Multiple dashcam videos show two vehicles involved in a road rage incident that happened on a Dallas highway.
A little before 1:45 p.m. on March 1, 2024, a driver in Dallas captured video of a truck with a flatbed trailer and SUV involved in road rage on an overpass between I-35E and I-635. The driver shared it on his Instagram account, @sookmiyagi. The driver of the truck also shared his dashcam video of the incident.
In part of the dashcam video, the SUV driver appears to be brake-checking in front of the truck and trying to keep the truck driver from getting around him.
When the truck drives into the left lane trying to get around the SUV, the SUV then veers to the left as well and crashes into the truck. As the truck continues to drive forward, the flatbed trailer rips the bumper off the SUV before driving away.
After these videos were posted, the driver of the SUV reached out to WFAA through social media and shared video of what appears to be what happened before the videos that went viral.
In that video, the truck driver looks to be changing from the left lane to the right lane without leaving enough room between the SUV driver and the truck in front of him. The truck's trailer appears to clip the left side of the SUV based on the shaking of the vehicle's dashcam video.
The SUV then drives into the left lane, trying to get around the truck. However, the truck driver moves into the left lane as well, driving past the left edge of the lane and leaving very little room between the SUV and the edge of the highway.
This looks to be what led to the dashcam video initially posted to Instagram.

**What Actually Happened *** The driver of the SUV Robert Johnson Jr. edited the video to leave out the previous two minutes, where he was upset that the truck didn't allow him over. The black truck was traveling approximately 5 miles over the speed limit but was slower than most of the flow of traffic. It appears from witness testimony that the trucks spend is what insiteded the SUV driver and that the driver of the SUV was in the far right lane when possible realizing it was an exit only lane. Suv attempted to get over, and the truck either didn't see Robert or purposely didn't allow the SUV over this took place for approximately a 1/4 mile prior to entering on-ramp. The SUV driver appeared to try and take out his frustration on the black truck. Witnesses say Robert struck the trailer lightly once, possibly twice in what seemed to be an attempt to either file a bogus insurance claim for damages or he was simply out of control in his anger. The driver of the truck was on the phone with 911, and dispatch advised him to "Not Stop" and to try and keep the SUV at a safe distance behind him. This is where Robert chose to start sharing his video clip as the black truck is attempting to keep him at bay. All of this happening while on a dangerous overpass with no breakdown lane and only a small shoulder. This seemed to anger Robert Johnson even more. The already raging driver then continues to ram the truck repeatedly. The driver of the truck remained calm and followed the 911 communicationd operators direcions of not stopping until police could find him. The truck driver was not certain if the car was still in chase and stayed on the phone with dispatch. Police never arrived to the truck by the time it reached the city limit. At that time the truck driver was advised to continue driving home and file a report on the following Monday. Robert Johnson seemed to exit Marsh Lane, pulling into a Sams parking lot where he played victim to responding officers. Robert Johnson Jr. claimed the truck driver randomly hit him for no apparent reason. Robert Johnsom then doubled down claiming victim again to WFAA providing only a small clip of his dashcam insinuating the driver of the truck was at fault. Last reported, Dallas PD was filing assault charges on the SUV driver, but edited video may force a civil case in lieu of a criminal case. Acquaintances of Robert Johnson Jr. claim he has a long history with anger control and has had several incidents of road rage.

I give folks who are poor drivers a lot of space. There are a lot of poor drivers out there. Since the advent of smart phones. Driving takes a back seat to driving correctly. I don’t think the lane change is an issue, especially if you are approaching a fork and you need to check to be sure you’re in the right lane. If the truck driver was getting impatient about that and nothing else then I’ve got a lot more sympathy with the SUV driver. Plus the truck driver nearly rear ended a real truck in the process not to mention driving dangerously. The truck driver should definitely be banned, while the SUV driver also needs an insurance premium.

The truck with the trailer cut between the car and the dump truck and it appears like the trailer bumped the car….but even if it didn’t…the car then was just trying to pass and the truck with the trailer comes over into the cars area and lane…almost hitting the car…so the car moves further left to get out of the path of the truck that’s intentionally trying to hit him and the truck with the trailer tries to move into that further left lane to hit the car….but the car is able to get past the truck and it is then that the car tries to block off the truck with the trailer by riding in the middle and then hits the truck as it tries to pass because that’s exactly what the truck was trying to do to it. Did you not watch the whole video? How did you not see the truck with trailer cutting off the car while getting in behind the dump truck? How did you not see that same truck try to hit the car as it tried to pass by coming into 2 lanes the car was in? That truck had just moved to the right lane…in behind the dump truck….then a few seconds later is moving into the left lane and the left left lane trying to hit the car on purpose and it might have hit the back side of the car but we can’t see that from the dash cam view…..but it did look like the trailer bumped the front side of the car as it cut off the car to get behind the dump truck initially. Edit…yes I watched again and the truck trailer bumped the front of the car as it cut off the car to get behind the dump truck….you can see the bump happen and the car shook….so the truck intentionally cut in front of the other knowing his trailer would hit the other.

I try to be extra careful and courteous even if someone wrongs me on the road. Driven truck over 2 million miles in my career w/o any at fault accidents. I had one accident but the other guy fell asleep and hit me with no way for me to avoid it. People have 2nd amendments in their cars nowadays and that's an easy way to get hurt really badly or worse. Clear hit and run by the pickup. The SUV driver was probably trying to get them to stop or to at least read the HIDDEN License Plate. People with trailers should be forced by law to have the exact same license plate as the vehicle towing it on the trailer or else get a $5,000 ticket for each offense.

That’s got to be one of the most ignorant statements in a while, city slickers have no clue how rural people have one pickup (with pistols, shotguns, and AR’s inside) and multiple trailers, and loan them to friends or neighbors when needed.

The Dallas Police Department said there is an ongoing investigation into this incident as it is being investigated as a car accident. The preliminary investigation determined that an SUV was traveling eastbound on the 2800 LBJ freeway. The SUV attempted to change lanes and cut off a pickup truck, according to police. The pickup truck then drove around the SUV and hit the SUV...

Dallas experienced rapid growth without adequate infrastructure development. Highways are consistently congested with reckless drivers. It's imperative to install cameras and implement automation to remove dangerous drivers from the roads. Ensuring the safety of our family members is paramount. Both drivers should have been in jail for endangering others in the middle of high-speed highway.

I do it all the time. Unfortunately, they don't just stick to the highways. I consider myself a fast (ish) driver, and I get passed like I am going 30 mph. Regularly - on city streets. In DFW, if you aren't going at least 90 mph, then you better move to the right. That's why I take the frontage/access roads.

Looks like the truck driver with the trailer hit the dashcam vehicle with his trailer as he pulled in ahead of him (just after the 0:30 mark) Then instead of stopping (he may not have realized he hit him) he kept driving, and the dashcam vehicle tried to get in front to stop him, but the truck/trailer driver probably took offense because he didn't realize why.
