Close call. Fortunately you both (and other road users) are safe. Silver lining is it was a set of lug nuts not torqued so despite the close call, financially and mechanically, not a big deal. Stay safe for the rest of the journey. Treat the Celica like you do your wife (a lady) and she will always bring you home.

That just happened to me on my Celica a week ago. Two lug nuts broke loose on my rear. That sound is terrifying driving at any speed. Glad everyone is safe and sound.

Dammn.. Glad your okay... Mitch it is a cruise control switch. it has happen to me two of my toyota vehicles all I did was replace the switch.. it happens when you get in and out of the vehicle your right knee hits the on/off switch

Wow bro close call there, the same exact thing happened to me Tuesday I was speeding on the highway, then came off and while driving on the minor road I heard clucking sounds I thought my control arm or something was broken, I stop and check underneath nothing get back in the car a drive same noise I call a friend of mine he just check the wheel lugs and there it was all nuts was loosen up and 1 lug was broken 😮

Yes! We were charges $368 for tow & lug nuts. The dealership never called back or paid bill. Oh well. We keep moving forward!

Does your light for your cruise control flash on and off as you hit the button? If it does its the big donut spring in your steering wheel behind the airbag....I promise you!!

Check if the aftermarket wheels need the hubcentric rings between the rim and hub. I have seen it where they were torqued down but ever so slightly out, the small movement was enough to loosen the nuts. Btw, Hi from Western Australia.
