@@jamesadvincola9687 It's not for the sake of "death". There's no reason Pell should be alive or have lived. At all. The story isn't done obviously but I mean, come on. The issue isn't so much the "no deaths" as it is too many "fake out deaths". (To me at least), it ruins so many impactful moments. I could give a decent sized list of characters and arcs I would appreciate much more if there was either NO death in general, or no fake out ones.

Vivi goodbye scene is always good and I think the starw hats putting their arms up is them telling Vivi she is still an official member of the Straw Hats even though she isn't traveling with them. Also is Vivi did travel with them I think she would be the Straw Hats diplomat her status would make her respected in other nations she travel do and she will be good at negotiations because as a princess she would of learned these things. Also hoping the LA version on OP will actually kill of Pell as Pell should of die.

I love one piece but the only two things about one piece that really bothers me are: 1. People never die in one piece. Specially Pell, omg, still one of the biggest one for me. 2. Power development in one piece. I prefer hunter x hunter or even Naruto style, where they come up with something clever and the powers have thought and explanation behind them. Oda doesnt mind this kind of stuff much. You have to understand that One Piece is not as much about the fights and deaths as Hunter Hunter and Naruto. It is more about the history/journey and messages. Once you understand that and let it go of the fights and understand the powers, you can enjoy one piece better.

Goodbye Vivi-chwan. Hello Robin-CHWANNNNN. Pell is specifically a Peregrine Falcon. They are the fastest dive bombing birds on the planet and also the fastest animal on the planet in that situation. Pell let go of the bomb, dive bombed, and crashed in the desert and got hurt. Why would Oda specifically make him that exact bird?

I get your point about Vivi, I guess that's why Oda chose to let her stay, she wasn't meant to "add" value to the crew because- she was never a pirate, she was always meant to be a Queen. It's funny because- one of her major actions in the crew was to teach Luffy an important lesson back on Drum Island, as to what actions a leader should take. EDIT : regarding the- "twist" about Pell. The theory most people had at this time was that the decision to let him survive wasn't made by Oda but by their Editors instead. This happened around 2002, it's not hard to imagine that Shonen Jump, whose target audience is mainly teenage boys, would have more restrictive rules regarding death and dark subjects depicted in the stories they publish. It also happened around 9/11, so it could be seen in bad taste. But then again, as far as I know, Oda didn't clarify it one way or another, thus it's only conjecture.

That theory has been debunked. Pell's alive because Oda didn't want people to be sad about him dying when they were supposed to be happy. He said as much. It's one of the most universally unpopular decisions he's made throughout the run of the story, but he still made it.

The reason why pell survived is because the chapter for this episode was going to come out shortly after 9/11 attack, and they didn't want to be insensitive about someone dying with a bomb.

Plenty of people die in flashbacks. Theres not a single person that isnt upset about him being alive. Oda typically is 5-6 weeks ahead of when a chapter is officially released and the chapter where pell blew up was officially released in November of 2001. The girl with the bag was a filler character that you guys skipped.

I think this is omega cope. The next saga has plenty of characters that make heroic sacrifices similar to Pell and end up being alive. The simple explanation is that Oda doesn't like to kill characters outside of flashbacks. And if a character dies it needs to have a big impact on characters and the plot in the future. There is just really not much that changes if Pell dies. So he doesn't.

Well I'll be the first one you've seen that actually was happy that Pell didn't die. People don't value life as much as they should and self individualize the importance of their own feels in other people's stories. Not to say that's bad for fictional stories to put how you felt about it but i loved he lived because of what Pell ment to Vivi not to me. If I thought someone I cared and love for was dead and found out they hadn't I would be overjoyed finding out they were alive. And I love that for Vivi.

@wavemoon I disagree. Sure not much changes from our perspective of the story but it does cheapen his sacrifice. I would've been fine if we saw him throw throw the bomb up and then dive down when it explodes... but he was still holding onto it. since the falcon that he is is the fastest diving bird there is. Spoiler for the next arc below. Speaking of the next arc... 90% of humans that are struck by lightning survive. Thats a statistical fact. So, it's not surprising that people don't die in a fictional story where they can take much more damage than a real human.

@@Danielpooh I agree and when I first watched it I felt the exact same way. But that's because I didn't think about it back then. Re-watching it many years later, suspension of disbelief isn't as easy for me, so the contrast between the size of the explosion shown and Pell surviving kind of hits you in the face. I'm not gonna complain about it - it's just the way Oda does things, and I don't have to agree with him on everything. It does feel kind of weird, though, so when new people notice and comment on it, it's perfectly understandable as well.

