Mega rich people can afford good accountants that legally save them from paying lots of tax. I imagine a TV show about accountants wouldn't be very popular...
And here I am, struggling by myself with Osteoporosis, and finding it difficult to get any help at all; It makes me wonder how Mrs. White is able to sleep at night. These offenders should be made to pay the money they stole back, and the jail sentences should be longer.
They are made to pay back the money they're owed. If they're an illegal then we can't ask them to repay the money, and if they declare themselves bankrupt then all debts are written off
I struggle too having a disabled young adult daughter and myself with chronic hidden illnesses to get any help and have to fight for what we are entitled to she should have had a longer jail sentence.

I personally know of a doctor who had a 3 bed council flat in London which he rented out. He also had his own private house where he lived. I bet he is not the only one. I think tenants in council properties should not be allowed to buy the property as is the case at present. If one can afford to buy then one can afford to buy property in the private sector releasing the council property to a family in need.
People who buy their council house are only able to do so because of the discount, which depends on the length of tenancy. So even though they might be able to afford the council house they certainly wouldn't be able to buy in the private sector.
Thank Thatcher for that. After allowing councils to sell their properties to individuals as well as property developers, from foreign shores even, they apparently weren’t allowed to replace like with like. Hence a serious social housing crisis, not helped by the waiting lists having been changed to “ by need”. A non ethnic family with a posse of kids freshly arriving can get priority of ethnics with less kids. The system is cracking up.
With over quarter of a million migrants on the move to go to Europe, how are the uk going to house these people, councils over uk have been told house them, here sixteen thousand waiting for a home, and the madness of daily migrants arriving by boat and lorry, they have priority because of big family's, and money provided for them ,yet we no homes no money so uk public is being fleeced in any way possible to meet this huge problem the eu started,

Of course! With most aspects involving social housing being contracted to the private sector, it's basically open season! Wouldn't be surprised if councils, Housing association officers collecting fees under the table from housing maintenance firms, in order to win contracts over other companies!
I lived with my Aunt' in a council house lovely garden front n back! Back in the 60 70 sure this stuff wasn't as prevalent...can't remember anyone from other lands living on our estate apart from a lovely Asian lady!
My wife and I have disabilities, mine being a severe and painful respiratory condition, this is beyond disgusting. Firstly it’s theft and secondly it gives the disabled community as a whole a bad name. I work 12.5 hours a week as that’s as much as I can manage, I can’t say how proud I am that I manage that. Employment gives you much more than money, it gives you a purpose. In my case the DWP is well aware of what I do, how many hours I work and how much I earn.
My wife is classed as high needs and I am her designated carer. Because of the high level of dependence I am on the punishment of Carers Allowance which thanks to Sunak allows me to top up my benefit set at £15 less than JSA a week by working 12 hours at NMW. Though I am quite capable of working myself I am limited by how far I can go for work as at any second I may be called on to get home to deal with my wifes needs. More power to you that you can work those hours and you are right it is not just the money. Keeping active and not being tied to you home by your problems helps you keep going. As you say the DWP watch every penny you get in order to reduce your benefit if you work five minutes over.

After 13 years ending up as the lead advisor at a Disabled Peoples Organisation I had to retire due to a deterioration in my heart and liver. I’m hoping to go back soon as an unpaid Trustee.
People like that big woman with a luxury flat and two businesses make me sick. It's not like she needed to cheat the system to get by even, she was well off. I am so glad she got actual jail time and not a suspended sentence like most benefit cheats get. The difference between her and the Paralympian at the end is night and day.

When i was looking to rent. I viewed house out side Maidstone. It was on a very large council estate. She did not want me to pay her by direct debit only cash each month. No contract as well. That was 9 years ago. I did not rent her house.
Prison sentences are rather pathetic, especially as some cheats can earn thousands in rent on top of their benefits. I know as I'm an investigator. Sometimes Social Landlords are just happy to get back the property with no further action which can be demoralising for staff and the efforts used.
How does a non-UK resident get access to social housing? How many others on the list also had "genuine need". Then the council wonders why there is so much fraud. Why don't the council call the Home Office? It seems they just accept the word and any documents as legit. As for the cafe woman, her doctor who signed her off with all her "ailments", needs to be investigated. Far too many Dr's giving out fake sick notes.

