Along with the West Kirby service there are 8 trains an hour on the Birkenhead North to Liverpool Central section and an additional 6 trains an hour from Chester/Ellesmere Port between Hamilton Square and Liverpool Central all of which go the same way round the loop serving all stations forming 14 trains an hour between Hamilton Square to James Street to Moorfields to Lime Street to Central to James Street to Hamilton Square section of the Wirral line. All services are operated by Merseyrail.
There is interchange with the Northern Line at Moorfields and Central with services to Hunts Cross, Kirkby, Ormskirk and Southport. There is interchange with the City lines (operated by Northern) at Lime Street as well as other national rail services operated by Northern, Avanti West Coast, TransPennine Express, Transport for Wales, London Northwestern Railway and East Midlands Railway.
The rolling stock on this Merseyrail route is currently 3 carriage class 507 and class 508 trains which sometimes operate as 6 carriage services. This route is double track between New Brighton and Liverpool James Street where the loop is single track with all services going the same way round the loop.
