Some of that is because he took Kirk’s advice to keep playing and practicing……… like I said Kirk is an incredible human being………… love you Kirk!
Good choice to have Kirk Fletcher demo this amp. Authentic, great vocals, easy to understand and very likable. Didn't over sell it, plus a good manicure. I watched the full 14 mins due to him and his blues playing skills. Loved the benefit of pushing the mic back for that vintage jazz sound. If it's good enough for Kirk, it's good enough for me. Ordering mine today.
Stellar demo. I could listen to Kirk play all day long, and talk too! Such a likeable dude. His enthusiasm for the amp is palpable. The new pushed sound is cool. All in all, Katana's are great amps that cover a lot of sonic ground and I always recommend them for people who are starting out or for people who want an easy grab-and-go amp or anyone really who just wants a decent amp for sub 500 dollars.
They've really outdone themselves with the new voicing on the clean as the compression sounds like what I want out of a clean channel and the added pushed amp. Especially now that cleans and pushed have become quite important to me and sold me on the Katana.
Just got a Gen 3 Kat 50- lovely. I did a lot of gigs with a Kat 50 Mk1 since 2017, and they just keep going and sound great, and survived a couple of falls out of the van. Don't see a need for any other amp. After years of lugging heavy tube amps around, I now don't miss 'em a bit.
Pretty great video! Glad they focused on blues and not metal like most boss products. I have the MK2 100 1x12, I gigged out with it regularly for year now and it’s better than any tube amp I’ve ever taken out. It’s got great tones at any or no volume on stage and the foot controller opens it up to being a great versatile tool. I’m not saying it’s better sounding than a tube amp being pushed, but it’s better in the fact I can dial in my tone and when asked to turn down it’s as good with low volume as it is cranked. Tube amps are not like that.
I have a Katana 50 and a Boss eband amp and connected the two and magic happened! Boss has got to follow up on that eband idea with a bigger screen and more drum accompaniment and whatever else they can throw in there!!😎🤘Gen 5.
Awesome demo. The pushed setting sounds great. Never liked the clean setting on the older models. I would love to do a side by side comparison with my Roland Blues Cube Hot. I may have to pull the trigger on this amp.
I also have a blues cube hot and am contemplating getting this amp. But I’m hesitant because I sold my katana 100 mkii and got the Roland amp shortly after. Remembering how much better I thought the blues cube sounded over the katana makes me cautious about buying another katana amp. But they have worked on and improved the sound on gen 3 so maybe I will give it another try someday. Still don’t think it will beat what I’m getting out of my Roland amp. Won’t ever be getting rid of the Roland amplifier but still somewhat interested in the new gen 3 katana’s. Cheers
Such a missed opportunity. The katana Go has a small LCD screen that allows for a tuner and to see what effect is selected so you don't have to carry a crib sheet to see what effect "yellow" is. It's their own design! Why isn't it in the Katana? Such a shame.
It's basically a modeller-multi effect unit with a speaker attached in a little cab when all is said and done I think. Boss make better modellers as stand-alone's that produce much more flexibility in my experience. Hearing it used here only in blues tones is not a great example of it's other capacity across the board.
Sorry to say, I had that amp and gigged with it one night and hated it. traded it in the next day for The Artist MK2. Killer amp!! I would think the Gen 3 would blow the Mustang away as well. I am going to get the Artist Gen 3. pre-ordered it June 4th
@@johnalfieri1613I'm tending to agree... I just don't feel like it would handle high frequency.. high gain or high anything at a suitable high output level. As far as using to record vua USB on my computer... it sounds great!.
@@x--LeethaL--x You hit the nail on the head. I was a bit harsh. I would not have purchased it if I did not like how it sounded. It is a great amp but NOT for a live situation i.e. rock & roll band/ I mic/d it so it may have been fine to the audience but it was thin and straining behind me. It drove me crazy. So I am an Artist guy now. Sounds full and rich behind me and to the audience
Does this guitar amp have some good bass from the woofers? Like 12 inch woofer? If the back is fully open, that means no bass from it?? I thought closed enclosures would make more bass but if the back is fully open, no bass ability?
Love your tone, love your playing. Your gold top tones remind me of Bruce Conte’s ‘57 gold top that he used with Tower Of Power. Great demo of the Kat gen3. They are great amps for the money. Thanks for sharing.
The first time I saw Kirk play was at a Kid Ramos gig in Fullerton at Stubricks steakhouse. The late GREAT LYNWOOD SLIM fronted the band for the first set. Kirk was in the back corner playing rhythm for Kid. I thought, what’s all this stuff I have been hearing, Kirk Fletcher? He’s not THAT great……..The second set was fronted by the great Kim Wilson, they were about three songs in, Kid started to go into a solo, Kim gave Kid a cross throught sign and pointed to Kirk…….. I found out what kind of a MUSICIAN Kirk is,I have to ask….. Kirk, how much did the roof that you BLEW OFF cost you that night?????? Although he is too humble, he will never admit how GREAT of a blues player he is!!!!!!!
Finally, some blues/roots tones out of a Katana! I think the Line6 Catalyst is still ahead in that department, and has XLR out. Five simultaneous stereo effects on the Gen 3 Katana is a definite plus, though. So much value at a beginner price point!
The problem with the Catalyst is it is line 6.....I have some other Roland/boss gear. And Roland/boss really infuriates me sometimes. But they're stuff is just bulletproof.
bought the artist mk ll 9 months ago. bought the artist gen lll last week from G.C. Yes, the added features are worth it. Unfortunately 😂😂😂. However, connecting them together? Sweet! Low volume dream come true.
Nice amp. But I purchased a Catalyst in 2021 because of the tests Andertons made. Especially because of the sweet blues tones and medium gain tones. In that ball park, the Catalyst is way better than this Katana.