She did not get 3 years. She got 18 months which means she'll serve 9 months!!!!! Hell, she was so bothered, she went on a £9k cruise whilst on bail.... & they say crime doesn't pay....
I got housing through a Social Housing Association hen I as 55 and I had struggled in private rented. So to have a little bungalow with a little garden and have the aids and adaptations needed, fitted was beyond wonderful. I am in severe pain and my mobility is totally compromised, but I still pinch myself to know that this is my home for life and it is lovely, comfortable and safe. That these low lives are taking off the system and the individual who really needs that property makes me so angry. I know how it feels to wait for a property and the I know the relief of being given a tenancy for life and no-one should be able to stop that without full justice. the sentences in both these cases are pathetic!
It was so good to see that the lady with cerebral palsy was given good adapted accommodation. You could tell how much she valued and needed it. What a stark contrast to that wretched woman Mrs White, what a hard faced individual and consummate liar. Her sentence was very light considering she probably only served half of that time. I hope she is forced to pay back what she stole. 5 years of unused prescription drugs as well, that alone would have cost the NHS a lot.
I am seriously disabled and disinigrating. I have a very rare condition and can only get benefits at the lower rate. How does scandals like this happen? I have no idea how long I've got left? The DWP wont give me the benefits I should be getting. I'm 62 now. I can't believe what I'm seeing!
Hello David, I'm so sorry to hear that you have a rare diagnosis which as caused you to be disabled, that is something that we both have in common. You could contact your Citizens Advice Bureau which would put you in touch with the right agencies or welfare Rights organisationto, support people with disability. they can support you with all the paper work and the form that need to be filled in, over the telephone. You could also request a home visit from your GP who could make a referral to social services, for you to be assessed for any additional support. I do hope you get the support you deserve and additional financial support. God bless.
@@twingytwango6971 theirs no point! Most legal aid funded lawyers are full of hot air, I made the mistake of using legal funded solicitors and the firm closed down and my case fell through, I now have legal expenses insurances and I’ll know better next time.

Foreign nationals with leave to remain visa cannot access public funds: it is against UK legislation and it is stipulated on their residency cards. However, they pay tax and NI contributions.
It is disgusting - because so many people live deprived equality of lives, then you have the scammers and these types of people should be sent to prison for 10 years a type of lesson they will never forget the life experiences.

Sandwell council couldn’t run a chicken coop. How difficult is it to check with the home office if a person actually has permanent residence. Something fishy about that application.
Evil heartless woman I'm disabled at 44 and would give anythink not to be I'm housebound other than when my sister or 70 year old dad takes me out in my wheelchair and then I only can manage an hour out cuz of pain I suffer mental health badly as I have no life these people make it so hard for true disabled to get the help u need I m in tears that these people do this I pay my bills have 2 grownup kids it's hard so hard. I'm glad they r catching these people

@@FayCreative PIP was a Labour idea btw. Contact your doctor and talk to them. You don't have to apply without an advocate and I would strongly suggest no one does. Get it touch with all the specialists and get them to send you a letter listing your disabilities. The interview is by far the worst bit but if you have an advocate they can sit in and help you. Sounds like you should be on higher rate. It is worth doing since any life long illness will not get reviewed once you get the proper level of benefit. It also helps if you have a high flying consultant or professor dealing with you as the DWP do run away from them.
As someone who lives in social housing who is on Permanent Disability, it sickens me how people can just be so greedy. How do these people sleep at night? It make things extremely difficult for people who really need the help.
100% agree, but that 3 year = only 18 months or less will do nothing to punish him and nothing to deter others, so no justice. If 18 months max is the fall for £1850 K benefits fraud and these individuals are wise to the system, they are going to try it! Being deported from the UK can be challenged and it can take years. The woman only got 18 months and so again = 9 months max. as there no claim on her and her husbands personal finance and belongings? All the money for less than 9 months in a lo-secure prison, with the memories of all the cruises and stashed cash, they kept the lot? Flash apartment and to small businesses, there must have been enough to reclaim!

