New Cops follows a platoon of recruits through training at the Philadelphia Police Academy and returns three years later to ride with the same officers to see how they do the job and what the job does to them.
Luce partner Andy Chan was seriously injured last year on his Highway wheel. Suffered a severe head injury. Andy is a great guy and was real involved in the Asian community reach out.
@@RonKanter I thought you put the two fart incidents with Luce in on purpose. At first it makes you think he's an immature dude who isn't even going to make it through the academy. Come to find out throughout the movie that he's probably the most mature out of all the other cadets you followed. Its clear through his retelling of getting in a shooting that he understands the seriousness and the complexity of emotions one goes through when they're forced to take another human life. He also touches on how the job caused his first marriage to fall apart because he "brought a lot of stuff home." Actually seems like a tortured dude. Sense of humor is just a defense mechanism.
@@rupertpumkin8903 This is a thoughtful analysis of what we see of Joe Luce. Mature maybe. Complex definitely. A good example of how the Job affects a cops life in every way possible.
PHILADELPHIA - A federal jury, today, returned guilty verdicts on all counts against Rahim Henderson, 38, of Philadelphia, PA, in connection with a counterfeit credit card manufacturing operation. Henderson, a former Philadelphia Police Officer, was convicted of conspiracy, wire fraud, access device fraud, and multiple counts of aggravated identity theft.
additional comment is that I cannot believe that there are not more strict physical fitness standards for police! the military has them and are graduated by age on a yearly basis of performance . How can an officer perform when he?she cannot get out of their car ? or draw their weapon?
This video is from 2001-2002 timeframe for the rookie part and then May of 2006 for the 5 year return because P/O Gary Skerski was killed May 8th 2006.
Obstructing a highway? On a sidewalk? Only one who is obstructing a roadway is the police car sitting there for an unlawful detainment. I'm not familiar with Pennsylvania code but that doesn't sound right.
Just FYI. This documentary is pretty dated. I am guessing 10-15 years old at least. Maybe 20 since the Asian officer was hurt last year and the end of this video is 5 years later and last year was his 24th year on the job. DO some research before you just assume this is the way it is now.
How about YOU do some research, it is like this today. The reputation of Philly police is they are tyrants & they deserve it. Cops riding around stopping people for walking or standing on the sidewalk is tyrannical behavior. Learn your rights!
Funny how they put the graduation percentage up there but the quality of the other two far surpass the PPD’s 95% graduation rate. Of that 95% maybe 25-30% quality and with the State and Jersey it’s more 75-80% quality. Big difference and it remains to this day.
Philadelphia 💙💛God bless this city and have a blessed day everyone..Some of these cops are still working probably Yo yo you're resisting..😶🍿 God bless the good ones and have a blessed day brothers and sisters and enjoy this video..💚
Thank you for uploading this. Before this film, I struggled to understand why minority communities today have such distrust against the Law Enforcement. Now, I have a better grasp of the experience of being a minority in a poor neighborhood. Watching the grainy footage, I surely thought that we'd abandoned this policing style in the 80's/90's. Seeing a pop-up statistic from 2006 was shocking to say the least. With how recent this police behavior is, I totally get why certain members of the public even today choose not to cooperate with the police. Then there was the segment on class achievement and conduct during the academy. Absolutely shocking. Firstly, they can't even pass 7th grade English. Secondly, they're absolutely unprofessional with the pranks and childish conduct. Thirdly, one of the ladies in the beginning isn't familiar with the 1st amendment even though she is 60% of the way through the academy How in the world did 98% of them pass? God knows how many people have had their lawful rights violated since the release of this 12 years ago. These cops are probably still on the street 12 years later, with a 6 figure salary and pension to follow. Absolutely unbelievable. Edit: That guy at 54:04 was later sent to jail for 5 years for running a scam
GamerHeavy.. I Agree 100% Cops are tyrannical thugs with badges & these commentors are applauding them. The first minute of this film the cops harass a man for standing on the sidewalk! People think this is OK. it boggles my mind that anyone is ok with this level of violation. I suppose if it doesn't happen to them then it is OK but what they don't realize is they could be next. Keep exposing these tyrants & educating because it is very obvious people are not aware of our Bill of Rights. Well Done!!
I thought this was recent the fact that ths was decades ago yet they are using the same tactics in 2024 is insane to me! Welcome to my city of brotherly love 😢😢😢😢
I love the very first sgt. Giving them boys the opportunity to get locked up. You can tell hes old school back when you would get a little roughed up before you get to the station.
