Super overgrown yard. Customer fired me then sends me a text. Grass is not always greener on the other side. Enjoy! Ninja Email: sgninjas@gmail.com Ninja Gear: www.sgninjas.com
Just be a stand up guy and take her on as a new customer at the same price. You just never know what her circumstances where/are. Never forget your own circumstances can change in the blink of an eye. Be safe out there.
I would pick the yard back up and keep rolling! Price would change more than likely due to changing times, gas isn't cheap....working with the general public you have to be able to adapt on the fly and keep going! Remember she reached out to you and that was a humble act on her part!
Don't keep the price she was getting, raise it know your worth. I've had customers cancel on me because they found someone cheaper and months later they call me asking if I can do it, and I say "of course but my prices have gone up so instead of $60 it will be $80, let me know so I can coordinate the route, thank you "
I have people always try to tell me “well I can get so and so to do it $10 cheaper” if that’s the case then why would you call anybody else. I simple tell them I can’t do it for anything else than my original price and if I were them I would call the other person back. I’m not going out in this humid and hot Houston weather for anything under my worth.
I know all about reliable equipment. My first year full time and my truck has broken down twice and the mower has broken down twice. Luckily I have a Yukon to use in place of the truck. I have a crappy lawn tractor as a very emergency backup mower, but I haven’t had to use it yet. Looking to buy a new zero turn here as soon as I can
it is good that you have a place to vent, and talk to people that can give you their thoughts ... as a good buisness man you take all the info you can get to help you make a good decision...
Honestly I would have to agree with a slight cost increase and take her lawn on . With the cost of fuel prices these days I would be trying get customers that all live in the same area as much as possible...
Down here in Florida they are always looking for a cheaper price. But they always call back asking can you please do my lawn again. And they will always be glad to pay the higher price because you are dependable. and a nice tip at the end of the year. GOD BLESS BROTHER
Hi Nick! Like your channel! I'm a new subscriber... Here's my opinion on the lady that wants to re-hire you: If she paid you on time, and you didn't have any problems with her paying, or expecting you to do extra things for free, I'd take her back. You could use this experience to get her to sign a contract for the season. If I was mowing full time (I'm a part timer), I'd have to do annual contracts. But that's just me... I'm sure she was too embarrassed to say, "hey Nick, I made a huge mistake! I love your service, but one of my neighbor's kid wanted to mow my lawn, to make money for college, and bla bla bla...." But you can't hold that against her. You never know what's going on in people's lives. The customers that I have had this type of experience with have many times ended up being some of my best customers. Sincerely! So, my opinion is, don't go up on your price on her (unless you had her under priced to begin with, then go up on her, by all means!), just use this as leverage to get her to sign an annual contract with you. It won't hold up in court or anything like that! And you wouldn't expect it to... But it's a written agreement between you and her. And that way she understands that she's comitting herself to you for this mowing season.
HEY buddy, just watching your channel for the 1st time because I have never seen it before pulled up on my home screen, and you sound pretty COOL so I'm subscribing to the channel, looking forward to more of your videos, , I'm in Missouri, BE SAFE, and have a Great Day, PEACE ✌️ until next time 😎🤑
I would take her back as it's just down the road from your other acct. Of course raise the price as everything is more expensive this season. I hate leaving money on the table that makes "cents" bc of my pride. But I have learned that it's actually a compliment to get called back to a job you once had. There's a reason they called you back.
No problem. Pick her back up. It's just business. The more clients you have that live close to each other has to be beneficial. Less driving time right?!??
Come up with a season price if she pays out front she get a discount. If she wants weekly or bi-weekly Lawn Service. Then you charge what you need to charge
Hey nick if you take her back price definitely has to go up, we need loyalty and dependability from our customers like they want from us. We not just little Johnny down the block making extra fuel/play money for the weekend, we providing for a family and paying real bills!
My policy is to raise her mowing price , I refuse to be a doormat , she called you back cause of your knowledge , updated equipment and professionalism. Best of luck nick , ✌️
I have noticed in most videos most front yards are ok before you take care of them, but the way they leave their back yard is unbelievable. I lived in the country for over 30 years. I mean real country, dirt road and all. NEVER would I let my yard look like the ones I have seen on your videos. I mowed and trimmed my yard every Thursday. Front and back
I would expect the first cut to get that yard in shape be charged a premium price ....... and then once it is at a decent height, less for regular maintenance cuts. But, no way would I take on that yard for the first cut and not charge extra.