@@laurat188 Who is that aimed at? Laura Walker was pointing out there is a catch the general public are not made aware of in claiming PIP. In most enhanced cases it is somewhat of a joke since enhanced means you are actually unable to do the vast majority of work. As for a Carer living over 50 mile away for someone on enhanced care it is impossible especially if you are self funding. You would spend more in fuel than you could make in an hour and that is before the fuel price hike.
These stories stagger me because in Australia - all the social welfare categories offered are linked to the one single agency. Centrelink, or Dept of Human Services encomasses Medicare, all welfare, co-linked to the tax office and even the State based social/public housing. You just cannot get away with anything without it being a highly sophistocated fraud. Everything is easily checked out.
Roxann your system works because all the various agencies share the personal information which does stop an amount of fraud from the outset. In the UK anyone attending A&E assumes the hospital department has instant access to their records. Reality is all the details you give the paramedics/ambulance crew gets added to their laptop which in theory transfers to A&E department on arrival. It gets transfered but not to any accessable database the hospital uses. Likewise A&E does not have access to your records in the hospital either and has to start from scratch to build a picture of why you are in A&E so you have to talk them through the entire event again. If the non sharing of vital information within the health service is this dire imagine what it is like to get healthcare info for Dept works and Pensions Tax and local authority support and even applying for disability benefit

There was a national ID card rejected by the public as an idea in the 1990's, but by default, we now have one, your medicare card, tax file number and your centrelink (welfare) numbers are all correlated and automatically in sync - and everything is cross checked straight away on any system. Public hosptials tho dont have any access to anything except your medicare records, but any application to any authority for anything is cross referenced. By keeping the individual Trusts the UK has, theyre open to Trust lotteries but also multi council and trust frauds.
I know some Lisa Mallah who claimed in total of £40000 on a rented house in Hampton, while having 3 properties: in Esher, In Guildford, and in Portugal. Two years ago she bought a flat in Malaga! At court she claimed she had learning disability and couldnt understand documents properly. When taken to court, she had paid the full sum back !!!! It is all available to read on internet. The stupid benefit system is to blame!

@@sunnidays I must admit I am puzzled but most these cases are quite old. They all keep referring to Disability Benefit when Personal Independence Payment has been going for well over a decade. Getting the former required little more than a doctors endorsement and declaration by the person applying. PIP replaced it due to the fraud level and the bar is much much higher to get PIP.
@@suburbiapheonix7960 well at least they have clamped down and are requiring more info, watching those shows it seemed quite easy for people to get benefits and housing assistance - here in states you need pages filled out by your doctor and unless you have cancer or another life altering or terminal illness you will 99% get denied for disability first time, then you file an amended claim with an attorney who specializes in disability laws, get all your updated medical records, including any tests you've had done, get doctor to fill out more papers, then attorney goes over it all and develops a case and you go before a judge who asks bunches of questions, can take months or year to get a hearing, depending where you live, how many judges for that area and how many claims waiting to be processed. All judges are required to read your case before your hearing and then they decide if you are approved or not. some judges started doing bench decisions about 15-20 years ago so person knows right then if approved or not, less paperwork in system - if approved it goes direct to social security who then send you letter telling what your benefits will be which are based on what your income has been as you pay social security taxes when you work. Those taxes go toward disability or your social security retirement benefits. They are not a great % of what you made in lifetime so in USA its advisable to have backup retirement income.
When a justice system gives out such low sentences to people who have done this kind of thing, it morcks normal people, it's like we are laughed at every time we pay our tax. It's a joke.

That's the elephant in the room. We have a housing shortage not because of selling them off. We have difficulties getting access to everything, the answer is simple. When Tony Blair opened the floodgates in 1997, that was the beginning of the slow death of the Uk, the results we can see now. Our own people are sidelined in our own country to prioritise giving everything to those, not from our country. But you can't say this or you'll be called a you know what.

As far as I know, having spoken to some Iraqis, the Home Office allocates groups to different towns, where the council has to take responsibility for their housing needs. “ human rights” top ethnic rights. They have a whole battalion of “ refugee” organisations in their corner.

I had a flat 15 years ago, which was accessed through being an autistic adult. After meeting my ex and wrongly giving up my flat to live with her, I was left homeless after we split. 8 years on I'm still suffering from that stupid decision.

They told me that illegal immigrants get to cut the line before an American. We have so many illegally here now. A teacher told me that out of 700 students…they now have 270 that don’t speak English & it costs so much money for interpreters. SMH!

