Instead of regurgitating, why don’t you explain your conclusions? Why do you think the old format is better? Why do you think this is like the super league?
@TheOvieShow I'm not OP but I myself have a few reasons not supporting this at all. teams have to play more games, players are likely to get more fatigued and increase the chance of injury plus, past records will be more easy to break as more games being played=more goals individual players can score in the tournament, assists, whatever records (I think it's the main reason uefa gave the award to ronaldo today) plus, more games being played at the early stages means that there are increased chances of strong teams to face off each other right at the start of the competition. Fans love to watch strong teams go head to head, and with that happening more often now, it just increases more views for the competition thus earning UEFA more money, instead of caring for teams and players, purely from the greed for money I do think the new format allowed teams not from the major leagues to compete with a better chance, and it did increase the overall competitiveness by a little but the impact it has on teams playing more games is not easily irreversible. In the 23/24 season players and coaches were already complaining about too many games, and now the new ucl format, it's highly likely things are going to turn worse for football, making it jist a money farm for businessmen and higher ups. Also the 2026 world cup has a new format, so i imagine 2026 will be absolutely terrible for football.
When you constantly change the formats of competitions, it ruins the legacies of the players of the past… We’ll scream “X broke Ronaldo’s UCL record” or “Messi’s most goals in a calendar year record” but when you constantly add games, it becomes more possible, and no one will care. They’ll just remember the “winner” as always is the case with history.
more games mean more injury, more fatigue, worse form. Plus the stats of goal ratio, assist ratio etc is there to save the reputation of your beloved messi or ronaldo. You have lots of people that have never seen Peele and still think he was the greatest so dont worry too much about it.

This is pure garbage....sporting merit....why? Honestly as much as i love my team, even though they arent in champions League, i dont want to see teams based on merit....if your the champion of a country's league you should be competing against the other champions of other countries... champions league, not champions league plus 5 places behind....
This is the start of the European Super league. The initial format was a distraction to what they really had planned which is this. Just you wait.. they will get huge funding and put together a league structure that all the top leagues feed into and you will see Liverpool, United, city etc leave the premier league to join the European leagues
Uefa: "We gonna give you exciting matches". Fans: What is so exciting to watch Real vs Dortmund 2 years in a row, What is so exciting to watch Real vs Liverpool when they faced 4-5 times in last 5 years. Personally, this format sucks and it would better if UEFA stick with 32 teams format and scrapped 3rd team playing in Europa League. Anyway, at the end of the season it's the same thing. The rich club winning the trophy and of course UEFA officials make error mistakes and favoring 1 team or another. Basically UEFA is just telling us, We don't care about any players or fans as long as we are pocketing more money.

People are saying this is worse, this is for me slightly better 1) even before a ball is kicked in the group stages, we know where certain teams are going to finish in their group and who will be in the quarter finals, Bayern Munich by their standard finished 3rd in Bundesliga and they still top their group and made it to the semi final, in the pokal they were knock out in the second round by a team in the 3rd tier of German football. 2) The last 16 isn't the best 16, a team can finish in third and have more points and a better goal difference to someone else who came second 1998 World Cup Spain had 4 points with a goal difference of +4 3rd Chile had 3 points with a 0 goal 2nd difference 2019-20 champions league Ajax had 10 points with a goal difference of 6; Lyon 8 points, Dortmund same points but a goal difference of 0, Atletico Madrid same points with a goal difference of 3, Atalanta 7 points with minus 4, Spurs 10 with a 4 goal difference 2023-24 Champions league Shakhtar Donetsk 9 points 3rd PSG 8 points, and Copenhagen 8 points both 2nd 3) Unless the unseeded team took a sledge hammer and battered the seeded team, it doesn't matter as the seeded team always has the advantage with the second leg being at home.
If each team play 8 group stage games, 4 home 4 away , how can the guy say they play 8 different teams, isn't it suppose to be 7 games , they themselves are the 8th team...ot 9 in a group if you playing 8 different games per group
There’s no groups buddy. All 36 teams are placed in one league table. But each team has their own run of 8 opponents that they will face. 4 of those games they get to play at home and 4 away. The pot system is used to make these 8 game runs more balanced. Each team will play against two pot 1 teams, two pot 2 teams, two pot 3 teams and two pot 4 teams.
Why ppl in comments are są opposed? It's much better. In old format you only playing 6 matches with only 3 teams. Now they are playing with 8 different teams!!! Imagine those big matches that are comming!!!

It’s at most two extra games per team as a worst case scenario. And this could help mix/randomize teams that compete in the round of 16. So, for all those who are crying about it. Maybe try accepting some change in your life.