Pell didn't die because:- 1. This manga chapter was released during 9/11 attack and initially Pell was going to die but due to 9/11 incident editor told him not to do this due to sensitive topic that time (esp. on the topic of terrorism and bombing). 2. Oda didn't like to kill his character since this was shonen manga and specifically for kids and he was not that perfect mangaka at that time. 3. Pell is basically falcon zoan bird which means the fastest bird so he might have dived so fast after bomb was bombed since he was able to pull up that bomb within such a limit amount of time. (Sorry for bad english)

@@tranatkikomi6873 yeah, I would've wished that they just watch the fillers of the anime reaction on their own time tho and if they think that that episode is kind of important or fun to watch post it as well, so that they can still have the information about the world and other characters. Some fillers do have some smidgen of information given that is actually canon so that they can follow more and lessen their confusion about some things. I'm still salty about the Naruto filler after Pain arc hahah😅. But anyway, still love their reactions this is just a tiny bit of complaint from mine huehue

Don't worry. I felt the same. Vivi isn't a good enough fighter to be one of the crew. And at most, you could say she's good in political issues (like back in drum island where she taught Luffy how to be a good leader to save nami), but that's about it. But still, she is undoubtedly one of the unofficial straw hats member like nobody else.

Vivi not joining and being an unofficial straw hat is much better. The Straw Hats all have a dream they are chasing. Alabasta is already Vivi's treasure. There is no dream for her to chase on the grandline. As for Pell's death.: The reality is Oda doesn't like to kill characters but still likes doing heroic sacrifice scenes. So unless it's a flashback scene it's best to assume that characters don't die. In the extremely rare instances where a character outside of a flashback does die Oda will make it so incredibly blatent that there is no room for interpretation left.

the thing about Vivi's farewell scene is that she is part of the crew. Every single one of the strawhats consider her part of the crew, it's just she is a nakama that is not in the ship with them but im pretty sure if they meet up again (dont asume they don't just speaking this way so I don't spoil you if they meet again or not) they will cheer up and party with her as a nakama. It's like when you see a friend that have move to another place after a few years and its like time haven't pass.

Oda could just say that since Pell has the peregrine falcon fruit which is the fastest animal on earth and it can reach crazy speeds during high-speed dives. He could have avoided the explosion while diving at full speed. Why would Oda give him that specific animal... Thats my headcanon tho 🤔.

The easiest piece of merch I ever bought from One Piece (among several other things) was a wrist band with a simple 'X' on it. Means almost absolutely nothing to those who don't know One Piece, specifically this Alabasta arc. But for those that know? That X means so, SO much more.

The thing with Jango and Fullbody is part of the manga's cover-stories. The episodes about Koby's meeting with Garp and Buggy's tiny adventure were adaptations of cover stories, but sadly the anime stopped adapting them after that. Backstory for side characters will often be told through the side stories so it's too bad the anime doesn't adapt more of them.

yes!! finally i found someone saying something too! they are less of a scam and more of a morally brankrupt company that doesnt care what happens to your very sensitive health data and just sells it to advertisers. also a lot of actual therapists have spoken about how horrible they are for people employed by them. and i guess theres no quality control for the acutal therapy youre getting. its a bit like uber but for therapy, which is a horrible combination quite frankly.

Seeing you two get instantly emotional at the X and raising their arms, the fact that it clicked isntantly was beautiful and you two will find sooo SOOOO MANY more beautiful moments like those. This is why small details are so important in this anime. I don't know how much you two knw the first opening, but it triggers emotions in the future, and also the first ending, memories(they played it here at the end 16:20 ), at multiple parts play a big role in making a scene way more beautiful, emotional, and a throwback about the beauty of one piece, and i am talking about hundreds and hundreds and i mean hundreds of episodes in the future. oh man I am so excited to yall enjoy this :D

Fellows I love your reactions and observations, so keep this in mind.... But I have to say: You are being poorly guided by your patreons. You see... This is what happens when you skip the fillers. Yes, those characters were important at the fillers. Other point, yes Pell is alive and the reason why is becuse of his devil fruit. I will not spoil for you in details but you will understand this zoan fruit type characteristics later due in the strory course. Other point, Jango has a manga cover story arc that anime did not showed like it did with Koby and Helmeppo whereabouts and Little Buggy Adventure... So you lost that too! THat's why I'm asking who are guiding you through this anime???

its cause no one wants to see the fillers precisely because they are NOT important ll...and especially in this arc, the fillers just stretch the whole desert part of alabasta into an unbearable length which makes the pacing seem horrible, as if we were already in dressrosa.....

@@jannecapelle_art Sorry disagree.... It's just unbearable to manga pristine lovers who would die with anxiety. And quite contrary the fillers turns the pacing much better. In this case by several reasons: because brings the draught drama more familiar with the volutionary cause; give us more sense of the Alabasta folk; turn Ace more close to Luffy and the strawhats (and gives more meaning to his Blackbeard hunting); brings more light to the crew context when Nami talks to Vivi about how they count with each other. (I will talk about Dressrosa later, when I drop the manga dying of boredom, and the anime transform that parts in pure comic relief (Toei amazing work).

anyway .. Easy Explanation .. LOGICALLY using the Show's Logic ??? One Piece characters are extremely Durable , and the ZOAN FRUIT especially is an addition to Durability ... BUT Other than Logic Explanation ? This happened during the 9/11 Incident , so they had to pull that death
