This is my review of a new home built in the UK by a property developer. This home is composed of a series of missed opportunities, questionable decisions and bland spaces held together by mediocre interior fittings. #ukconstruction #ukhomes #ukproperty #homereview #housereview #luxyryrealestate #ukhousingmarket #housedesign #homedesign

I agree with the majority of your comments on this and other vids, but not the idea of entry directly into the living space. I think that a great many people don’t want to open their front door to all and sundry so they can peer into their home. Personally I prefer a dedicated lobby/entry space that keeps my privacy and security from further intrusion and an initial place for disrobing and dirt management from the outside rather traipsing everything through to a deeper dedicated space. Perhaps a comparison video of your thoughts and arguments for and against the lobby would be good one. Thanks.

I agree, I like to have an 'airlock' between the outside and my living space

That looks like a fire department station near me ... just make the doors taller for the trucks.

The problem is less the house and more the development. Many who can't afford this house would love to move in. Think of the car industries concept cars in comparison to the productions cars we're forced to choose from. As I say the problem is the development, having 20 or more identical to reduce costs and effort but meet the expectations of sufficient people to be rid of them and pay the bonuses. Many will be unable to identify differences of this and the Brazil house from the inside and the exterior is largely different due to the climate so many will be confused. I can only hope that the developer is struggling to move them because there does need to be a change in the house building model in the UK, cheers.

What do you think of the Poundbury approach? Maybe on a smaller scale. There seems to be growing interest in pre modernist housing, see the aesthetic city etc. There's something to be said for these older styles being more sustainable since people have liked and maintained them for generations. Can modernist open plan work inside these or is that a problem?

We see it on this side of the pond, too. People have been complaining for years. They want broad, open spaces with lots of light -- within reason, of course; the electric bill can be higher than the proverbial cat's back, after all. The worst offense is, as you said, water running down the steps and into the house. Shame on the design team for not putting in a French drain or some other way of stopping the water.

As a carpenter I hate UK new build houses with a passion. Most big house builders seem to get one maybe 2 plans approved and build hundreds of the horrible things on one site. I could understand it if they were building rows and rows of terraced houses like the Victorians/ Edwardians did, but at least those houses had character and were thought out. These new builds are rubbish and will never last 100+ years, and the quality of the finish on them is horrendous. No doubt with that wall paper was bought by the QS as it was probably going cheap as an end of line thing. I remember years ago designers / architects used to design gardens to have the flow of water away from the houses, now they all seem to design them to have the water flow towards the house and put aco drains in. A lot of them need to go back to school and learn the basic principles again.

Same, Carpenter here, I do majority new build and I'm always astounded when see the prices on houses I've worked on especially compared to the shocking prices offered by some sites. They'll try to squeeze every penny out of the trades then sell these houses for absolutely stupid prices. You're better off buying something well built and renovating

@@iplayzthegames6968 I had to work on a Persimmon house about 9/10 years ago, not the main build but some external brick cladding as apparently the chippies on site had no idea how to do it. One night it poured down and flooded the one house as the roof wasn't watertight, all they did was sweep the water out of the house and carried on with the taping/jointing even though the plasterboard was completely soaked up to about 300mm off the floor. That 1.5 storey house was just under £300k at the time.

@@carlb401 site I've been ok today, I was putting in window boards and got dripped on. The dormer was leaking, happened in both plots I did, I somewhat understand why they've had to rip all the skirting and architrave out of 7 of the 20 plots so far. It all went mouldy and I can guarantee it's the same thing

large volumed properties do not necessarily equate luxury but then again its the easiest and cheapest way for developers to market their products as luxurious properties.

This big airy house feels oppressive and suffocating and people are going to stub their feet in that hallway. Wasted opportunity

Enjoying these, thanks. Hat worries me most about new builds is just the quality of the build itself: i’ve seen such terrible construction.

As always, British developers fail to present a good design. Pointless, ugly, and idiotic layouts and carpets on the stairs are the biggest laugh.