Thorough checks, for all, British and foreign, and furthermore, officers should do a monthly check per borough on occupants and property. Reprocessing will make Homelessness escalate. Council housing is very rare in the uk today. Corporation is local authority House has all but gone. Most social housing is via housing association. These cost more to run than tradition council housing. Council tenants got a life assured tenancy. Basically the home remained there's for life and ant children living with them could take the tenancy on. But housing association stopped that. It also ended the right to buy. I believe if you live in 3 bed house and your the only one left the land lord is within there right to ask you to move to accommodation that meets your needs this then free up homes for families.
I'm sure they'd be proud of you mate . I was working and visited my elderly mother after each shift to see if she needed anything, she genuinely needed extra care (and got it). Rip mum x
sad story happened to me and my husband, we rented a flat in london, we didn't know it was a council house after 4 months paying our rent on time to a person ! 3 weeks ago council locked our lock we are homeless now we don't know what to do, council said that there are no places to send us ! We just running around whit no where to go 😢
Mrs. White (and her husband) should have had to sell everything they owned, including the houses, to repay every dime she stole, and then punitive fines as well. Both her and her husband should be left utterly destitute!!
Personally the prison time was not long enough in my opinion with the amount of time it took investigators to catch her out. Maybe the stripping of assets should had been in order.
I am horrified 🙈 i have been on a social housing waiting list for nearly 3 years without a single offer. I am permanently disabled from surgeries and treatments for cancer. I live in private rental accommodation abd whilst I do get housing benefit, I have to use a good portion of my disability benefit to make up the difference. I can not understand how that wretched Lisa White got top rate everything and help with care😲 i haf to endure the tribunal route to get any help and that was with a genuine illness and proof. Every single time it is up for renewal it is the same 🙄
The Council themselves are very racist on allocating property to honest ppl. I’ve been on housing list since 2009 with my 4 children then 2015 I became homeless I was told I would be in temporary accommodation for 3 yrs it’s now 7 yrs and I’m still in temporary. They put me an a accommodation which I’m struggling to pay the rent and the bills are not included. Despite many email telling them I can’t afford the property I was shaded.
Homeless people take priority on the basis; Dont speak English, English and a second language, Social problems (I.e druggies) and people just left prison. Ive work for HA's and had to sign up this african, been the country for 6 weeks and he gets a council flat. Or the Turkish family who I signed up - Once done they asked when can I buy they buy it? It is the way the world. If you left 100 gold bars outside your home, each worth 250k and left a note asking people to just take one; how many do you think would comply? Without a sense of community and nationhood, people quickly revert to fighting over lavatory paper.

@@KumaBean the housing officers enter the house and inspect. They also take photos. Private rentals do the same. Real estate agents inspect private rentals
@@KumaBean it's in your lease agreement and Australia has it in legal legislation so no one can take advantage. Also legally notified in writing 60 days notice for normal inspection but for other inspections depending on what it's for its 7days notification and for urgent repairs it's 24hrs or immediate for broken pipes. The tenants get sick of them there is no privacy. You also agree in lease agreement to keep place clean. You can be evicted so easily. Of cause it all has to be documented and legal If you rent they manage the property and the Tennant. That's Australia for you. Usual inspections 4 times a year.
If long term tenant and a good Tennant they will inspect 2 times a year. But that is after several years of 4 inspections a year. The landlord, real estate agent or housing and the Tennant have built up trusting relationship over time
I am not proud of this, but i used to do fraud to support my drug addiction, I have been clean for almost 4 years, I also went to prison rightfully, I am accountable for my actions. It amazes me how the fraud team does not know how people make doctored passports and letters. I would like to work with fraud companies to teach them how to spot and check documents, however, I don't think they would employ a person with a criminal record of fraud.

This lady robbed the benefit system of £150000 .When caught the y should have to repay all the money this includes confiscation of goods and any property they own to cover the DEPT
Bournemouth council should seriously look into their properties because a lot of the time in Bournemouth there are massive 3/4 bedroom houses with only 1 person living in there and even then housing benefit is paying their rent and no one is checking. Seriously- in those areas there never seems to be a housing shortage
If regulations made it compulsory to get permission from local authority when letting a property/room, it would prevent council tenants from doing fraud where they sublet a council property.
People scamming public housing have a lot to answer for, but public housing should be checking on properties at least once a year to stop people scamming. It’s the people on the waiting list my heart breaks for
