Here is my latest design on the Celtic mandolin theme. After developing the big Celtic F and Celtic O mandolins I've taken the lessons learned about arching and bracing and applied them to the more conventional Sobell-sized Celtic mandolin.
The result is an O model mandolin with a little more projection and woodiness than you normally find. I'm really happy with the design.
This little mandolin is my "proof of concept" - the top is old Czech spruce - the back is a curved lamination of western red cedar sandwiched between maple. The double sides are made of maple and New Guinea rosewood. The neck is mahogany, the head veneers are ebony. The ebony fretboard is bound with rocklite. The hand polished frets are Evo gold. The body is bound with rocklite. The satin finish is both thin and robust, the tuners are German - satin steel, made by Rubner. The instrument comes in a Hiscox mandolin case and will be shipped in a plywood crate.
