Introducing the Porsche 963 GTP - available with next weeks Season 4 build! After a five-year hiatus from top-level prototype racing, Porsche returned to the discipline in 2023 with the all-new 963 for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship's GTP class. Partnering with Multimatic to construct the chassis, the 963 made its racing debut at the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona with Porsche Penske Motorsport, and more teams have begun to adopt the car around the world as the season has continued. Penske's Mathieu Jaminet and Nick Tandy gave the car its first win at Long Beach in its third start of the IMSA season.
Powered by Porsche's 4.6 liter, twin-turbocharged V8, the 9RD engine that powers the 963 makes over 670 horsepower. As with other GTP cars, the car weighs 1,030 kg and features a spec 50kW hybrid system.

@@Jeffrey7 basically, IRL, the power output is capped and monitored at the driveshaft. All of the cars are capable of reaching "maximum powah" with the engine alone. When the hybrid's "deployed", it reduces engine power to save fuel and makes up the remainder with the hybrid system to reach the capped power output with reduced fuel usage. In Iracing, the hybrid system acts as a "boost" - on top of the full power output from the engine - as in the R18, etc. That changes both the way you drive (moving brake markers back when you're on a fresh battery, etc) as well as overall fuel strategy in endurance events.

@@MrRaphaelLippi I don't have any insider info, but my guess is that it was a conscious choice to avoid a million "my boost thingy on the new car isn't working" support emails lol. 🤷 It's a WAG. Edit: it also makes it useful in sprint races, so there's that too 🤷

I hate to be that guy and don't get me wrong, the car is a great addition, but it's pretty poor that we still don't appear to have hybrid starts among the GTP class. If I was IMSA, I'd be knocking heads together at iRacing to get it implemented. The use of hybrid out of the pit box and then bump starting the ICUs is one of the fan favourite features of this new formula.

They confirmed they will up the max. amount of cars "substantially". I'm hoping it will be something like 15, because that opens up new possibilities for the Mustang GT3 and other GT3's aswell!

Hello, Is it going to be slower than a Dallara P217 (LMP2). Cause 1.11-1.12 laptime is like 4s off the pace of it and 8s off of an actual LMDH. Thanks :)

Lap times are high subject to battery SOC, deployment, and temperatures. You can expect that the performance will mirror real life in reference to the other cars in the class. I suspect iracing will start adding a slight BOP to keep all the cars viable for the sake of the series not turning into a one make cup or each car will have a significant charter trate that will make them better at certain aspects (easier or hard to bring the tires to temp, more or less pointy by default ect) to keep things fresh

PLEASE UPDATE / FIX SEBRING! T17 track out does not have banking in real life, and T1 entry/pit exit wall does not drift off to the right in real life. It throws everyone off that drives this track in real life and it should be a simple fix!