The thought that comes to mind for me when viewing this is, why on Earth would anybody want to become a police officer? The job looks miserable: constantly in conflict with people and I would imagine that they spend a lot of time looking over their shoulder because they deal with a lot of violence
Your thought is shared by many people. The Philadelphia PD and many others across the country are having trouble recruiting new officers at least partially for the reasons you point out. On the other hand, it is a career that offers an opportunity to help people and your community. The salary can be quite good and the benefits are often outstanding. For many men and women it is a family tradition of service and honor.
Wow this documentary was very informative the Philadelphia police Department has a lot of mentally disturbed psychotic people as police officers in the very scary part about it is they don’t even realize it .
There is a reason why that scene is at the beginning of the film. It shows the tremendous discretionary power cops have. And here we have an experienced cop training a rookie to use that power in a very questionable way. It is no wonder that attitudes among police are very hard to change.
@@Amivgr1 The film tries to show a wide range of "what it is like being a cop." Unfortunately, being a cop is not always what we hope to see in people whose job is the protect and serve.
@@Amivgr1 Nothing gives them the authority to violate people's constitutional rights for no reason. They don't do this racist shit in white neighborhoods. You must be a fucking republican.
i have a son he is a hero i thank God for a son like that he work hight is maybe God be With him every were he go and blessed him for help our peoples life every day on that job it is a big job and i hope he get ass every things i love my son he work all of time and a good hero for us all he wife make some women a good men because everybodys can't be that I be thank tor a son like that put his self on the link for his mom and father and siser and baby brother love him and his siser and mom to we love him and blessed and the boss men for help him be come somebodys a hero alway to peoples he is love
These are the fucking cops we need in America right now! Like the cop said, proactive policing is effective and stops crimes before they happen. This is exactly why crime is awful in every middle to large city in America right now.
All in all a nice video Asian guy is was a kind of hot head. Can’t figure out why they stopped the college stipulation but guess it was because they couldn’t get the bodies they needed. First they complain about but first they call.
The end they talk about respect if you treat people with respect you get respect just because you have a badge you think you can treat people like shit
@MOPARGuy So, if you assume someone is a criminal, you think that gives you authority or permission to treat them like shit? In today's world, that'll get you either a suspension, an internal affairs investigation, possibly a lawsuit or all of the above. You can be firm without being a jackass.
The beginning of this video was pure harassment by the police it was literally 2 guys standing outside on a corner and the police asked what are you doing which was obviously nothing and they bothered those guys and then arrested them this is why police is not respected that was horrible
Ron Kanter I personally plan to become a cop and I work with my local department. I absolutely hate the begging of the video. If this for pro cops or anti I can’t figure it out.
It was for the camera. That one fart cop is a straight up ASSHOLE-Born and raised in Philly,I remember the truly abusive Rizzo era,ESPECIALLY in South Philly.THE City of Brotherly Love---
The cops that locked them guys on the corner is wrong asf, people should be able to stand outside and not harassed, then they didn’t even have a charge, making shit up
you cant be arrested/detained for not showing id or standing on a street corner in philly. and none of the following fits their definition of disorderly conduct
Pathetic to see how far we have fallen in our trust and respect for police,a small percentage is deserved however most is a gradual decline in society.
The difference between the being in the military and being a cop is that Privates in the military are always working under supervision. Rookie cops are often patrolling on their own or with another rookie. Cops have a lot more discretion than grunts. Some people are mature at 18, but most need a few more years to develop some judgement and experience. That's the reason that most police departments won't let 18-yearolds join up.
Now imagine you being 15 and this happens to you. We could literally just be chilling and the cops would harass you. We would be on my friends step just enjoying being outside and here comes a tyrant harassing innocent kids. They made us feel like we had to run every time we saw them.
Respectfully! Everyone that has family members that are cops law enforcement. Is knowledgeable of the truth that they are frightened babies even with guns tasers the backup they are frightened babies and that is frightening scary for America unfortunately it's a truth!
So why are these things cops riding around harassing guys minding their own business????😡. This is NOT a good look for Philly's cops. If you need something to do, go find all of those criminals running around this city wrecking havoc & terrorizing innocent people. That's not what y'all cops should be doing or getting paid for. And you wonder why some people don't like police.
The very beginning of the video they are already violating somebody's rights. Teaching a new recruit to harass and lock a guy up for no reason whatsoever. And they wonder why black people hate cops.