Hi! New subscriber here and just found your channel. Whimsical commentary, great content and super results. About the drop and want you back: sometimes a home improvement or emergency repair require budget adjustments with what to let go and do cheaper. Also I assume it was pandemic during the shutdown, so maybe the other mover needed extra work due to job lay off, job loss, or job change and your customer was helping a neighbor. Give the guy credit for trying to hustle to feed his family. I'm sure the customer knew you would replace the loss too and figured it would be tough to get back on schedule when she could afford you again. She did leave you a lovely message which means you could probably have a professional chat in the interest of improving customer service and your business growth with her and hear 'the rest of the story' (which you may have already discovered in a future video I will try to catch next). Maybe she felt you should have reached out sooner, too. Oh well, looks like you have a great business and I wish you blessed success!
If you can help her out, do it! A paying customer is always good. Good input on upgrading equipment. Buy different types of mowers. Back up. If you upgrade to bigger deck though would you reduce price?? My dad and I were debating on that and I’d decided I would keep same price as I charge by job
Hey Nick it's Rocco work is work as long as they have a check for you I say cut it with the up charge so please keep them coming there appreciated thanks your friend Rocco from Connecticut
LOYALTY is key... if you have space and she’ll pay the new price I’d give a second chance but if you don’t have the room it she don’t wanna pay up the SORRY BOUTCHA GIRLIE 🤣🤣 #LoyaltyIsKey
You know I'm not a business. You said it, if you're reliable you will mow it for. Just let her know that the price is going up. Inflation sucks, but you have to keep your equipment in working conditions. If you're reliable they will call.
Do it because that's what you do 😅 I have customers that give me a raise This one customer pays me $45 on a &40 yard and free apples and granola lolz 😂
If the job is in a convenient location and you’re already servicing someone near her you up the price slightly and take her back. Multiple jobs that a close are how you make more profit as you’re not really travelling. Obviously your call, she could do it again however rage has now seen the grass isn’t greener with someone else so to speak
Nick I was brought up to respect others like I won't them to respect me. When that person didn't even let you know she seek out another lawn cutter that it self is grounds to not cut her yard. I say you have enough yards that loosing hers will not hurt you.
You're a business man right? Not taking back an easy paying customer for no reason that's right near other jobsites would be silly. The main thing that I learned doing this business is that finding jobs next door to each other is the key to making money. Driving all over town is a waste of time and gas. It'd be very different if you had past payment issues or if she was just a pain in the butt to deal with.
At first I thought maybe they were just trying to help a neighbor/friend out...but then I realized if they were that good of people they would have called you and let you know. I would have raised the price. Now to an even more serious matter...is the equipment really talking back to you? 🤣😝
I've done lawn work 27 yrs and customers like that I tell them to find another mowing service I don't do fill ins has to be all summer no more free estimates over 5 mile radius since gas prices are going up.
I just had one last week I put up and they had someone else mowing so I just kept on going that's not the first time with them next time they call I am up from $40 to $50 then they want call me anymore if I do I am going to put them on a sign contract for weekly and not biweekly like before
Yes take her back also if she watches your videos she will see you were talking about her money is good if you charge more good luck man love your videos
Nick, regardless of the situation, when a customer wants you back even if you are not the cheapest around speaks volumes of your professionalism, attention to detail and quality of work. They always say the best advertisement is word of mouth. BTW I would increase the price too.
It Depends if I would take them back or not. I would look at how much I was making on that lawn and how many lawns do I have around her and was she consistent with payments.
Prices in my eyes also depends on the person's experience in this trade. I've been doing this my whole career (21 years). So I charge alot lol where as someone doing it a couple years will only charge half of what I do per hour
She contact you, on that day: Write an estimate as to what you want to manage her lawn; specify how often and when payment is to be due. Do no favors in this estimate. She will go to a competitor, if they offer better, she is gone. But she will be back if they fail. Strictly business - You are selling reliability.
Add her back with a firm up price. As for the overgrown yard I just did one from a photo that a new Cliant sent me and I just gave a price over the phone $60 when I went to the neighbourhood after physically examining the yard I knew I made a huge mistake. I should have charged at least $300 - $400 I ended up doing it for $80 the neighbor hired me as well for regular maintenance, so it turned out okay. The yard that you did if it was here in Canada 🇨🇦 I would charge $700 easy for the back and front.
I think when you get to a point where you are treating customers like they need you… you’ve lost sight of who the boss really is and who actually pays your salary… she dropped you with no notice i get it… but sounds like you are in your feelings a bit. You already stated your prices are high… and now you want to raise your already high prices to even higher… 😂 . who knows what the issue could be. As a “good” business owner that provides a service it’s up to you to figure out what is going on… if you care. And by finding out what’s going on, i don’t mean brow beating the lady for not using you for a couple weeks. What if every place you did business with punished you because you chose to shop around or couldn’t afford their prices on any given day and had to go elsewhere. Take her back and just explain your position with starting and stopping as it relates to scheduling. She obviously saw the error in her ways negative she contacted you back… your work obviously speaks for itself so get over it and get to the money…
Totally agree with you on this one... His feelings were hurt and seems to want to give her a lesson that she does not deserve. I also have a seasonal business (not landscaping or lawn care) and know that feeling where I started not caring because of customers being ornery. Did a reality check and realized everyone working with customers has to deal with a lot of crap and keep smiling. I don't agree that the customer is always right, but I also do accommodate them and explain why I did it a different way. Her email was pleasant enough, so I would talk to her again and fit her job in at regular prices. Being fair is important in a business. I was pressured a lot during my closed time during Covid because people wanted to come in a month before I was to open again. I denied them the use of my business and explained I couldn't say no to others living here and yes to them. Everyone gets treated the same. They fortunately understood.
Things have changed since the pandemic and prices are sky high started out with food , gas prices has gone up and am sure someday like here in the 🇺🇸 our administration not like the past president he had our country runing in the right direction now its gone. Sorry for the politics. Keep up the good work
funny on how majority of these videos i have experienced .. as far as customers that dont like my services very rarely in 20 yrs have a walked away from but last year 2021 i did for a few .. sadly .. everyone wants things done for 20 .. and eventually they do find that company and there not happy ... heard that over 20x last year .. depends on their loyalty and agreement to your pricing rather then have to have a contract setup ... the majority of my issues are convincing customers my pricing is worth how i make your property look at the end ... and the more services you ask of me the more you get to save in the bank ... and i also do discount referrals that also works well ..
I would take her back but I would address it before you do. Nothing impractical or mean just a, “why did you ghost me before?” Lol I’m sure her reasoning is understandable or she just found a guy and thought it wouldn’t be a big deal if she didn’t tell you. Everyone had their own way of going about things. If she was never rude about any of it, I wouldn’t bother with overthinking it. Just get a small explanation out of her, pick her back up, and move on. There’s money to be had Ninja!
I give my customers once chance to screw up like that. I would also charge extra for that overgrown lawn. She sounds like the type of person that will expect you to triple cut her lawn at regular price. Good luck
You never know what someone was going through at that time in their life. I believe in second chances. Take her back but the price has to change, it's been 2 seasons and the price of everything else has changed.
I've had two customers who had someone take over the yard that I was doing without saying anything to me and I took it personally to the point where I told each one of them when asked to come back...Hell no!! If they don't have respect for me to at least tell me why and leave me wondering then screw them!
That would depend if I needed/ wanted the yards. No sense in holding a grudge because they wanted to explore their options. Both have a choice as to who they want to do business with.
Absolutely. There comes a point where you have to know your value. She will drop again without notice if she finds someone to do it cheaper. Zero loyalty.
I used to mow at a rate of 5 acres for about $30... it all works out in the end and it keeps me alive. Do it cheap enough and don’t worry about them hiring anyone else
Nick, I was kind of in that predictable situation. A friend of mine hired me 4 yrs ago to service his yard and has been very happy, well this year he started having his 13 yr old son cut the yard which I expected it. He called me Tuesday and said there old mower died and asked if I could mow it before the rain came in Thursday, I agreed That I could fit it in and knocked it out Wednesday. I have always liked there yard but I am waiting for a new mower to show up again and I will be let go again, I get it but my price will be raised again or will just drop it even though we are good friends. It will depend on how I feel that day.
She obviously knows who’s does better and wants you back, I’d talk with her and get a schedule set up and treat her like any other customer. Good customer service goes a long ways. Maybe she’ll get you referrals to others
